Wiki99 is a project to develop about 99 Wikipedia articles in each of various fields of information, then translate those articles into as many other languages as possible. Anyone interested in any field of information may propose their own "Wiki99" and list it on this page.

The reason for compiling lists is that when there are Wikipedia editing events, people often ask, "What articles should I edit?" When these lists are available for a topic, then these articles become standing suggestions for development and perpetual monitoring. When the sets of articles are well developed, they become good examples for collections of information that Wikipedia provides.

How to create a Wiki99 list

Choose any field of study
Identify the 99 most important concepts in that field of study
List Wikipedia articles covering those 99 topics
Advertise the existence of the list to others who would discuss it
Collectively edit and change the list to get consensus for what should be included
99 articles is not a limit - feel free to use 80, 100, 115, or any number you like. This is wiki so do as you please. The popular request is for lists of about 100.

Choosing topics

For projects where the goal is the promotion of a shared global culture which will be relevant to the largest number of people, consider attempting to mirror the demographics of the world (Q5256120). Do this by trying to match the allotment of the items in the Wiki99 list to the proportion of categories in demographic reports. Global demographics should be a suggestion and not a constraint so freely make changes and exceptions while being thoughtful about it.

When choosing a topic, check the existing interest in that topic based on the traffic reporting of Wikipedia pageviews.
