Step #3 : Include it on this page.
Step #4 : Add it to the calendar and check for conflicting campaigns in your period for language/geotargeting. Contact the organizers of the other campaigns to solve them!
Step #5 : Notify target projects and geographic affiliates. Add edit diff links to request.
Step #6 : CN Admin & Community feedback [7 days]
Advocacy/Payments: WMF Legal Review [21 days])

The message on the Bistrot of WP:FR is here.

@Myrelionis: As far as I can see, there are some concerns regarding banner campaigns (at all). What is your opinion about that? —DerHexer (Talk) 19:36, 27 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hello @DerHexer this is the first time that @Myrelionis is trying to set up a banner for our Quinzaine des autreices. I dont think they feel comfortable answering yet, they are just trying to do what we have been doing the last years. Maybe you could explain the concerns to them and link to relevent discussions ? Warm regards Natacha LSP (talk) 12:39, 28 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The discussion was linked by them in the first message. I tried to follow the concerns there but I don't feel safe enough to make a decision here if the concerns there are too big that the campaign should not be created. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 12:48, 28 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @DerHexer now i understand better your concerns. @Laugriville et @Myrelionis le message posté sur le bistrot sert à demander l'aval de la communauté sur la Wikipédia francophone, et DerHexer ne peut pas décider seul de valider la bannière ou non. ̴̴̴̴ Natacha LSP (talk) 15:49, 28 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Description - WMDE offers editors of Wikipedia a range of support. This includes but is not limited to trainings, funding for their own projects, organising of events and so on. This support is not known by quite a few volunteers of the German Wikipedia. With this campaign, we want to make people aware of the WMDE community portal. The community portal presents the different aspects of Wikimedia Deutschland's work

Depending on the targeting, users receive a different landing page. The banner, which is aimed at inexperienced users, refers to learning offers from both WMDE and the community. The banner for experienced users refers to a page in the community portal that presents the various training courses.

Metrics -

We hope that the WMDE Community Portal site will become more popular. It is therefore of interest to us that the “News” page in the portal in particular is observed by more users. We will also track whether the campaign has a (positive) influence on the editing behavior of users who we refer to as occasional editors. The tracking is secured by our in-house data unit.

