- I'm sorry, I have no idea what you're trying to say. This is just a welcome template; if you type in your language's code ("fr" for French and so on), you should get it in that language. Happy editing, Arria Belli | parlami 12:30, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

editHello Muddy! I've been busy for the past many moons, and less active on sw than I'd like to be. It is great to see the recent growth... I wonder how we can get swahili-language libraries involved; or better import from the Kamusi Project. +sj | help with translation |+ 19:48, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
Userpage redirect
editNo, MediaWiki does not support inter-wiki redirects, but you can leave a link to your userpage. Arria Belli | parlami 14:57, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
- As I said, no. MediaWiki does not support it, so it will not work, no matter which wiki you're working in. Arria Belli | parlami 11:51, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Temporary sysop status granted
editHello. I've given you sysop status on swwiktionary for 6 months.
As an Administrator, you are allowed into #wikimedia-admin, the cross-wiki coordination channel for Wikimedia administrators. Any member of the channel can invite you in temporarily, but you need an invite exemption from a channel operator to get in whenever you want. Please come to #wikimedia and ask for an invite.
Any admin from any project is welcome and it is a good place for cross-wiki coordination of vandal and spam fighting. It is also useful for new admins to contact more experienced admins in real-time to get help with the more complicated admin tasks such as history merges/splits and importing via Special:Import.
re:Move function @sw:wiki
editDear ReCorD PrOduCer!!, I just tried, it should work for everyone, please note that moving pages is set to autoconfirmed, that means newly registered users will have to wait four days to be able to move pages, IPs can never move pages. All other users should be able to move without any problems. Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| ∇ 15:55, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

re:Nomination for bureaucrat in sw:wikt
editHello Muddyb, let us wait one whole week for the voting process, but when I have a look at the recent changes and the activity, the community and the voting itself I would say this wiki is a bit too small for a local crat. Is there anything specific You need, any bot requests or admin requests not handled? That could be requested here and is usually done quite fast. re:Sorounding border
editHi Muddyb, that's because the template You use requires a style sheet, it is in en:MediaWiki:Common.css, add
/* Image message box styles */ table.imbox { margin: 4px 10%; border-collapse: collapse; border: 3px solid #1e90ff; /* Default "notice" blue */ background: #fbfbfb; } .imbox-text .imbox { /* For imboxes inside imbox-text cells. */ margin: 0 -0.5em; /* 0.9 - 0.5 = 0.4em left/right. */ } .mbox-inside .imbox { /* For imboxes inside other templates. */ margin: 4px; } th.imbox-text, td.imbox-text { /* The message body cell(s) */ border: none; padding: 0.25em 0.9em; /* 0.9em left/right */ width: 100%; } td.imbox-image { /* The left image cell */ border: none; padding: 2px 0 2px 0.9em; /* 0.9em left, 0px right */ text-align: center; } td.imbox-imageright { /* The right image cell */ border: none; padding: 2px 0.9em 2px 0; /* 0px left, 0.9em right */ text-align: center; } table.imbox-notice { border: 3px solid #1e90ff; /* Blue */ } table.imbox-speedy { border: 3px solid #b22222; /* Red */ background: #fee; /* Pink */ } table.imbox-delete { border: 3px solid #b22222; /* Red */ } table.imbox-content { border: 3px solid #f28500; /* Orange */ } table.imbox-style { border: 3px solid #f4c430; /* Yellow */ } table.imbox-move { border: 3px solid #9932cc; /* Purple */ } table.imbox-protection { border: 3px solid #bba; /* Gray-gold */ } table.imbox-license { border: 3px solid #88a; /* Dark gray */ background: #f7f8ff; /* Light gray */ } table.imbox-featured { border: 3px solid #cba135; /* Brown-gold */ }

re:Image upload
editDear Muddyb, I just had a look: autoconfirmed users and sysops are allowed to upload. Autoconfirmed users means: registered users for >4days. That means only new users can't upload. This is the default setting for all wikiprojects, some wikipedias or sister projects even have the local upload disabled, like pt.wiki, or allow it only for sysops, like is.wikt, es.wikt. (I personally am much in favor of this btw.) because they think uploads should go to commons and don't allow fair use.
So the solution for the users for Your wiki is to register an account and wait 4 days, but I would suggest You try to get them to upload their files better at commons and help them doing so. (on Wikipedia we share knowledge, on Commons we share media :) )

