Plagiarism detectors

edit

Hello, thanks for w:en:Wikipedia:Education program/Research/Plagiarism, interesting. Given that you investigated the matter a bit, maybe you can help with the more general problem: the community, on several wikis, used to run copyright.py to identify copyvios, but most bots stopped because a Yahoo! BOSS key is now required. tools:~earwig/copyvios seems to have got hold of a key and we know that the WMF bought one, but nobody knows how to ask it. Lusum, in particular, is interested in getting one for it.wiki. Could you please find out how bot owners can get such a key? It would also be useful for you, because you'd outsource routine plagiarism checking to... free labour. ;) --Nemo 10:12, 1 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Nemo, I'll ask around. I expect to be presenting this research at the WMF metrics meeting this week (it got bumped from the schedule last month), so that will introduce the background to a lot of WMF staff, and after that I'll see what folks know about getting bot operators access to relevant keys.--Sage Ross (WMF) (talk) 14:36, 1 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Great, looking forward to it. --Nemo 16:27, 1 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Beginning of MassMessage, end of EdwardsBot

edit

Hi. You're being contacted as you're listed as an EdwardsBot user.

MassMessage has been deployed to all Wikimedia wikis. For help using the new tool, please check out its help page or drop a note on Meta-Wiki.

With over 400,000 edits to Wikimedia wikis, EdwardsBot has served us well; however EdwardsBot will no longer perform local or global message delivery after December 31, 2013.

A huge thanks to Legoktm, Reedy, Aaron Schulz and everyone else who helped to get MassMessage deployed. --MZMcBride (talk) 02:36, 22 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Education training pages simplification

edit

Hi. I was about to start tagging for translation various training pages, or pages like outreach:Wikimedia:Starting an education program and found that they use extremely fancy structure including some Lua modules and whatever stuff. Can't they be simplified so that would also easier to mark them for translation and then maintain? --Base (talk) 23:25, 26 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Base: FYI, Sage no longer works for the WMF, and I don't believe that the Outreach pages are actively maintained. Please see Wikipedia Education Program for current contacts. Best, Ed Erhart (WMF) (talk) 20:08, 30 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Ed Erhart (WMF), thanks, well I definitely chose a wrong account of his (went from a page history without thinking twice), but I believe he is still involved in Education Programme from Wiki Education Foundation (or whatever it is called), so I still hope that he follows the page and will respond :) --Base (talk) 22:20, 30 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi Base, thanks for your work on the training module pages. Simplifying these pages so that they can be marked for translation is an important point. Unfortunately, doing this is beyond my abilities. The highly complicated code is why I created phab:T114588 in the first place. Ideally, there is a community member, even an education collaborative member, who has the skills and interest to simplify the code while retaining functionality. If you know of such a person, or if you are such a person, please let me know. I have created a new task for this topic here: phab:T114593. Over-qualified CSS selectors

edit

My apologies that this message is just available in English.

Over-qualified CSS selectors of portals in Wikimedia skins have been changed. div#p-personal, div#p-navigation, div#p-interaction, div#p-tb, div#p-lang, div#p-namespaces or div#p-variants are now all removed of the div qualifier, as in for example it is #p-personal, #p-navigation …. This is so the skins can use HTML5 elements. Your gadgets or user styles seem to use them and you will have to update them. You can read more in phab:T252467.