  • @Joris Darlington Quarshie: Unfortunately, we cannot process this request so easily.
    • At first, I'm a little bit confused by the target languages. Do you mean that you will only accept proposals in these languages? Then this should be noted elsewhere. In your current proposal, there would no invitation to any other wiki community besides the ones mentioned. E.g., why shouldn't users from German Wikipedia be allowed to also submit program proposals?
    • The banner message and landing page seem to be English-only. With targeting more languages (with the before-mentioned point even a global audience), more translations would be helpful and the landing page marked for translation. However, with the submission tool being English-only as well, it might make sense to the banner message that the entire process will be English only. Nonetheless, the banner text itself could (and should!) still be multilingual.
    • For that reason I was considering to reuse an earlier banner. I have found the 2024 and 2023 banners but I also remember a design similar to your proposal. Did you use another campaign as an example? In any case, it will be needed to change the year to 2025 and maybe update months so that we can save some time of our translators for the banner text.
    • The landing page leads to another English-only page, eventyay. It is Wikimedia-hosted so that this is okay, but the login link via MediaWiki takes you to an OAuth call that reads “Access private data about you. Access private information.”. I know what OAuth is and what it is asking for. But I also know that there lots of community members who doesn't know it and will be very afraid of sharing any private information to somebody unknown (the link to the privacy policy isn't very helpful here). I know from the OAuth of The Wikipedia Library that some confirmations can even happen without a confirmation but can take place in the background. Maybe it's possible to implement that one here too.
  • That's everything that comes to my mind right now. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 15:35, 22 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@DerHexer, I have changed the target language to all. I am reach out to the developer and Elena for eventyay about the OAuth issue. Once I resolve this issue. I will tag you here. Joris Darlington Quarshie (talk) 15:50, 22 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@DerHexer, I think we can go with this to save time too. Joris Darlington Quarshie (talk) 15:51, 22 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    Hello @DerHexer, With regards to the OAuth call, after a short discussion this was the outcome;
So I know it’s a bit strange but this OAuth login as far as I’m aware has this text no matter what! If you use it to log in to Diff for example, it shows the same text about private info. I remember when we set it up with Wikimedia Space it was the same thing and I thought it was strange then but there we are with the same text 6 years later. Unfortunately this text is stored in the OAuth side of things and as far as I know can’t be changed, though if you know how I’m happy to follow your instructions!
In this case it’s accessing your email, which we’ve detailed in the landing page
In terms of the Wikimania Wiki landing page, I will update that link to be https://wikimedia.eventyay.com/talk/wikimania2025/cfp when the call opens. Joris Darlington Quarshie (talk) 21:14, 22 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Global banner coordination
Please notice that there are three other global campaigns proposed for partly the same period: CentralNotice/Request/Wiki Loves Ramadan 2025, CentralNotice/Request/IWD 2025, CentralNotice/Request/Wiki Loves Africa 2025. Usually, it's on your end to find a good solution to avoid banner overkill. Certainly, Wikimania is a long-established global project and gets some kind of preference. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 16:00, 22 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @DerHexer, Can any of these suggestions be put in place to help resolve this issue: Campaigns Prioritizing, Geotargeting,User Group Targeting,Time Scheduling,Frequency Capping or Banner Rotation. Joris Darlington Quarshie (talk) 16:14, 22 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hya @Joris Darlington Quarshie
Chiming in here (so it's not DerHexer that needs to take this decision about our banners without our input :-): International Women's Day campaign (leading up to this global day on March 8) have coordinated banners with the Wiki Loves Africa photo competition (which runs in March-April) before. IWD for most countries is only ~6 days, except for USA, UK and Australia where it continuous on a low diet because of Woman's History Month there. WLA banners starts earlier than IWD, IWD banners get more weight for the 6 days they are up.
If we coordinate together, I am sure we can also coordinate with your banner. Do you think you landing page will be ready in time? I know from experience how time-tight these things for Wikimania can be.
(Ping for @Ogalihillary fyi) Ciell (talk) 17:16, 22 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The landing page is ready. The only thing which needs to be updated is the eventyay link and translations for the Wikimania wiki page. The call for proposals on eventyay has already been translated from English into 4 different languages: Arabic,French,Spanish and Swahili. Which we are looking forward in opening the call for proposals on Monday 24th Feb .2025 but we want the Central Notice to go out by 27th Feb .2025 - 31st March. 2025. Once the Central Notice is created we can share it with the translators to translate it before 27th Feb 2025. Joris Darlington Quarshie (talk) 20:45, 22 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Joris Darlington Quarshie but 5 weeks is a very long campaign, and we need to balance out our requests. It would be great if you can think of alternatives, for instance 5 days from Feb 25th, and another run for 5 days from March 18th. Would that be an option? Ciell (talk) 10:04, 23 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Ciell, Well noted for your suggestions. I will take this into account and discuss this with the team tomorrow. After we come into conclusion, I will get back to you tomorrow. Joris Darlington Quarshie (talk) 10:23, 23 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps I suggest the other campaigns would be reconsidered to have alternative target such as reduced dates, specific projects (like commons only) and geotagging to specific countries especially the cultural & religion ones. Given that Wikimania encompassed all fields of editor/contributor thematic interest and geography, I hope this be given a preference. -- Exec8 (talk) 01:23, 24 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Ciell and @DerHexer, After series of discussions. We would prefer having the central notice banner up between 7-14 days at the beginning for the call for Program proposals and between 7-14 days at the ending for the call for program proposals. As other banners will also need some visibility as well. We understand these other campaigns will also use other platforms to promote their campaigns as well. So I assume this should fit for all.

We would love to have this start from March 6th, 2025 for the first duration and the second duration ends on March 31st,2025. Please feel free to work around the number of days within what has been provided in this message.
If any of you also have any suggestions or need any clarifications please feel free to share or ask us.

