Wikimedia-specific pages on MediaWiki.org
editHi, why did you create mw:Extension:FileImporter/Data on MediaWiki.org? Wikimedia-specific content doesn't belong there. Configuration about Wikimedia wikis is normally hosted here on Meta-Wiki if not on the wiki themselves, see e.g. Huggle/Config and friends. Nemo 19:19, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
- Hi, our thought was to put it next to the extensions page, since it belongs to that extension. But after we though about it again we think you are right. It's not that easy to move them now, but we put it on our Todo-List. -- Michael Schönitzer (WMDE) (talk) 17:44, 17 January 2019 (UTC)
Tech News
editHi! You added an item to Tech News, but I failed to properly mark it for translation. Since most of the time had already passed when I realised this and it was a piece of future news, I'm moving it to Tech/News/2019/30 to ensure people have translate the item, so it'll go out in a week rather than tomorrow. /Johan (WMF) (talk) 21:01, 14 July 2019 (UTC)
- My apologies, entirely my fault. /Johan (WMF) (talk) 21:02, 14 July 2019 (UTC)
User:Max Klemm (WMDE)/ FileImporter Announcement
editHi! When marking User:Max Klemm (WMDE)/ FileImporter Announcement for translation, FuzzyBot unfortunately picked up an outdated version (again), which resulted in no update to translations. Please go to https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:PageTranslation/User:Max_Klemm_(WMDE)/_FileImporter_Announcement&do=mark and press the button once more; this should make FuzzyBot find the right version. (Please note that even though the page’s current version is marked for translation, no dummy edit is needed since a change to the extension a few weeks ago.) Thanks in advance! —Tacsipacsi (talk) 17:00, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
- I did so – but don't understand for what reason. The problem earlier today was, that the <section/> tags where not present in the 'en' subpage and therefore Module:Assemble multilingual message did not work. That was fixed with marking it for translation this evening. Hope it now still works… -- Michael Schönitzer (WMDE) (talk) 18:48, 4 August 2020 (UTC)
- Probably I looked at the wrong diff, and thought that the whitespace change now finally deployed was an important thing. The background of this issue is that FuzzyBot often updates translated versions with outdated text (but I never came across with a case where the update would actually have deployed older version than was before, only not newer, so the
<section>
tags won’t just go away unless removed from the source page again). —Tacsipacsi (talk) 19:24, 4 August 2020 (UTC)

Reference previews
editHello, I have got one question. I wanna say something to: "You can see reference previews. This shows a preview of the footnote when you hover over it. This has been a beta feature. It will move out of beta and be enabled by default. There will be an option not to use it. The developers are looking for small or medium-sized wikis to be the first ones. You can let them know if your wiki is interested," from Tech News. Please try this article at cswiki. I think, that at cswiki we have Reference previews. Or is that something different? --Patriccck (talk) 09:14, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
- Hi @Patriccck: There is a community-written gadget "RefTooltips" that does also show reference previews. Some wikis including cswiki have this gadgets already enabled by default. The new improvement was built as a possible replacement that should be more robust in the long term, it will however be up to the communities of the wikis to decide whether the new version should replace the old. The upcoming deployment will give logged in users the option to choose. If the gadget is enabled the user will not show the popup of our extension but only the old popup, if the user however disables the gadget and has page previews enabled, they will also see the reference previews by the popup-extension. It will be up to the cswiki-community to decide if the gadget will continue to be on by default or if it will be replaced by the new extensions. Is cswiki interested to be among the first wikis to get the new extension as an optional feature? -- Michael Schönitzer (WMDE) (talk) 14:52, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for reply. Could you please start discussion about that here like a developer? I think, that cswiki could be interested (we usually like new functions). Patriccck (talk) 16:30, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
