Global metrics table
editMetric | Achieved outcome | Explanation |
1. # Total participants | 218 of 546 (40%) Not achieved |
When we plan this metric for 2020 in late 2019 we cannot possibly think about pandemic situation whole 2020. Switching to online events and reaching new participants, or engage existing one was very hard at first. |
2. # Number of newly registered users | 111 of 546 (37%) Not achieved |
When we plan this metric for 2020 in late 2019 we cannot possibly think about pandemic situation whole 2020. Switching to online events and reaching new participants was in particular hard. This metric was especially affected through countless quarantine days and curfews conducted from the Government. Online events gives only slight improvement, but this metric was not set to be done via online channels. |
3. # Number of content pages created or improved, across all Wikimedia projects | 10.553 of 8.627 (122%) Over achieved |
Thanks to initiative #StayHome on main page of the Macedonian Wikipedia, which was umbrella for our editing challenges with various themes, we actually overachieved this metric. This metric will be much better with all of the expected articles from visited areas with expeditionary projects, which will be published in this period due late organizing of this kind of project due Global policy of Foundation. |
4. # Uploaded photographs used in articles | 1.315 of 3.368 (39%) Not achieved |
On closing date of the report (30.01.2021) we have only 1.315 distinct image used in the articles, but that number increases on daily basis as we expect volunteers to write all articles connected with expeditionary projects conducted on the end of 2020, after removing of the global ban. Additionally, photographic competition does not have expected number of uploaded photographs, and projects in the area of Partnerships, which were cancelled or delayed. |
5. # Number of volunteer hours | 13.759 of 11.619 (118%) Over achieved |
The number of hours spent by volunteers to support the organisational work. |

The activities that were completed or partly completed were: two editing sessions at the Faculty of Computer Sciences & Engineering, one editing session at the Physics Department of the Faculty of Natural Sciences & Mathematics. Speaking of Faculty of Natural Sciences & Mathematics, we managed to film a total of 42 experiments, 19 being chemistry and 23 being physics experiments, with the help and cooperation of the professors that work at the Faculty.
Editing contest for students

|
46 editing days were held. Same as the weekends, the successful metrics are mostly because of the increased number of installments, but also because of newly registered users.

- Overall assessment
Education Programme
The activities started in January when Wikiexperiments were reactivated, for the first time since 2016. Filming these of videos serves as a way to digitalize and capture the chemical and physics processes for better vusualization and for no or less funds for spending in the education. As said, the January activities were scheduled for chemistry experiments, and from October and December the physics experiments got covered.
When it comes to editing activities, we held one editing event at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Skopje. And in the same period, two editing events at the Faculty of Computer Sciences and Engineering. No be noted, according to the plan we should have organized two more event but we were forced to cancel them due to the COVID-19 spread in that March.
Editing contest for students
In collaboration with the users group GLAM Macedonia, we organized this editing competition exclusively for persons from 15 to 18 years old. No certain theme was chosen and the title was "Necessary Articles". This means that participants were guided by a specific article that enlists which articles should and can be created.
Editing competitions
Editing chalenges that last for one month, and at the end, the best competitors deservedly are rewarded by the three-part jury. When it comes to article numbers, this has been a successful year. The titles of these contests were "Settlements of Pirin Macedonia", "CEE Spring 2020", "Macedonian Encyclopedia" and "Wikimedia Asian Month".
Edit-a-thons
This year we collaborated with two organizations: The Institute of Human Rights - Skopje and the national level youth entity called MladiHub. The firstly mentioned gave a typical cooperation by giving their expertise. On the other hand, MladiHub provided us the event-place and human resources to make the last three edit-a-thon and most of them were held entirely online because of precaution of the Pandemic. The titles of the events were: "Human Rights", "Community service", "Digitalization and Youth", "Computer science, mathematics, medicine and culture".
Editing days
An editing event open for 24 hours, held twice a week in Tuesday and Thursday. Because of the COVID-19 restrictions and some interest noted indirectly from the Wikipedians, we multiplied the number of editions. The most common topics were about art/paintings, Macedonian archaeological sites, astronomy, administrative divisions, history.
Editing weekends
An editing event open for 48 hours, at every weekend especially after mid March. The most common topics were about music, literature, history, geography.
Photohunts
Project in which certain person can suggest where to go and/or explore in order to photograph some sites or objects. Three photohunts were carried this year. The first two were apllied by the same two participants, when they headed to municipalities of Kratovo and Debar, in September and November respectively. The last made photohunt was in the Municipality of Kavadarci in December, by another two participants.
Wiki Sketches
In normal situations, the Sketches are held in our office, when generally new participants are given training and mentorship by one of our staff, and they edit on what they please. But after COVID-19 restrictions, we immediately adapted the project online where we communicated safely. Because of the easy reach of contacting, we achieved a hugh number of created and improved articles.
Wikiexpeditions
All the planned four expeditions got realized in the third and fourth quarters of 2020, done by a group of four people total. The visited regions were Plasnica & Kičevo Municipalities (titled Kičava and Rabetinkol), Osogovo Mountain region, Bregalnica River valley region, Region of Ovče Pole. Around 1,865 kilometers got covered during all four expeditions
MacPortrait Photo Contest
Annual installment of a photo competition where the participants upload their own authored media. This years topic was about notable Macedonians. It lasted whole month, from October 15 to November 15. The participants achievements were ranked on base of quantity. Then the special prize was given based on a three-part jury that selected the most beautiful/mostnotable photograph. Because there was a tie at the best image, two photographs shared the 'podium' of best photograph.
Museum of Tobacco
On March 10th, we visited the Museum of Tobacco in the town of Prilep, as a part of the Museum of Town of Prilep. We had the chance to tour the museum, browse catalogs, artwork and other unique samples of the earliest beginnings of tobacco production until today. To be noted, we also got images from the other departments of the Museum of Prilep. But most importantly, the museum staff allowed us to take over and upload photos from their collection in order to enrich the Macedonian Wikipedia. The uploads got realized in periods in March, April and May.
