Travel guide

edit

Over at the English Wikipedia we specifically state that Wikipedia is not a travel guide. [1] Adding this content to Wikipedia at least in English would not be supported. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 16:17, 20 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Agree that their are issues. I am hoping that with an active community these can be dealt with. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 01:12, 23 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yes but what if I want to know how to get to Big Ben? The Wikipedia articles does not tell me which train takes me their. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 15:22, 24 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yes I do use Wikipedia for travel but it is not as good as could be a dedicated travel guide. Wikibooks may be a possible suggestion but as mentioned WT/WV is as big as all of Wikibooks. Have you edited Wikibooks much? What do you think the community their would think? Agree efforts to deal with potential advertising will be needed. We have articles on most pharmaceuticals and medications are of course commercial in nature in much of the world. We do occasional have to deal with pharmaceutical reps trying to bend the research and promote their projects but they are still an important part of Wikipedia. Same with movies. I think both formats would work well together (a dedicated wiki and a number of wiki books as a amalgamation of content by country or theme) as described here by Lane [2] Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 16:28, 26 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
