WikiFestival Nigeria
WikiFestival Nigeria aims at bridging the festival gap that exists on Wikipedia with a focus on Nigerian-related content. There is a substantial lack of content in the Festival area in Nigeria as there are a lot of notable festivals that deserve a stand-alone article on Wikipedia. Our first onsite program is scheduled to hold on July 31, 2021, where every participant will be taught how to create and improve the content on the Festivals in Nigeria on Wikipedia and how to upload photos relating to festival contents on Wikimedia commons before the contest will commence fully on July 31st, 2021 and will end August 31st 2021.

Purpose
editThere is a substantial lack of content in this area which became obvious to the project lead when making some research about Festivals in Nigeria. Few other experienced Wikimedians and Kolawole Oyewole (the Project lead in Nigeria) will use the event and several others to introduce English Wikipedia and Wikimedia commons to existing Wikipedia editors and new editors using the knowledge acquired in the past few years.
Project Goals
editFor the project: WikiFestival? the edit-a-thon that is aimed at covering the Nigerian festival gap on Wikipedia, we aim to:
- Add and improve Festival related content in Nigeria to Wikipedia.
- Recruit new Wikipedia editors
- Engage and Increase skills for existing editors: by writing independent articles about different Festivals in Nigeria
- Add photo content relating to festivals in Nigeria on Wikimedia commons and using some of the photos to improve existing or new articles on Festivals in Nigeria.
- To cover the festival gap on Wikipedia since quite a number of notable festivals do not have a stand-alone page on Wikipedia.
Project or Events
editThe first event (physical event) will take place on July 31, 2021. In accordance with the Covid-19 Guidelines in Nigeria, a limited number of editors will be admitted for the physical event while provisions will be made available for virtual participants to participate. Thereafter, we will have three weeks of online edit-a-thon. Outreach Dashboards will also be created to track the contributions of participants.
