2022 Activities
editOn 24th September 2022 the Network was founded with 40 participants in attendance after a three days Training - The Train the Trainers in South-East Nigeria Program. The leaders of Anambra Network were appointed. INDEPENDENCE DAY '22'
The Network Celebrated the 2022 Nigeria Independence as the Network president urged her members to take photos on their White and green outfit to tone high the Celebration. At the end of the day 2 Network members emerged as the Winners with the best outfits and photos.They are tagged THE FACE OF ANAMBRA NETWORK

LEXICOGRAPHICAL DATA/WIKIDATA @10 ON 28TH OCTOBER, 2022
This was the first project that took place in the Network after its inception. The project involved training community members on how "Lexemes and words are created on Wikidata, and how to link data." A total number of 30 participants were in attendance and joined the dashboard. On the same day the Wikimedia Anambra Network Celebrated Wikidata @ 10.

THE AFRICAN YOUTH MONTH 2022 15th November,2022
The Network held an Online event of a month-long campaign that aimed at bridging the content gap about Africa, which is to showcase the good, richness, and resourcefulness of Africa to the world. Africa Youth Day 2022 is recognized as one of the African Union (AU) holidays, with the theme: "Breaking the Barriers to Meaningful Youth Participation and Inclusion in Advocacy".At the end of the online trainings 14 participants joined the dashboard and made Contributions, 5 participants emerged winners and were given prizes.
Opening up Knowledge about Anambra senatorial zone
This project came up with the reasons that The biggest online encyclopedia – Wikipedia is inclusive of articles from all over the world. However, navigating the site has shown that many communities, local government areas and senatorial zones in Anambra State are not duly represented in Wikipedia.
It was. therefore important that the gap is filled. This activity was about articles and photos on communities from Anambra North Senatorial Zone. This project offers the insight, training, skills and facilitation in increasing participation in the Know your communities and contribute to their knowledge in Anambra North Senatorial Zone. A total number of 32 participants were in attendance on 25th of November 2022 and they contributed in bridging knowledge gaps and an Edit a thon was fixed to increase contribution. 5 top participants were appreciated for their immense contributions .
2023 Activities

The Network Started its 2023 activities by organizing an Online quiz tagged How Best do you the Wikimedia Movement which at the end 4 Community members emerged the Winners having answered their questions about the Wikimedia Movement and the Network.
Wikisource was introduced tothe Network on the 3rd of February,2023 with a total number of 24 participants in attendance. Community Members were taught the basics of editing Wikisource and how to link the author pages and tex to their wikipedia articles.At the end of the training, community members made contributions thereby creating pages for authors and their wirks on Wikisource, Linking them to their wikipedia articles.
Bridging Misinformation and Disinformation in Nigeria Elections/ Politics
This project was to bridge knowledge gap on Nigeria politics.The total number of 20 participants were in attendance on the 23rd of February for this project. Community Members were taught the basics of Editing Wikipedia,How to translate Articles, how to create wikidata items,how to add photos etc. After the training,Contributions were made by creating the politics and Electoral acts on the States of Nigeria.
This is the commemoration of World Cancer Day titled Close the Care Gap World Cancer Day which is internationally marked on 4th February every year to raise awareness of cancer as well as to encourage its prevention, detection, treatment, and management. The program involved training participants on how to edit Wikipedia and its Sister projects. It also included how to create content, add photos, citations, categories, and infoboxes on Wikimedia articles. There was sensitization and discussion on cancer. This project was in collaboration with Nigerian Library Association (NLA), Anambra State Chapter, and Development Initiatives for Technology and Empowerment. The Event was attended by 27 participants and they contributed immensely to this project. The project lasted for 2 weeks and the highest 5 contributors were given prizes. Wiki Loves Africa is an annual contest where anyone across Africa can contribute media related to that year's theme to Wikimedia Commons for use on Wikipedia and other WIkimedia projects. Wiki Loves Africa encourages participants to contribute media (photographs, video and audio) that illustrate the specific theme for that year. Each year the theme changes. Each year's theme is chosen by the community to be a universal, visually-rich and culturally-specific topics (for example, Fashion,food, Habitat, festivals, public art, cuisine, natural history, urbanity, daily life, notable persons, etc).. Everybody can participate.
This year, The Wikimedia Anambra Network joins Nigeria to participate again,to submit photos about Rain, Environment and Weather in Anambra State Nigeria. This was to share the climate beauty of Anambra with the rest of the world to enjoy through the internet.The project involved Photowalks and uploads. Children's Day 2023
editOn the 27th of May 2023, the Network Celebrated her Wikikids Online. The president gave her speech, thanking the Wikimums For joining our physical meetings despite their busy maternity time and als Thanked the Wikidads for allowing all these happen. On a special note the Wikikids received gifts from the president to celebrate the event. It was during this event that the Child Care support was added into Consideration in Every of our physical meet- ups.

