Global message delivery
editHi Mark,
I'm glad that you seem to have found the suggestion in my January 9 email useful. But could I suggest to consider the following points when you use the tool next time:
- Please review the text of the message carefully before sending it out - there is a typo in the headline ("Announcing Wikipedia 1.19 beta" instead of "Announcing MediaWiki 1.19 beta") and at the moment there is no easy way to correct it on the >570 village pumps where the bot is currently posting this.
- Instead of signing this as the bot itself ("Global message delivery 00:05, 15 January 2012 (UTC)"), it has been good practice to sign with the Meta account of the user who authored the message - or at least give another point of contact for replies to the message itself. (People cannot be expected to navigate the Global Message Delivery bot operation pages to finally retrieve message author from the revision history of the "Spam" page.)
- Also, could I suggest that you include a link to the distribution list as it was done in previous messages, e.g. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Br%C3%BCnnele#Open_Call_for_2012_Wikimedia_Fellowship_Applicants : "(Wrong page? Fix here.)" The reason is the distribution list inevitably contains some outdated or wrong links, and users get sometimes (justifiably) annoyed when we are bombarding the wrong local page with global messages, so we should provide them with an opportunity to fix it. The last time the list received several useful corrections and additions.
I'm happy to answer any further questions you might have.
Regards, Tbayer (WMF) 02:01, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
- Tbayer has already said what I came here for. :-) The signature is the main point IMHO (sisterprojects are accustomed to be overlooked in favour of Wikipedia...). Nemo 12:55, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
- PS:
- Here someone pointed out another typo in the message.
- You probably already noticed this, but just in case: The bot has stalled during the run, which unfortunately means that many projects on the lists (e.g. Polish Wikipedia, Meta) have not been notified yet. The same happened to me in two recent deliveries; the bot's owner was very helpful in sorting it out but it took a certain amount of time (which I myself don't have right now). The bot checks if a message with the same ID is already on the page that it wants to post on, so it is possible to just restart the run after fixing the point where it broke.
- Regards, Tbayer (WMF) 13:45, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
Please fill out our brief Participation Support Program survey
editHello, the Wikimedia Foundation would like your feedback on the Participation Support Program! We have created a brief survey to help us better understand your experience participating in the program and how we can improve for the future. You are being selected to participate in our survey because you submitted or commented on Participation Support requests in the past.
Click here to be taken to the survey site.
The survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete. We really appreciate your feedback! And we hope to see you in the Participation Support Program again soon.
Happy editing,

Help test better mass message delivery
editHi. You're being contacted as you've previously used global message delivery (or its English Wikipedia counterpart). It doesn't feel so great to be spammed, does it? ;-)
For the past few months, Legoktm has built a replacement to the current message delivery system called MassMessage. MassMessage uses a proper user interface form (no more editing a /Spam subpage), works faster (it can complete a large delivery in minutes), and no longer requires being on an access list (any local administrator can use it). In addition, many tiny annoyances with the old system have been addressed. It's a real improvement! :-)
You can test out MassMessage here: testwiki:Special:MassMessage. The biggest difference you'll likely notice is that any input list must use a new {{#target:}}
parser function. For example, {{#target:User talk:Jimbo Wales}}
or {{#target:User talk:Jimbo Wales|test2.wikipedia.org}}
. For detailed instructions, check out mw:Help:Extension:MassMessage.
If you find any bugs, have suggestions for additional features, or have any other feedback, drop a note at m:Talk:MassMessage. Thanks for spamming! --MZMcBride (talk) 05:25, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
Beginning of MassMessage, end of EdwardsBot
editHi. You're being contacted as you're listed as an EdwardsBot user.
MassMessage has been deployed to all Wikimedia wikis. For help using the new tool, please check out its help page or drop a note on Meta-Wiki.
With over 400,000 edits to Wikimedia wikis, EdwardsBot has served us well; however EdwardsBot will no longer perform local or global message delivery after December 31, 2013.
A huge thanks to Legoktm, Reedy, Aaron Schulz and everyone else who helped to get MassMessage deployed. --MZMcBride (talk) 02:36, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
Invitation
editHello, MarkAHershberger,
I am contacting you because you have left feedback about VisualEditor at pages like mw:VisualEditor/Feedback in the past. The Editing team is now asking for your help with VisualEditor. Please tell them what they need to change to make VisualEditor work well for you. The team has a list of top-priority problems, but they also want to hear about small problems. These problems may make editing less fun, take too much of your time, or be as annoying as a paper cut. The Editing team wants to hear about and try to fix these small things, too.
You can share your thoughts by clicking this link. You may respond to this quick, simple, anonymous survey in your own language. If you take the survey, then you agree your responses may be used in accordance with these terms. This survey is powered by Qualtrics and their use of your information is governed by their privacy policy.
More information (including a translatable list of the questions) is posted on wiki at mw:VisualEditor/Survey 2015. If you have questions, or prefer to respond on-wiki, then please leave a message on the survey's talk page.
Thank you, Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 17:39, 3 April 2015 (UTC)
Welcome to the IEG Committee
editHi MarkAHershberger.
Thanks for signing up to join the Individual Engagement Grants Committee! It is my pleasure to confirm your membership. We've got a lot to accomplish together, particularly during the next few months, and it will be awesome to have your help.
To make your membership official, please do 2 things as soon as possible (ideally by Sunday September 20th):
- Introduce yourself in the IdeaLab.
- Send your email address and preferred username to IEGrants wikimedia.org, so that we can subscribe you to the committee mailing list and get you setup on the committee's internal wiki.
Then there are 3 first tasks for active committee members to start on right away:
- Read the information in the Committee Workroom (your committee organizing hub on meta), beginning with the getting started guide for new members.
- Join at least one working group.
- Start giving feedback on open ideas, drafts and proposals! Asking questions to gather information you’ll need to make a recommendation helps prospective grantees think their projects all the way through, and will give us more great proposals to choose from.
Our formal review of proposals starts on October 2nd. WMF staff will be posting information about scoring and selection of proposals on the committee mailing list and in the Workroom soon, so please keep an eye there!
Thanks again for joining us to help make impactful IEGrants :)