Thank you
Joris Darlington Quarshie (talk) 22:22, 27 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Joris Darlington Quarshie, Exec8, and Ciell: I have created the campaign and banner (English preview).
    • Please provide here as many banner translations as possible (the same applies for the landing page). I have also added a translation link into the banner itself and will try to check the translations status as often as possible so that they can be marked as published.
    • The new eventyay link looks sufficient to me so that I'm not looking for WMF approval for this non-Wikimedia second-step landing page.
    • I've set the start date to Monday, 9 March noon so that the Women‘s Day Campaign can run without disturbances on its celebration day. If that affects your announcements which seem to be scheduled for 6 March, please let me know but I think that this should be the best solution. In compensation, I have increased the priority for the Wikimania program campaign so that it will be always shown ahead of the other campaigns (WLA, WLR, IWD) in its first week. — For the end of March, we have a bit of time for negotiations between the four campaigns, but I would likely go with the same prioritization as for the first term.
  • All in all, please check everything, approve it and ping me so that I can enable the campaign. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 17:47, 28 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Xavier Dengra: Please notice that we didn't include cawikis into this campaign, but your community might still be interested in participating in the global campaign. One of the community members could provide translations of banner and landing page into Catalan before it would be included in the campaign, of course. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 17:53, 28 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@DerHexer, Johannnes89, and Martin Urbanec:, for you attention! Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 15:09, 21 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Too late (just added to CNR yesterday), too long (six weeks, seriously?), a global campaign without ambassadors and without local communication, insufficient banner request with just a logo and no translated banner texts, and so on. I'm inclined to decline the request entirely but will take a closer look into it on the weekend, I'm on a train to the German AdminCon right now. In the meantime, you can already read CentralNotice/Usage guidelines. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 15:31, 21 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @ZI Jony, we have several big campaigns requested to be run in the same time period, with overlapping targets with your campaign. I agree with DerHexer that 6 weeks exposure is not a suitable request. Also, is yours a writing or photography contest? Reading your grant request, and noticing your metrics are focusing on Wikipedia, Wikibooks and Wikivoyage, I would assume the former, and would like to propose to limit your CN campaign to those 3 projects, allowing more room for the Wiki Loves Africa photography contest CN campaign which will be running at the same time. And maybe we start light, and increase visibility (number of impressions) towards the end of the Ramadan for instance? Ciell (talk) 10:20, 23 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
DerHexer and Ciell, Sorry for the late response! We really appreciate your suggestion. I'd suggest three times: in March, two times for one week each, and in April, during the last ten days of the campaign. I've updated the request page. Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 16:22, 24 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@ZI Jony: if you'd like this campaign to go live, we'll need a few more details to create the banner and the campaign.
  • Currently, the banner is only available in 5 languages and the landing page in 11. If you'd like to target 28 languages, please list them and make sure both banner and landing page is available in those languages.
  • Please note that creating, and during the competition: managing, separate campaigns for all 28 languages is a lot of work. Some CN admins do this for global campaigns, but these campaigns in general will have a dedicated person on the team for doing so. Since you have one central landing page already, my proposal would be to create a multilingual banner (the language shown in the banner will depend on the user's preferred MediaWiki interface language) to work with.
  • Please also make sure to read the CentralNotice/Usage_guidelines#Customizing_Banner_Code,_Design_and_Styling on the topic of custom banners, where it reads: "Banners are made with HTML and CSS, not Wikitext." We can take your design in wikicode and transform it, but it might end up looking a bit different from your design.

  • @J ansari, ZI Jony, and Ciell: I have created the campaign and multilingual banner (English preview, can be changed in the URL).
    • I have also transferred all current translations from User:J ansari/Sendbox/2 to the banner and marked them as published. However, I have only included these languages into the campaign settings, because I don't know what the other of the 26 languages might be. Furthermore, I have added a translation link into the banner itself. Please submit as many translations as possible to the banner here (there is no need to do that on the user subpage anymore) and landing page.
    • I can add more languages to the campaign at any time when you tell me which ones. For me, the campaign is ready to go, I have set the date for 10 to 16 March; let us know about the other dates.
  • All in all, please check everything, approve it and ping me so that I can enable it. — And please, next time start preparations earlier and reach out to CentralNotice admins as soon as possible. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 17:04, 28 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Bodhisattwa: I have created the campaign and banner (English, Bangla, Santali preview). However, both the banner text and landing page translation for Santali seem to be missing. I wouldn't enable the campign for this language without that. Furthermore, according to the usage guidelines we expect local notifications of target communities, especially for campaigns longer than two weeks (thus, shortening the duration might also be of consideration). If possible, please reach out in advance at least to the larger projects (English Wikipedia, Commons). Take a look at the preparations, approve them and ping me so that I can activate it when the remaining points have been completed. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 11:20, 22 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@DerHexer:: apologies for the delay as we were preparing for the requirements mentioned above.
  • The campaign looks fine.
  • The English banner looks fine.
  • Regarding the Bengali banner, it looks like you have mistakenly added it to Hindi instead of Bengali.
  • We have prepared the Santali banner text. The banner will look something like this