The #1Lib1RefNG is a part of the global #1Lib1Ref editing campaign.1Lib1Ref — abbreviated for one librarian, one reference The project was call for Wikimedians around the world, and anyone who has a passion for free knowledge, to add missing references to articles on Wikipedia. The purpose of the Event was to train participants on the basics of editing and how to add citations using reliable Sources. They were also taught how to find articles needing citation using the Citation Hunt tool. you can read more about the project on the meta page
Deepening Community Engagement on Movement Strategy Implementation
editThis is a 3months plan(work in progress) to mentor the new participants who joined the Network when it was founded.This is an initiative to introduce to Community Members the 2030 Movement Strategy initiatives for us to know our Strategic directives. The plan here is to learn and Evaluate on the strategies for a participatory Network. Community members will learn how to edit Wikimedia projects. We aim at Nurturing leaders who will bring in more volunteers to contribute to the Sum of human knowledge. To read more on the project go to the project page
The Network held a program on the Visibility of African Women by introducing to participants the basics of editing the Wikimedia space and unveiling the need to make Women visibile online. The event recorded 30 participants who contributed to the project by translating Wikipedia pages about notable women to Igbo language thereby improving African language Visibility.

Wikimedia Anambra Network embarked on Wiki Tertiary Institution journey which Igbariam was one of it's training center. The idea of the project was to create awareness, sensitize and recruit new editors to know about Wikipedia as a free knowledge base platform so as to help improve the quality, credibility and reliability of Wikipedia and it's Sister projects; And also giving the institution/students and lecturers an online presence on Wikipedia. At the end of the training,the Network taught them know they can source information and material from Wikipedia and it's Sister projects and also help in contributing in the sum of all human knowledge by documenting their language, culture, environment,climate etc There were more than 35 participants present which includes Staff and Students and Librarians from the Anambra State University.
A project focused on using Wikimedia as a tool in fighting the Triple planetary Crisis which are global Crisis. The aim of the #WikiForHumanRights2023 was to make sure that everyone has access to fact-checked information around our Right to a Healthy Environment which is a legal right acknowledged by the UN (The human right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment), and also a way of connecting human rights and the triple planetary crisis which are: climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss. This means we need to make Peace with Nature, of which human rights need to be at the center of the solutions. The Community had a physical training on 14th of July that involves panelists session toned by A journalist and a Student from Department of Environmental studies. Community Members were taught the impacts of the Triple planetary Crisis to human and the impacts of human caused Environmental changes. participants were taught the basics of using the Wiktionary, Wikiquote and Wikidata to open up knowledge on human rights when it comes to the Environment. This project was held on 25th July,2023 with a record of 25 participants in attendance. Community Members were taught the basics of editing the Igbo Wikiquote and the need to create contents about women on Wikimedia. The Event dashboard will show how community members contributed to the project.
As Photograph helps to capture the reader's attention better than having so many write ups, it enriches and illustrates content, and it gives spice to an article and make the article more engaging for readers. This is the aim of ths project as Uncountable images have been contributed to Wikimedia Commons through various photo walks, and contests Yet relatively few of these photos have been used on Wikipedia article.Wikimedia Anambra Network joined in the WpWp annual campaign to add photos to Wikipedia pages lacking photos to promote the use of digital media files collected from various Wikimedia photography contest The project helped in bridging a huge gap as there are alot of photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons that have not been used on Wikipedia article pages. 2024 Activities