re:Template:Kanzler
editDear Muddyb, in Template:Navbox/core the class "navbox" is used in the table, thefore You need something like this (from simple, like the template):
/* default skin for navigation boxes */ table.navbox { background-color: #f9f9f9; border: 1px solid #aaa; clear: both; font-size: 90%; margin: 1em 0em 0em; padding: 5px; text-align: center; width: 100%; } table.navbox th { background-color: #ccf; padding-left: 1em; padding-right: 1em; } table.navbox tr:not(:first-child) th { background-color: #ddf; } @media print { .navbox { display: none; } }
in sw:MediaWiki:Common.css. Always if You add a "class" in an HTML element You need to define it somewhere, either Common.css (users who use different skins will also see it) or in Monobook.css (only users who use the MonoBook skin will see it).
Best regards, ndege, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| ∇ 16:50, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
re:Auto Collapse
editHello Muddyb, the script for the template works as follows: if there is only one template like this it will not be collapsed, if there is more than 1 they will be collapsed. It is the same as in simple, there it is only collapsed, because they use more than one template of this kind on one page. if You want it to be always collapsed You would need to change "var autoCollapse = 2;" in sw:MediaWiki:Common.js from 2 to 1.

re:help for template age
editHello Muddyb, the if function in sw:Template:Birth date and age allows two different formatings: either 21 Marchi or Marchi, 21. If You use df=yes (see [1]), You will get 21 Marchi. If You want that formatting per default You should change the direction in sw:Template:Birth date and age instead of:
{{#if:{{{df|}}}|[[{{#expr:{{{3|{{{day|{{{3}}}}}}}}}}} {{MONTHNAME|{{{2|{{{month|{{{2}}}}}}}}}}}]]|[[{{MONTHNAME|{{{2|{{{month|{{{2}}}}}}}}}}} {{#expr:{{{3|{{{day|{{{3}}}}}}}}}}}]]}}
use
{{#if:{{{df|}}}|[[{{MONTHNAME|{{{2|{{{month|{{{2}}}}}}}}}}} {{#expr:{{{3|{{{day|{{{3}}}}}}}}}}}]]|[[{{#expr:{{{3|{{{day|{{{3}}}}}}}}}}} {{MONTHNAME|{{{2|{{{month|{{{2}}}}}}}}}}}]]}} ...
or if You want to remove the other formatting completely remove the if function and use:
[[{{#expr:{{{3|{{{day|{{{3}}}}}}}}}}} {{MONTHNAME|{{{2|{{{month|{{{2}}}}}}}}}}}]] ...

re:Interwiki to SW w:sw:Special:RecentChanges:
editDear Muddyb, yes, that can be done in the message: sw:MediaWiki:Recentchangestext. If You add interwikilinks to the recent-changes of other wikis they will appear in sw:special:recentchanges. You can just add them like:
[[am:Special:Recentchanges]] [[ar:Special:Recentchanges]] [[bg:Special:Recentchanges]] etc.
You don't need to use the localized names of "special" or "recentchanges" the English words will always work.

re:Additional functions
editDear Muddyb, I believe I understand what You mean, You will have to add it via JavaScript.
It would look like this:
if (mwCustomEditButtons) { mwCustomEditButtons[mwCustomEditButtons.length] = { "imageFile": "http://upload.wikimedia.org/...direct link to the image here.png", "speedTip": "Descriptions when the mouse is over the button", "tagOpen": "start", "tagClose": "end", "sampleText": "example"}; };
For example:
if (mwCustomEditButtons) { mwCustomEditButtons[mwCustomEditButtons.length] = { "imageFile": "http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d8/Button_archivo_borrar.png", "speedTip": "noinclude", "tagOpen": "<noinclude>", "tagClose": "</noinclude>", "sampleText": "this section won't be included in the template"}; };
There You can find some button images You could use: commons:Category:ButtonToolbar
Best regards, ndege, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| ∇ 13:29, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, well, that You can add in the sw:MediaWiki:Edittools, for example like this:
<charinsert>{<nowiki>{DEFAULTSORT:+}</nowiki>} [<nowiki>[Category:+]</nowiki>]</charinsert>
- best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| ∇ 07:11, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

re:Portal or Makala
editHello Muddyb, the problem is, that the namespace Portal: (or the swahili name for Portal) does not exist yet (therefore it is in the "article" namespace), You need to request a new namespace at bugzilla:, You can ask them for creating a namespace (portal in swahili) and having "Portal:" as alias (which will invisibly redirect to the swahili name then, just like sw:Help:anypage will show "Msaada:anypage" then). Don't forget to put "shell" as keyword in the bugzilla request.

re:Sysop right, period, and policy
editHello Muddyb, the policy for removal has to be defined locally, each project-community decide themselves. I personally would not bother to remove their rights on small projects, it is not very dangerous if they keep them and if they wish to come back, the better, but that is my opinion. Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 09:39, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- Hello Muddyb, if You ask for my personal opinion, I would as said not bother, they won't do anything bad, even if they never return. We have a bunch of inactive sysops on de.wiktionary for example, some even inactive since 2004. But just recently one who was gone since 2007 just became active again, and just like before he does good work and that is what small(er) projects need so much ;) (probably he would have been disappointed if we would have removed his rights and would have left again...).

