Logo position?
Hi Varnent, I saw your edit on the position of the Wikisource Community User Group logo and I was wondering if there are any reasons for placing it after the affiliates template?--Micru (talk) 08:11, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
- To help make it easier to translate, but I've finished setting it up for translation, and moved it back above the affiliates template (that was accidental on my part). Thank you for asking instead of reverting - I do appreciate it. :) --Varnent (talk)(COI) 15:17, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
- Varnent, thanks for your explanation and for putting it back up :) Well, long ago I realized that reverts are totally unfriendly (even one could argue that they are a form of violence), since then I am committed to ask when in doubt and spread positive interactions. A long way to go :)--Micru (talk) 08:00, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
This is an update from the Wikimedia Affiliations Committee. Translations are available.
The Affiliations Committee is requesting comments on proposed best practices for Wikimedia user group logos. The committee will seek community input until Saturday, May 24, 2014. After considering the community's input, the Affiliations Committee will publish on Meta-Wiki guidelines for Wikimedia user group logos.
There is already a standard format used by chapters, and that format is being applied to thematic organizations as well. Chapters and thematic organizations have also worked with Wikimedia Foundation legal in the past on custom logos. Wikimedia user groups may also create custom logos, and the new trademark policy allows for logos to be based off the community or Wikimedia Foundation logos. However, there remains a question of the best practice for standard user group logos.
Please make any comments or ask any questions on Meta-Wiki at Affiliations Committee/RFCs/Wikimedia user group logos.
Thank you - Wikimedia Affiliations Committee

- Had a lot to think about and recap from the Zürich Hackathon, e.g. things regarding search, suggestions as well as the user interface redesign
- Started doing mockups of the new user interface (Nothing to show yet, sorry!)
- Setup an autogenerating code documentation instance on labs at wbdoc.wmflabs.org. Hint: Submitting patches that make the inline code documentation even better is a good starting point to get involved in coding
- Continued working on the wikiba.se site and FAQ
- Worked on new datatype monolingual text (basically a string with an associated language)
- Reworked a hell lot of “change operations” code that’s responsible for each and every edit as well as validating user input and API requests, for example denying empty descriptions and finding and blocking unnecessary duplications
- Checked all the new Beta features that the teams in San Francisco are developing and made sure they work with Wikidata

Hi! I just want to point you that it was not the best idea to put section with comments and translatable text on the same page. Now after every comment added it needs to be marked for translation again otherwise it distracts TAs . Do you agree? -- Ата (talk) 11:03, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- Fair point - let me contemplate that one a bit... --Varnent (talk)(COI) 17:01, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- I may play around with this more - but I came up with a solution for now. The content of the page is now a subpage. The problem with this then is that the main RFC page itself isn't setup for language switching, so in other languages the comments appear via transclusion. I debated making the comments a subpage, but worried that would hinder some people from commenting. This is still not an ideal solution as the comments are now a subpage for non-English editors, but it's functional. Any ideas on how to improve upon this would be appreciated. --Varnent (talk)(COI) 17:09, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

Translation from non-English
Thanks for editing my translation brackets on EU policy/Studies/FoP1/. I didn't know this is valid only for translation where the source text is in English. Do you perhaps know if there's a way to request an German->English translation? Thanks! --Dimi z (talk) 11:00, 28 May 2014 (UTC)
- You could send a request to the Translation committee. Basically finding a German translator to do an English version - and then it can be setup to use the translate extension. Hopefully at some point in the future the extension can support other source languages beyond English - but for now that is not a feature. --Varnent (talk)(COI) 18:47, 28 May 2014 (UTC)

Please test the new feature Special:PageMigration
As a Google Summer of Code Intern, I have been working on the Mass Migration tools project for Wikimedia. We are now ready with a minimal working product. The tool helps translators and translation administrators import the old translations into the Translate Extension.
An instance of the same has been set up on labs. You can find some useful instructions on the main page.
Please test the tool and report bugs/suggestions using the link provided on the main page itself. You can have a look at the tracking bug to check already reported bugs.
Looking forward to hearing from you! Cheers. BPositive (talk) 14:33, 14 June 2014 (UTC)