ᱥᱩᱱᱫᱚᱨᱵᱟᱱ ᱠᱷᱚᱱ ᱦᱤᱢᱟᱞᱚᱭ ᱫᱷᱟᱹᱵᱤᱡ:
ᱵᱮᱝᱜᱚᱞ ᱴᱚᱴᱷᱟ ᱨᱮᱱᱟᱜ ᱯᱟᱹᱴᱷᱩᱣᱟᱹ ᱠᱚᱣᱟᱜ ᱪᱤᱛᱟᱹᱨ ᱠᱚ ᱪᱤᱛᱟᱹᱨ ᱢᱮ ᱟᱨ ᱱᱟᱯᱟᱭ ᱥᱤᱨᱯᱷᱟᱹ ᱠᱚ ᱡᱤᱛᱠᱟᱹᱨ ᱢᱮ!

  • The landing page on Commons is enabled for translations for the Santali language. As the Santali community is quite small, it might take some time to translate the entire page.
  • Wikimedia Commons community has been notified here.
  • English Wikipedia community has been notified here.
I hope, this fulfills all the requirements. -- Bodhisattwa (talk) 08:08, 26 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Bodhisattwa: Apologies for being stupid. xD I have deleted the Hindi version and published the Bangla text. I have also added the text to the Santali translation. However, I'm still linking this banner to the English version until a Santali landing page will be available (please ping me when this is completed). Please check the updates previews above again, but I have already enabled the campaign. Everything else looks good to me, thank you. :) Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 19:00, 27 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Description - The Wikimedia Foundation wants to celebrate International Women’s Day by celebrating the volunteers who are closing gender gaps on our projects. This banner will send people to a landing page that celebrates women who are making our projects more equitable. We believe that by showcasing these volunteers to an average Wikipedia reader, we can also increase their understanding of how volunteers edit and maintain our projects, increasing general awareness and affinity towards Wikipedia and its volunteer model.

Metrics - Success of the campaign will be measured by clicks redirecting to the campaign’s landing page on wikimediafoundation.org. Ciell (talk) will coordinate on this banner with WMF. Ciell (talk) 08:46, 12 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Johannnes89 can you support me with a banner code review, because this is all personal design? The proposed banner is here, the translated versions for French and the English/Swahili for Kenya are here. Thanks! Ciell (talk) 08:47, 20 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Ciell when I initially opened the banner preview [6] it looked like this [7] but I couldn't reproduce this error, all other previews (using Vector 2022, Vector and Minerva and different browsers) correctly displayed the banner. The flexible display depending on screen width also works as intended. I don't see any issues with the banner code. Johannnes89 (talk) 09:05, 20 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Johannnes89 , I'll forward the preview to WMF. Which device/browser was this? Ciell (talk) 09:11, 20 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Safari (MacBook Pro). But this preview didn't occur again, so it was probably just a one-time loading error. Johannnes89 (talk) 09:14, 20 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

We were going to use the general banner for Wiki Loves Folklore, but our analysis of today is that the current banner is not gaining traction to the contest for Brazilians. The campaign was created here. Please check and approve. -- Samat (talk) 16:45, 9 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

