Wikipedia Asian Month User Group Steering Committee

The Steering Committee (StC) is the guiding and supervisory body of WAMUG, equivalent to the board of directors or supervisory board of an organization. 1 seat reserved for Chairperson of the "Asia-Pacific Open Knowledge Association", the association registered for securing the base of WAMUG.

Purpose of Steering Committee

To further enhance the impact and organizational efficiency of Wikipedia Asian Month, and to ensure the long-term success and growth of the User Group and the campaign, we are establishing a Steering Committee. The Steering Committee will be responsible for providing strategic guidance, coordinating various aspects of the campaign, and ensuring that the goals of the initiative are effectively achieved.

We aim to further strengthen Wikipedia Asian Month as a global platform for cultural exchange and knowledge sharing, driving the creation of articles related to Asia and promoting greater understanding and involvement of Asia’s diverse cultures within the global Wikimedia Movement.

Responsibilities of Steering Committee

• Campaign Planning and Strategic Guidance: Ensure that the annual planning of Wikipedia Asian Month aligns with the broader goals of the Wikimedia Movement, and provide strategic direction for the user group.

• Resource and Support Management:

1. Ensure that the necessary resources (such as funding, tools, etc.) are allocated effectively to support the event.
2. Coordinate with the Wikimedia Grant Committees, community partners, and other supporters to secure the resources required for the event’s success.

• Monitoring and Impact Assessment: Regularly monitor the progress of the event and the operation of the user group, evaluate its effectiveness, and offer solutions to any emerging issues.

• Communication and Promotion: Coordinate the promotion and publicizing of the campaign to ensure global visibility and participation.

Community Relations and Event Management Meeting

• Attendee: committee members, executive director, special advisors and ambassadors.
• Frequency: Quarterly but once a month from October to January.
• Motions: Grants application rules, offline event plans, review of subsidies and ambassador releated grants, regional achievements, and other proposals.

Operational Report Meeting

• Attendee: committee members, executive director and special advisors.
• Frequency: Monthly.
• Motions: financial report, task execution report, proposals discussion.
