Hello, Richard Nevell (WMUK). Welcome to the Wikimedia Meta-Wiki! This website is for coordinating and discussing all Wikimedia projects. You may find it useful to read our policy page. If you are interested in doing translations, visit Meta:Babylon. You can also leave a note on Meta:Babel or Wikimedia Forum (please read the instructions at the top of the page before posting there). Happy editing!

Secured PDF for WMUK Governance report

edit

On the WMUK site, the Compass Partnership report is described as Creative Commons and a candidate to move to Commons. But it is being distributed as a secured PDF. Can you confirm that it is actually CC-licensed, and preferably, post a non-secured version yourself? You might even want to do an OTRS ticket for it, come to think of it.

I want to use big chunks of the text about what Wikimedia organizations should do (leaving out any specific WMUK history or issues) in an essay, Meta:Recommendations for chapters and thematic organizations, with minimal reworking. Wnt (talk) 21:05, 9 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Wnt. I'm afraid I don't have an unsecured PDF to upload as this version is the only one we have, sent to us by Compass. Thanks for checking about the licence, the report is definitely CC-BY-SA. The bit about it being eligible to be moved to commons is automatically generated on the UK wiki by the template but as Commons is for photos and other media I wouldn't particularly worry about it. I'm afraid that any chunks you want to use will probably have to be written out by hand. Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 13:32, 11 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Fortunately not - there are a bazillion ways to crack a pdf, but converting to djvu format is the most satisfying, if not the most photogenic among them. I've since added a lot of the text to the essay I mentioned above. I'm not sure exactly where to stop with it - the essay should ideally cover anything that is generalizable to any random chapter, but not stuff that is WMUK-specific. Wnt (talk) 05:50, 12 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
We are reviewing governance in a charity I am involved with, and I have recommended Section 3.19. It would be nice if we could cut and paste form this (with attribution of course). Perhaps Compass could be asked to provide an unprotected version? 86.151.20.200

edit

Hi! The Wikimedia Foundation would like your input on how we can reimagine Wikimedia Foundation grants to better support people and ideas in your Wikimedia project.

After reading the Reimagining WMF grants idea, we ask you to complete this survey to help us improve the idea and learn more about your experience. When you complete the survey, you can enter to win one of five Wikimedia globe sweatshirts!

In addition to taking the the survey, you are welcome to participate in these ways:

This survey is in English, but feedback on the discussion page is welcome in any language.

With thanks,

Inspire Campaign on content curation & review

edit

I've recently launched an Inspire Campaign to encourage new ideas focusing on content review and curation in Wikimedia projects. Wikimedia volunteers collaboratively manage vast repositories of knowledge, and we’re looking for your ideas about how to manage that knowledge to make it more meaningful and accessible. We invite you to participate and submit ideas, so please get involved today! The campaign runs until March 28th.

All proposals are welcome - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is welcome - your skills and experience can help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign to improve review and curation tasks so that we can make our content more meaningful and accessible! I JethroBT (WMF) 05:39, 29 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Through June, we’re organizing an Inspire Campaign to encourage and support new ideas focusing on addressing harassment toward Wikimedia contributors. The 2015 Harassment Survey has shown evidence that harassment in various forms - name calling, threats, discrimination, stalking, and impersonation, among others - is pervasive. Available methods and systems to deal with harassment are also considered to be ineffective. These behaviors are clearly harmful, and in addition, many individuals who experience or witness harassment participate less in Wikimedia projects or stop contributing entirely.

Proposals in any language are welcome during the campaign - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is appreciated, and collaboration is encouraged - your skills and experience may help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign so that we can work together to develop ideas around this important and difficult issue. With thanks,

Re: BBC 100 Women

edit

Hi Richard. I put my name on the complehensive campaign because we are organizing for the second time BBC 100 Women editathon, this time not in person editathon like the last year, but an online event. I supposed was the main page for all editions of this project from 2013, not only 2016. --Camelia (talk) 11:49, 8 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

These are the results ;-). --Camelia (talk) 10:15, 13 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

GLAMify has completed a report for you! :)

Hullo!

GLAMify has just completed a report you asked for, with suggestions for integrating media from commons:Category:Files uploaded by the Bodleian Libraries' Wikimedian In Residence.

The report is waiting for you here. :) Please note that the report pages may get deleted after 60 days, so if you'd like to keep these results around, copy them somewhere else.

The Community Wishlist Survey

edit

Hi,

You get this message because you’ve previously participated in the Community Wishlist Survey. I just wanted to let you know that this year’s survey is now open for proposals. You can suggest technical changes until 11 November: Community Wishlist Survey 2019.

You can vote from November 16 to November 30. To keep the number of messages at a reasonable level, I won’t send out a separate reminder to you about that. /Johan (WMF) 11:24, 30 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

[Wikipedia & Education User Group] Updates: November 2018

edit

Greetings,

Integrating Wikimedia with education is a powerful strategy for the outreach of Wikimedia projects. Realising this concept, a group of leaders promoted this and formed the Wikipedia Education Collaborative. After some time, this evolved to become a user group, officially recognised by the Affiliations Committee in June 2018. The user group had its first board elections earlier in September. In the process to formalise activities and give a shape the user group for long-term sustainability, we are now revamping our processes. Thanks for supporting us during incubation stages, we are now inviting you to formally join the user group by following the instructions on the members' page. Being a member will allow you to be a part of this wonderful collaboration and also do interesting stuff.

Kind regards
On behalf of Wikipedia and Education UG, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 11:44, 10 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Question about Celtic Knot

edit

Hello Richard,

I would like to know if there is any opportunity to apply for a scholarship related to the Celtic Knot conference, as it is the case for similar Wikimedia conferences. By this, I mean specifically if there is any support for the flights and accommodation?

Can you please clarify to me if there are any scholarships offered to attend this conference? And if yes, what is the process or the contact person who can help in that?

I have emailed you about this but did not get an answer yet. Thank you in advance for an answer!

Regards,

Anass Sedrati (talk) 09:35, 23 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hello Anass Sedrati, I've got your email and will reply to it today. Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 10:27, 23 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
