Rules for Editing and Auditing Eligible Editors

Participation Eligibility

edit
  • Good Standing: Editors must not have any active blocks for disruptive behaviour on any Wikimedia project from the start date of the contest or during the contest period.
  • No Pre-Existing Entries: Editors cannot submit articles that they have worked on before the announcement of this contest. This should be a fresh contribution to Wikipedia.
  • Declaration of Conflicts of Interest: Editors with potential conflicts of interest must disclose them on the talk page of their submission and avoid editing any entries with an existing COI.
  • No Self-Promotion: Editors cannot participate in order to promote themselves or their own personal projects/works

Content Creation Guidelines

edit
  • Article Focus: Submissions can be new articles or substantial improvements to existing articles. However, submissions must primarily focus on topics directly related to Ramadan, Islamic culture, or related figures, places, or traditions that are not yet well-covered on Wikipedia. Preference is given to creating new articles.
  • Referencing Standards: All information must be verifiable and supported by citations from reliable, secondary sources, as listed in Wikipedia's guidelines. Citations must be correctly formatted and placed appropriately.
  • Neutral Point of View: Articles must adhere to a neutral point of view, presenting information fairly and without bias. Any viewpoints must be attributed to reliable sources.
  • Copyright Compliance: All content must be compliant with Wikimedia's copyright policies. Text and media used must either be original or licensed under a compatible Creative Commons license or be in the public domain.

All articles must be original content, not copied from other sources.

  • Article Depth & Length: Submissions must be of substantial depth, covering the topic in a comprehensive manner. Articles should go beyond basic definitions and provide insightful and detailed information. While no minimum word count is required, submissions must demonstrate a level of commitment and detail to be eligible. The quality, detail, research and comprehensiveness are of greater importance than the length of the article. Stubs will not be considered.
  • Appropriate Language and Tone: Articles must adhere to the appropriate language and tone for Wikipedia, including formal and respectful language and avoiding any offensive or inflammatory terms. Articles also should be easily readable and understandable by the average reader.
  • No Machine Translation: The use of machine translation alone is not acceptable. All articles, whether fully translated or not, must be revised by a human to ensure a readable article.

Submission Instructions

edit
  • All submissions must be categorized under a clearly defined category on the respective language version of Wikipedia. This category will be: Category:2025 Wiki Loves Ramadan Contributions (should be translated to your local language).
  • All entries must be submitted before 15 April 2025, at 23:59 UTC.
  • Submissions must be linked to the specific competition and should also include a tag on the talk page, to be easily identified for judging.
