- Thank you for supporting and encouraging Nashik Bid. As for the connectivity issues, Nashik is fairly equidistant from the north and south cities of India. Also it is just 128 kms away from Mumbai (by train). If travelling becomes an issue, how can we expect Wikipedia to reach remote areas?
- Having the conference in a city like Nashik is a great way to do Wiki outreach.

WCI 2016 host city selection announcement
The five member panel of jury nominated by the Wikimedia communities of India at large, has assessed all available information from the bids presented for conducting and successfully completing the upcoming Wikimedia Conference India - 2016 and from several interactive sessions through the internet relay chat, has asserted to choose CHANDIGARH as the winning host.
Of the three bids, the one from Ahmednagar was rejected at an early stage for lack of sufficient documentation and presentation. The remaining two cities showcased their bids in an attractive and thorough manner. The Jury adapted several parameters as shown below. Weightages are given in parentheses:
- Thoroughness and degree of realistic projections demonstrated through the bid (6%)
- Additional Financial support and cost efficiency (10%)
- Available Infrastructure and logistics as projected (23%)
- Previous Experience in conducting large scale Wikimedia-related events (10%)
- Accessibility and facilities for inbound travel from different parts of India (6%)
- Strength and dedication of the actual field team on ground (25%)
- Potential outcomes to the advantage of Wikimedia movement in general and participating Indic communities in particular (15%)
- Perceived Risks of abandoning, postponing or cost over-running of the program (5%)
The jury has appreciated the tireless efforts put into the bids by both teams viz. Nashik and Chandigarh. According to the individual members of jury, both bidders have scored neck-to-neck in each parameters. Chandigarh came up with a score of 72.91 % against a runner-up score of 69.69% by Nashik.