- @MarkAHershberger: Glad to have you join the IEG Committee! May I ask you to send your email address and preferred username to me directly at mjohnson wikimedia.org? There are some technical issues arising with IEGrants wikimedia.org and so I haven't received notification from you. I'm looking forward to working with you! Cheers, --Marti (WMF) (talk) 17:11, 22 September 2015 (UTC)

What future IdeaLab campaigns would you like to see?
editHi there,
I’m Jethro, and I’m seeking your help in deciding topics for new IdeaLab campaigns that could be run starting next year. These campaigns aim to bring in proposals and solutions from communities that address a need or problem in Wikimedia projects. I'm interested in hearing your preferences and ideas for campaign topics!
Here’s how to participate:
- Learn more about this consultation
- Vote on and submit new campaign topics in the AllOurIdeas Survey
- Discuss campaign topics and ask questions on the IdeaLab talk page
Take care,
I JethroBT (WMF), Community Resources, Wikimedia Foundation. 03:34, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
Future IdeaLab Campaigns results
editLast December, I invited you to help determine future ideaLab campaigns by submitting and voting on different possible topics. I'm happy to announce the results of your participation, and encourage you to review them and our next steps for implementing those campaigns this year. Thank you to everyone who volunteered time to participate and submit ideas.
With great thanks,
I JethroBT (WMF), Community Resources, Wikimedia Foundation. 23:56, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

Welcome to the Project Grants Committee
editHi MarkAHershberger,
Thanks for signing up to join the Project Grants Committee! It is my pleasure to confirm your membership. We've got a lot to accomplish together, particularly during the next 2 months, and it will be awesome to have your help. Here is how to get started!
To make your membership official, please email mjohnson wikimedia · org by Sunday, August 14, and include the following three pieces of information:
- Your preferred email address for the committee mailing list
- Your preferred username for the committee's scoring tool
- Indicate all of the times from this list that would work for you to participate in a Committee Orientation:
- if none of the above times work for you, please provide at least two times that would work for you (be sure to indicate the date and the time zone)
Then, there are 2 first tasks for active committee members to start on right away:
- Read the information in the Committee Workroom (your committee organizing hub on meta), beginning with the getting started guide for new members.
- Start giving feedback on open proposals. Ask questions or make suggestions on the proposal talk pages to gather information you’ll need to make a recommendation. Your input helps prospective grantees think their projects all the way through and helps other committee members with their own review. The more you can support applicants now, the stronger the proposals we'll have to choose from.
The general calendar for this round is as follows:
Round 1 2016 schedule
Open call: 1 July – 2 August
Proposal deadline: 2 August
Staff eligibility review: 3–9 August
Community review: 10–23 August
Committee review: 24 August – 6 September
Grantees announced: 7 October
Grants disbursed: October
Our formal review of proposals starts on August 24. WMF staff will be posting information about scoring and selection of proposals on the committee mailing list, so please keep an eye there!
Thanks again for joining us to help make impactful Project Grants! :-)
The 2021 Community Wishlist Survey is now open! This survey is the process where communities decide what the Community Tech team should work on over the next year. We encourage everyone to submit proposals until the deadline on 30 November, or comment on other proposals to help make them better. The communities will vote on the proposals between 8 December and 21 December.
The Community Tech team is focused on tools for experienced Wikimedia editors. You can write proposals in any language, and we will translate them for you. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing your proposals!
18:26, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
We invite all registered users to vote on the 2021 Community Wishlist Survey. You can vote from now until 21 December for as many different wishes as you want.
In the Survey, wishes for new and improved tools for experienced editors are collected. After the voting, we will do our best to grant your wishes. We will start with the most popular ones.
We, the Community Tech, are one of the Wikimedia Foundation teams. We create and improve editing and wiki moderation tools. What we work on is decided based on results of the Community Wishlist Survey. Once a year, you can submit wishes. After two weeks, you can vote on the ones that you're most interested in. Next, we choose wishes from the survey to work on. Some of the wishes may be granted by volunteer developers or other teams.
We are waiting for your votes. Thank you!
