- Completely my fault, User:Cirt. The "Take me to the moon" banners took me through to here Wikimedia not to my talk pages at en:User:SimonTrew. For that reason I thought that my pages on EN:WP had been deleted, I didn't realise that it was the ones here at Wikimeta. You're right I jumped the gun, it just looked like that because the moon advertising campaign is on every sodding page every time you load a page at English Wikipedia. I did have a reason for not deleting the account, simply because I have them at French Wikipedia and I think Spanish Wikipedia because I do translation from time to time. I have no problem you deleting this, I fucked up. What I would not want is that it would spoil any references to my name as author/editor at crosswikis, but I am fine to have it go if that is not the case. I am sorry to be such an arsehole, I was very trigger happy too. SimonTrew (talk) 07:15, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
Re:huh?
editI am quite astonished by your agressive message (trigger happy? Me or you?) on my talk page; from the red links you link, you might have noticed you no longer are on en.wiki, but on meta. However, I deleted your user page in February 2014 because it had been created by an anonymous user with the content quoted below. I did not ban or block you, and I did not delete your talk page either.

- haha, I have no idea why that was there! Can't even imagine it being a copy-paste error by myself. I would not say agressive but assertive. I am sorry it sounded so. SimonTrew (talk) 07:16, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
More activities to do here
editHello. I invite you to participate in the second cycle of the Strategy/Wikimedia movement/2017, starting in May 5. Also, you may participate in proposals for new projects, including NonFreeWiki. --George Ho (talk) 16:33, 30 April 2017 (UTC)
Well this is rather a tricky problem
editI was banned (SimonTrew) at EN:WP a couple of years ago for making legal threats, and of course nothing has happened because I have no right of reply. Today I have uploaded two images to WikiCommons, which I want to use on EN.WP at the article EN:Steelite as they are pictures of a Steelite ashtray, of which I have done GDFL use it wherever you like etc, but since I happen to have one then I thought it would add to the best encyclopaedia in the world to have an image with the manufacturer's mark. These are at Commons.
But I had to log in to Commons to do that. I am not banned from Commons, or from any other Wikimedia site except EN:WP. Admin User:Alex Shih is rather heavy-handed in not only blocking my user account at EN:WP, which was agreed by consensus, (obviously my disagreeing) but blocking my editing HU:WP, FR:WP and so forth by blocking any editing from the range of IP addresses I edit from. Which is, I may say, a bit nonsense because my Vodafone, fibre internet and smartphone go out on entirely different addresses anyway. Block the lot if you want, but it is taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut.
I in good faith uploaded the images because I thought they would improve the article at EN:Steelite. The images are File:Steelite ashtray front.jpg and, to nobody's surprise, File:Steelite ashtray back.jpg, the latter more relevant as it has the impression of the Steelite's potters mark and manufacturing number etc on it. They made hundreds and thousands of these, for the hospitality industry, it is not as if they are valuable but I think a good example. After going to all the effort of doing this, uploading to Commons (from which I am not banned), etc etc etc, I am banned from editing even as IP to link it from EN:WP.
This is absurd. I cannot appeal the ban, because I cannot even under IP edit any page including User:SimonTrew to actually appeal with an unblock notice. You wonder why fewer people edit wikipedia? Because it is way too easy to block people by saying "making legal threats", then when you ask them what threat, what did I say, you just get indefinitely blocked with no right of reply. I had to log in to upload to commons, I couldn't do it under IP. Then somebody associates that IP with my username that is blocked but only blocked at EN:WP. It is not blocked, or should not be blocked, anywhere else. Since I can't even appeal the block anyway, and now my missus cannot edit because the admin blanked banned the IP range, it just gets a bit silly to be frank. I can go to the pub and have a completely different IP address and ransack the thing, and obviously I am not going to do that. It just gets rather silly when good-faith contributors are banned from making good-faith contributions.
It is not as if I am a vandal. This whole business started because of User:Eubot creating about thirty thousand redirects assuming that everything with an "ö" or "ü" was a en:Germanic Umlaut and creating nonsense like en:Goed (a Hungarian ö not Germanic), the Turkish leader en:Kemal Attatuerk, and that kind of rubbish. A bot that, when I looked up and traced etc, had never been approved. Diligently I went through 30,000 entries in lists created by User:Champion, we did not have a concession for X9 or anthing like we did with User:Neelix, I went through one by one to separate the wheat from the chaff and bring the ones I was in doubnt with, or needing deletion, to EN:T:RFD. It is why we don't have the heavy metal band en:Moetley Cruee, which Eubot created without any kind of authorisation to run the bot. (It's a EN:Metal umlaut.) But because I have a linguistic background and can separate the wheat from the chaff, I got a bit told off for listing too many nonsense ones like that, then all the trouble started. since I use my real name on Wikipedia, it does actually affect my reputation when people start saying nasty things about SimonTrew on Wikipedia, it DOES become personal. Because it is my real name and as far as I know only I and a military historian at Sandhurst have that name, so I am immediately identifiable.