editCapturing the Cultural Events and Festivities during Christmas in Nigeria
Christmas season in the Nigeria is a great event that is well prepared ahead of time. It is a time for mass return, fixing of cultural activities, weddings, traditional marriages, chieftaincy titles; dancing ceremonies, and many other cultural heritage activities. In this project, photo shoots and uploads of events were organized for volunteers to capture these festivities in their local communities. This once-in-a-year event fill the memories and need to be saved for all time references. Building the Repositories of Sectors in Anambra State for Knowledge and Sustained data 2024
This is the documentation of Anambra State Government and Public places on Wikidata. The Wikidata program aimed to document the data of Anambra State Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), streets, and markets in the state. These important documents are missing on the world greatest online encyclopedia. The essence is to create awareness on them to enable usage for learners, researchers and teachers
WPWP 2024 Campaign in Wikimedia Anambra Network
editWikimedia Anambra Network joined in the WPWP annual campaign to add photos to Wikipedia pages lacking photos to promote the use of digital media files collected from various Wikimedia photography contest as Uncountable images have been contributed to Wikimedia Commons through various photo contests. The event was held in Awka and recorded 40 participants in attendance, they contributed immensely by adding photos to Wikipedia without photos. for more details see the Dashboard
1Lib1Ref 2024 in Wikimedia Anambra Network
edit1Lib1Ref a campaign focused on building an empire of quality contributors while learning and adding value to existing articles in Wikipedia. The globally involved campaign of #1Lib1Ref is commemorated annually to remind us of the importance of ensuring quality information via the free knowledge space with accurate and verifiable sources. Wikimedia Anambra Network joined the annual campaign to improve the accuracy and reliability of Wikipedia articles by adding missing references. The campaign engaged librarians, Wikimedians, linguists and members of Wikimedia Anambra Network in promoting the values of free knowledge and verifiability. Wikimedia User group Nigeria Wikimedia Leaders Retreat 2024 Lagos
editWUNG Organized Network/Community/Hubs Leaders Retreat in Lagos in May 2024, for it's leaders in Nigeria with the aim of marking the beginning of new fiscal year, brainstorm new initiatives, Foster teamwork and collaboration and prepare for a successful and productive year ahead. Wikimedia Anambra Network was represented by its President, Dr. Ngozi Perpetua Osuchukwu.

W4HR 2024 in Wikimedia Anambra Network
The Wiki for Human Rights 2024 campaign is an initiative for creating open knowledge and free learning on understanding the human rights issue around environmental sustainability in Nigeria. Wikimedia Anambra Network joined the Campaign to bridge significant knowledge gaps within Wikimedia platforms, particularly Wikipedia, Wikivoyage, and Wikidata. The network also contributed by the the use of local languages to lessen these gaps in knowledge. There were Virtual and In-person sessions carried out in the Network. Celebrating Wikidata's 12th Birthday
editWikimedia Anambra Network joins in Celebrating Wikidata 12th Birthday to mark a dozen years of collaborative effort and contribution to open knowledge. Wikidata was launched on October 29, 2012 and turns 12 on 29 October, 2024. Join us in celebrating 12 years of providing free access to structured data And exploring the achievements of the Wikidata community. This was an opportunity to educate new members about Wikidata and also shared learnings and insights gained from Celtic Knot Conference session on Lexicographical data. Community Members learnt how to create and Improve Lexemes.
The event took place at Nigeria book Foundation, Kenneth Dike Library Aroma, Awka Anambra State on 19th October, 2024 and recorded at least 45 Network members and Wikikids.
