Project description | A free Songbook: This idea is not my idea; many persons had this (Wikimusic II, Wikimusic, Wikisongs, WikiSongs), but all had problems with the copyright. Now we can write scores with the wiki-software, so there aren't so much problems with the copyright and it isn´t a sisterproject of Wikimedia Commons. Second this Wiki isn´t for Songtext it is for music, so it isn´t a sister project of Wikisource. There is something like this in the german Wikibooks: de:b:Liederbuch. The problems with this book is first it isn´t international - I think it should be - and second it isn´t really what Wikibooks is. |

Discussion
edit- How are you suggesting this is going to be populated? Are you suggesting editors add their own compositions? hiàn 03:35, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
- @hiàn:I thing there are many songs that have no history to write an article about it and I thing it is a good addendum to wikipedia by songs in wikipedia. And to your second question: I didn't thing so, but why not? --Habitator terrae (talk) 08:18, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
- So... public domain works? From what time periods should the music be coming from? hiàn 02:56, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
- The music should coming from all time periods. (They should be public domain, so the songs are a little bit old:) --Habitator terrae (talk) 09:36, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
- Definitely an interesting proposal. I'll look into the feasibility of this project. hiàn 21:43, 12 April 2018 (UTC)
- @hiàn: And what to you thing about the feasibility of this project? --Habitator terrae (talk) 19:18, 20 April 2018 (UTC)
- Still looking. hiàn 19:53, 20 April 2018 (UTC)
- @hiàn and Ju gatsu mikka: And what do you say now? Habitator terrae (talk) 15:12, 31 May 2018 (UTC)
- I think it's definitely a good idea, but the scope is a bit narrow. I'm not adding my name, but if the project picks up I'll definitely be willing to contribute. Hiàn (talk) 21:06, 31 May 2018 (UTC)

- Could have some potential, especialy for public domain music sheets with specific wiki language. Though, it can also be envisaged as a simpler extention for Wikibook: why should it be a separate project? Can you please argument your way @Habitator terrae: Ju gatsu mikka (talk) 17:29, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- Because Wikibooks always have a language, so it isn't really international and I thing we should translate the descriptions of the songs. But if do this, I thing, it can be on Wikibooks. --Habitator terrae (talk) 17:54, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
- note: here some of the similar propositions, you should gather the proponant and mindstorm with them:
- Existing wiki: Since 2008, I already have a wiki for free music. Recently, I have moved it to freemusicwiki.org. It is dedicated to Free Cultural Works as defined by [Freedomdefined.org] and is supposed to become a song book for free music, and also to provide a space for collaborative songwriting. There are two major problems:
- lack of contributors, and
- spamming.
- In order to combat spam, I had to restrict access in the following way: You have to log in in order to edit; and for account creation, you need the anti spam password: 1Nagv2Fcnz3 -- Sloyment (talk) 08:34, 3 May 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose for a few reasons: 1) copyrights for so many songs, 2) existence already of a wiki for this topic (outside of WMF), and 3) narrow scope. SelfieCity (talk) 17:14, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
- To your first argument: The most songs are in the public domain! Music has a big history. Habitator terrae (talk) 17:41, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
- Maybe, but many of the best-known songs of today are of course copyrighted, putting severe restrictions on content that could be included. SelfieCity (talk) 23:12, 14 June 2019 (UTC)
- Question: In what this project would not be redundant with wikisource (or Wikibooks)? It cannot be about music that fell in the public domain, because such thing already exists, even if it is distributed along several Wikisources (e.g. :Che Buò Fa? - 'A Pacchianella (1892) on nap.source or Wikisource:Sheet music on en.source). Music sheets in the public domain are now uploaded to Commons, and the score is written on the relative Wikisource project (even if no text is present, this can be done). --Ruthven (msg) 10:21, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
- Strong support. News lyrics and music in the public domain. In some way, a music wikibook, where all song include music notes (so, edition is in the pentagram). And also Wikisource, for classic music notes, also with pentragram. Also, Mediawiki's free sofware (plug-in) to write pentagram notes. The song could be adapted for the different musical instruments, beginning for the most used: piano, gitar and so on. And in only one proyect / wiki. Good idea!!!.