Translator, We need you!
editDear Muddyb Blast Producer,
You have helped us in previous years with translations and for that we are most grateful. Now we turn towards the 2011/12 fundraiser. It may seem forever away, but work has already begun getting everything ready to go. This year we want to have landing pages covering as many countries in as many languages as possible.
Right now, we want to figure out who is interested in translating for the fundraiser. This year we're hoping to have more of a solidified "core" group of translators that we can count on to have work done by a few key dates, but we'd also welcome help from people who are willing to just help out when they can.
If you would be interested please take a look at this little sign-up survey and fill it out http://survey.wikimedia.org/index.php?sid=13638&newtest=Y&lang=en. With that we can start building a list of people and filling any gaps in the languages we serve.
Many Thanks

A barnstar for you!
editHi! I just want to thank you and give you this barnstar for your help with the translation of the 2011 fundraiser! The fundraiser was the best we ever had, both in terms of the amount we collected and in terms of number of translations. We couldn't have done either one without the help we got from you and other translators. If you are interested, we made a report, which has some statistics about the translations.
And: I have one more request, and that is that you take this survey. You may have got an e-mail about it, and if you did, please ignore this. But if you didn't it would be great if you would take this survey too, so we can learn to improve the translation experience.
Again, thanks for your help with translations – you're awesome! Jon Harald Søby (WMF) 14:28, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
Kenyan Wikipedian Stories
editHi!
My name is Victor Grigas and I'm a storyteller with the Wikimedia Foundation in San Francisco. I'm chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community from around the world. Stories are critical to inform and inspire the general public to support the Wikipedia movement by donating their money or to become volunteers themselves.
After seeing this inspiring story about Kenya's very own Gabriel Nderitu -
and hearing about the 'Project for Kenyan Schools', I thought that it might be fruitful to plan a trip to Kenya to interview Kenyan Wikipedians face-to-face.
I would need to confirm that I have at least 15 people to speak with who may have interesting stories about Wikipedia to make the trip worth the money. If needed, I could hire a translator. My understanding is that iHub in Nairobi hosts Wiki-meetups once a month. It may be feasible to attend a meetup there and interview people individually after that?
Please let me know what you think, I would very much like the opportunity to represent Wikimedia Kenya in the fundraiser this year.
I am sending this message to everyone I can reach at Wikimedia Kenya. Please let me know if there is a more formalized process to reach people.
Thank you for your time,
Victor Grigas

Note: This time, the "Wikimedia Foundation highlights" section does not include the usual coverage of the most notable work of Foundation staff during that month. Instead, it contains a list of talks given by Foundation staff at Wikimania, summarizing their most important work the year over. It looks like a lot of text, but only the talk titles will need to be translated. The intention is that these titles alone can already give readers a good overview of what the Foundation is working on in general.

Unconstructive conduct on Meta-Wiki
editYour reply on Asterlegorch367's talk page seriously concerns me. You write that Kisare's "suspension is not related to LGBTQ articles", instead claiming it's about templates.
This is demonstrably untrue. The block message explicitly states that it was intended to prevent Kisare's editing about queer topics. Follow-up messages thanked Kisare for their edits in other areas, and reiterated that the intent of the block is to "protect our African culture" (by enforcing anti-LGBT content) and retaliate for Kisare having reported this on Meta-Wiki.
Your conduct amounts to gaslighting: a contributor was blocked on swwiki explicitly for removing anti-LGBT content and for reporting admins' conduct on Meta-Wiki, and you came here to insist it's about template issues. This is unconstructive, and far below the standards of civil discussion on this project. Vermont (🐿️—🏳️🌈) 20:18, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
- Howdy?
- I am concerned about Kisare's recent editing practices, particularly with templates and categories, which have caused confusion. Despite our feedback, there has been no improvement, and he often dismisses input from local admins, showing a lack of collaboration. While Kisare has considerable knowledge, this seems to foster a sense of superiority, undermining our community's values of respect and wisdom. His refusal to engage with the local community led to restricting his editing privileges. For Wikipedia to thrive, we need cooperation and mutual respect, which Kisare needs to embrace.