If you think it works properly, I can enable. At the same time, I would remove the Hungarian language from the WLF countries, the WLF non-countries, and from the WLF anon campaigns (not the country, only the language target!). Let me know if you see any problem with this. Samat (talk) 16:51, 9 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Samat The banner looks consistent with the global banner. In the campaign, the end time you provided "22:59" instead of "23:59". Apart from that, other things look correct to me. But, I cannot help asking you the question that's itching my mind, " You are the only person here (other than me). So, whom did you refer to as You in the prevous question? Although English is not my first language, so I might be wrong to interpret. Since you have the central notice admin right on yourself, you can go ahead and do the honor. Nokib Sarkar (talk) 09:03, 10 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for checking it! I meant with you everyone, who would like to check the settings of the campaign, but especially the other CentralNotice admins. I am (we are) not the only one here :) About the time: I did it on purpose because it is in UTC, which means 23:59 is already 59 minutes after midnight in Central Europe. But I made the mistake of not taking into account daylight saving time, which starts on March 30th, so I changed the end time to 21:59 now. Samat (talk) 21:08, 10 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
After consultation, I have changed my mind and I added the English language to this local campaign and removed Hungary from the international campaign. This way, people from Hungary will generally see the notice and local page in the Hungarian language. Samat (talk) 22:15, 10 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Description - Wiki Loves Folklore, an annual international photography contest hosted on Wikimedia Commons from February 1st to March 31st, serves as a global initiative to amass a diverse collection of media. The primary objective is to contribute content to Wikipedia and other online platforms, all under free licenses. The contest focuses on capturing and showcasing unique images that represent and document the intangible cultural heritage of various communities worldwide.

Structured with both national coordinators and an International Team, the campaign ensures comprehensive coverage. National coordinators, responsible for organizing Wiki Loves Folklore within their respective countries, play a vital role in fostering local participation. Simultaneously, the International Team steps in to organize the contest in countries lacking designated national coordinators, thereby addressing the representation gap within the Wikimedia ecosystem.

As requested in CentralNotice/Request/Wiki Loves Folklore 2025 -- Kaim Amin (talk) 10:26, 29 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Kaim Amin Please note that last year, the Bengali Wikipedia community reached a consensus against displaying this Folklore banner on bnwiki.
Kindly ensure that the banner is not shown on bnwiki unless there is a new community consensus explicitly supporting its display. খাত্তাব হাসান (talk) 17:19, 31 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@খাত্তাব হাসান, kindly explain to us why is "Folklore" banner not allowed to display on Bengali wikipedia projects?. WLF and FNF both projects were organised successfully by the Bengali community last year and even this year they are all set and ready. Tiven2240 (talk) 18:51, 31 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Tiven2240 There is no problem with displaying the banner for the Feminism and Folklore 2025 article writing contest. However, there is currently no community consensus to show the WLFB contest banner (this specific banner). For further details on the reasoning behind this decision, please refer to the linked community discussion. খাত্তাব হাসান (talk) 19:42, 31 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@খাত্তাব হাসান WLFBD is a Wikimedia commons project related to photography. The users via this banner are landed on Wikimedia Commons and not Bangla Wikipedia. This Banner clearly mentions that it will run in Bangladesh and not only on Bangla Wikipedia. That means any user irrespective of any Wiki Language edition accessing Wiki projects in Bangladesh user can see this Banner and go to Commons to upload. I dont see this discussed in the link shared as consensus, If this was discussed please share extract. Tiven2240 (talk) 19:57, 31 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Tiven2240 I’m really sorry for sharing the diff URL earlier. Here’s the archived URL: https://w.wiki/CuEL. খাত্তাব হাসান (talk) 20:30, 31 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Please note that this was last year's decision about the folklore commons photo contest banner organized by two banned wikimedians. There is no consensus to show the folklore commons photo contest banner on Bangla Wikipedia. (However, note also there is no restriction on organising and giving banner for feminism and folklore wikipedia article writing competition on Bangla wikipedia.) Nettime Sujata (talk) 16:58, 1 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Tiven2240 It doesn't matter whether users via this banner are banned on Wikimedia Commons or not, the community consensus is not to show this banner on Bangla Wikipedia at all. Kindly set the banner accordingly. খাত্তাব হাসান (talk) 21:21, 31 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@খাত্তাব হাসান I don't know if you read my previous messages well. It clearly seems that there is a false claim in the name of community consensus here. There is no indication on the pages that the event WLFBD or FNFBD is banned on Bangla wiki. Both the events are running successfully and that gives us motivation to run the banner in Bangladesh region irrespective of any Wiki Project like commons/wiki/etc. My sincere request is to keep local disputes on local level. We are here for the successful implementation of the project and request your cooperation. Feel free to have a meeting with us by dropping an email at support wikilovesfolklore.org. Admins at Central Notice to take final decision on this. Thank you for understanding. Tiven2240 (talk) 04:33, 1 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Kaim Amin There is no community consensus to display this banner on bnwiki. I am just passing along this message. If you believe my claim is incorrect, feel free to verify by asking at bn:উইকিপিডিয়া:আলোচনাসভা (Village pump) or bn:উইকিপিডিয়া:প্রশাসকদের আলোচনাসভা (admin noticeboard).
I kindly request the CentralNotice administrators to respect our local community consensus. খাত্তাব হাসান (talk) 10:43, 1 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Kaim Amin:   Done. Best wishes for the organizing. Nokib Sarkar (talk) 17:55, 1 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Nokib Sarkar I don’t see the point... how is this a "clarification" when the organizers are the same as last year and their ban has not been lifted? She merely pointed out that we have no issue with the original/main WLF banner, not this one. খাত্তাব হাসান (talk) 19:16, 1 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Joris Darlington Quarshie: Hello! Can you change the banner page for Ukraine to Commons:Commons:Wiki Loves Folklore 2025 in Ukraine?

