Objectives
As with Wikimedians of the Levant, there has not been sufficient participation to establish individual groups, so it has been decided to pursue a group to support the whole region. There is particular interest in supporting languages like Haitian Creole that are particular to the region, developing content covering underrepresented regional topics, and also to support offline access for areas that do not otherwise have access.
Background
- An early group of Caribbean Wikimedians was formed at WikiConference North America, at Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, October 20th, 2018.
- On 26 July 2019 the Affiliations Committee officially recognised the Wikimedians of the Caribbean User Group (WikiCari).
- Wikimedians of the Caribbean was named the Most Exciting New Affiliate in North America at WikiConference North America 2019 held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the first year the Caribbean was added as a region at the conference.
