Would Wikibase Live Session be archived?

edit

Hello Mohammed, thanks for the ping on the Wikibase Live Session for October 1. The topic is extremely intriguing, but since my timezone is UTC+9, it would not be easy for me to watch the event in real time. Would the discussion be archived in some way so that I can see it later? 朝彦 | Asahiko (talk) 01:52, 30 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi 朝彦: We do not plan to record the session on video, but notes will be taken here. -Mohammed Sadat (WMDE) (talk) 09:58, 30 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Understood. Thank you! 朝彦 | Asahiko (talk) 01:10, 1 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

MassMessage timestamp

edit

Hi, I'm reaching out to you because you've used Special:MassMessage here in the last couple of months. In phab:T270435 there's a discussion about how to be able to use MassMessage when using the new "Page to be sent as a message" function, which would require an easier way of adding a timestamp. My suggestion is to add it automatically, since MassMassages are going out to discussion pages of different kinds, and should be timestamped. If you have a workflow where you don't want your message to be timestamped, please let me now on my talk page or in the Phabricator ticket. /Johan (WMF) (talk) 14:14, 14 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Messed up wd weekly summary numbers

edit

I recently signed up to receive Wikidata Newsletters on piwiki, where I'm an administrator. Just look at the numbering of the weekly Wikidata Newsletters at pi:Wikipedia:Noticeboard/Wikidata. Something is wrong there. Thanks! —‍CX Zoom (A/अ/অ) (let's talk|contribs) 16:22, 6 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

New image for the Wikidata main page by WMDE?

edit

Hey Mohammed, I am currently working on the Wikidata:Main page. The header image with the net (File:Wikidata nodes in white.svg) has two serious issues:

  • It has limited resolution due to the wide aspect ratio
  • It is CC-by-sa 4.0 licensed and thus needs to be linked to in order to be used properly

These problems make it difficult to set up the main page in a way that display well on all devices. Particularly small devices have issues right now.

Can you please ask the WMDE team whether there is will an capacity to provide a translatable new image that will be released into the public domain (in order to re-use it without having to link to its Commons file page)? The motif itself can probably be discussed, although the current image is quite cool from a conceptual point of view in my opinion.

Thanks, —MisterSynergy (talk) 22:14, 11 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

@MisterSynergy Thanks for working on the main page. I'll follow up on your query next week. Quick question: what resolution specifications do you recommend that will work well for small devices? Mohammed Sadat (WMDE) (talk) 18:05, 14 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Lydia has a meeting with the folks in UX next week. We'll let you know if there'll be capacity from our side to redo the image. -Mohammed Sadat (WMDE) (talk) 11:16, 17 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Looks like I forgot to reply to the previous comment.
I only have vague ideas regarding specs. The issue with the current "logo" is that it does not scale well, and it does not fit for smaller devices due to the wide aspect ratio (on smaller devices, the box may become higher than the current background image). For the current setup a *cropable* *square* image with roughly 2000x2000 px would be easier to use and suitable for most devices, or alternatively a smaller image with periodic boundaries (i.e. one that can be seamlessness repeated in both x and y direction). Before anyone really puts effort into this, we can also discuss this a little more in detail. Basically a full (technical) redesign of the main page using modern HTML/CSS should also be on the table. It currently uses floating div boxes which is kinda outdated and not very flexible.
Btw. if the UX team has their own thoughts on this problem, I'd appreciate if they could come up with them. I am certainly not the greatest UX expert; I am just on it in my role as Wikidata interface-admin because users comlained about poor display on small devices, and nobody else seemed to be interested to fix it. —MisterSynergy (talk) 22:58, 17 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for bringing this up. I discussed it with our designer and she'll have a look and come up with some ideas. The ticket for tracking it is here: phab:T321571. Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 15:09, 25 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

If you missed attending our last feedback session on the small wiki toolkits workshops, here is a short survey that you could fill out to let us know your technical learning needs and ideas and suggestions for improving the workshop format for the next year. If you attended the feedback session, you can still fill out the survey to share ideas that you couldn't do so more anonymously during our meeting last week. We look forward to learning from your suggestions and including them in the planning for next year. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeVhqgZYXQG8Fgw25xRS0n7eKMleOKy5i1tM5Ty3mGACtcTag/viewform. Is this right?

edit

Hi, tried to create a lexeme for Scots word 'dookit'. https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Lexeme:L1360859 Is this right? how could I improve/expand the entry? Stinglehammer (talk) 13:38, 25 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hey Stinglehammer. This looks good. It'd be great if you can add references to the usage examples. And also some pronunciation audios to the forms. -—M@sssly 13:46, 25 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