@Joris Darlington Quarshie and OlenaVinsent (WMUA): Ping corrected; didn't work without a signature. I think that a separate request will be needed. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 23:14, 3 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@DerHexer I submitted a separate application CentralNotice/Request/Wiki Loves Folklore 2025 Ukraine that will lead to our page. I would be grateful for the processing. OlenaVinsent (WMUA) (talk) 12:06, 6 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, @DerHexer, @Joris Darlington Quarshie
For March 2025, we are trying to coordinate 3 (potentially 4) global banners. Two of these banners have local organizers in the countries they will be targeting, the third on is a global call for program submissions for Wikimania.
By having the non-participant banner enabled on for all wikiprojects in all languages all over the world, it feels like Wiki Loves Folklore is claiming banner space that should be available for other campaigns. So again, same request as in 2024 and in 2023: please let's not run repetitive cycles for projects, countries or languages that don't participate - especially no repetitive cycles lasting 2 months. Thanks, Ciell (talk) 17:44, 22 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ciell,
I hope you're doing well.
Please find the list of participating countries here. We understand that multiple banners are scheduled for March, and we are open to a lighter presence in the initial days of the month. However, we kindly request that the banner not be entirely disabled, as its visibility is crucial for the campaign’s outreach.
Additionally, Wiki Loves Folklore has a global Feminism and Folklore initiative, which holds similar significance to International Women’s Day campaigns. While it is the largest organized event on Wikipedia, involving over 51 language communities, we have intentionally chosen not to run global banners to avoid excessive banner space usage.
We kindly request you to consider the potential impact on the campaign due to these changes and explore a balanced approach that ensures visibility while addressing space concerns.
Thank you for your time and consideration. Looking forward to your thoughts. Tiven2240 (talk) 02:15, 23 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Though I understand and appreciate your F&F initiative, the idea behind centralizing one page for all events world-wide around International Women's Day, is that we'll have less banners active and there is a place for everyone to make sure people are aware of what they are organizing, and to not have campaigns on the same topic competing over the Central Notice space. What if we setup a cycle for recurring after 2 weeks, instead of every week? From experience with WLM, we know that most traffic from the banners comes at the start of the CN campaign, and again at the end of the competition. The weeks in the middle in comparison don't create a lot of traffic or uploads. Ciell (talk) 10:10, 23 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi all,
Just a quick comment that we have fundraising banners in both Brazil and Italy during the weeks this campaign is up. As usual, this would mean that the WIki Loves Folklore banners will be shown to non logged in users once they have seen all their fundraising banner impressions. We do not show fundraising banners to logged in users. Let me know if there are any questions. Best, JBrungs (WMF) (talk) 06:07, 24 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Since NL received only 2 images through this banner in the past month, I think the banner is ineffective for my country so I have removed this target from the list.
Per my previous suggestion, I have lowered the overall diet for on-participating countries to once every 2 weeks. Ciell (talk) 09:17, 28 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Johannnes89: could you please check this again? best --Christian Philipp (WMAT) (talk) 10:57, 28 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the ping @Christian Philipp (WMAT)! We appreciate if @Manfred Werner (WMAT) creates the campaign & banner via the CentralNotice interface, once Meta:Requests for CentralNotice adminship/Manfred Werner (WMAT) is successful. It just needs approval from volunteer CN admins per CentralNotice/Usage guidelines#Policies for Affiliates and WMF Staff, but can be created & managed by yourself.
Per CentralNotice/Usage guidelines campaigns running longer than two weeks usually require community approval. Even if this is an established campaign, the unusually long duration should be discussed with the de(-AT) community.
Personally I think the duration might be ok, if the banner is running on a low impression diet and with limited traffic, in order to make sure it doesn't annoy editors (and readers) again and again for many weeks... Johannnes89 (talk) 18:40, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Johannnes89: @Christian Philipp (WMAT): I have written a notification to the community on de.wikipedia for this banner and also for the second campaign in January (CentralNotice/Request/GLAM digital spring) at Wikipedia:Projektdiskussion. As I am new to this I am not sure how to ask for approval from volunteer CN admins (I could ping some from the list of admins, but I don't know who is active). --Manfred Werner (WMAT) (talk) 12:56, 9 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. You can create both the banner as well as the campaign via the CN admin interface. Once you link the created campaign & banner on this page, volunteer CN admins can take a look. If no-one reacts, you can ping one of the active CN admins mentioned at CentralNotice/Request, preferably (or Ciell who is not on the list, but also active and very helpful as well). Johannnes89 (talk) 19:06, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have changed the start date of the campaign in January from 1st to 7th, also talked about it with Christian. It's because I am on vacation around new year's eve and have very limited internet access in this time, so it would be difficult to act if there are issues with the banner or the campaign. --Manfred Werner (WMAT) (talk) 13:22, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Manfred Werner (WMAT): Banner is activated, thanks. There was a problem last year with the banner conflicting with coordinates at the upper right corner of a page (difficult to see, not clickable), which I thought, I have fixed by adding some extra empty space below the banner. But obviously this does not work. Do you have a better idea to fix this? best --Christian Philipp (WMAT) (talk) 10:03, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The campaign settings have been set [12] and the banner created [13]. CN admins, please take a look and let me know if it is alright like this. It's the first time I created a CN. Thank you! --Manfred Werner (WMAT) (talk) 15:36, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Martin Urbanec:@Vermont: Hi, as I am new to this and also that kind of CN admin who is here in the role of a representative of an affiliate, I need and would like to ask you to take a look at the two campaigns I have set up - if they are alright (also technically, I am not sure about the close button here) and can be activated. Thank you! --Manfred Werner (WMAT) (talk) 17:37, 18 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good to me. I don't see a close button in the CN interface preview for some reason, but it works in the onwiki preview [14].
Restarting the banner cycle every week effectively means users will see the banner 12 times which seems a bit much to me. I suggest either limiting it to two impressions per cycle (= 8 total impressions in 3,5 weeks) or extending the cycle a bit, e.g. to 67435200 seconds (1.5 weeks -> 9 total impressions). Johannnes89 (talk) 11:49, 30 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I have reduced the maximum impressions to two.
So, I am just asking again because I am new to this, what should be done now? Will someone activate the campaign?
There is also another one I created that should have begun today, CentralNotice/Request/GLAM digital spring, but is still marked as open. --Manfred Werner (WMAT) (talk) 16:46, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I've activated the campaign, giving my approval as a volunteer CN admin.
I suggest trying to ping volunteer CN admins again for the GLAM request (those without ties to WMF or affiliates like WMDE). Perhaps checking the different CN logs [15] helps finding someone active. The backlog at CNR suggests, that most volunteer CN admins are currently busy, but given that it's just about approving the banner + campaign you created, there should be somebody who can spend 5 minutes to do that. I have two questions regarding the banner:

  • is it possible to only show the banner on, let's say, 5th refresh on the projects? We don't want to spam the users with the banner on every page, if possible; if not, showing on every page is fine.
  • this banner is almost definitely not dark mode compatible - can someone help me with that?

Thank you very much, KormiSK (talk) 21:24, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

We already have WMF approval and agreements signed.--Jetam2 (talk) 21:25, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

We'd like to continue the campaign from last year (request). The banner will only be running for two days before the first Wednesday of each month, and will be targeted to users with less than 100 edits.

I can handle the administration of this banner myself, no intervention necessary from other CN admins. :-) Jon Harald Søby (WMNO) (talk) 13:12, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
