Dichiarazione congiunta di enti e persone del movimento Wikimedia sull'attuale situazione in Palestina, 7 aprile 2024

Noi, i sottoscritti individui e gruppi di Wikimedia, esprimiamo la nostra profonda preoccupazione per l'attuale crisi umanitaria che affligge la popolazione palestinese sotto la responsabilità dello stato di Israele, e in particolare le numerose morti, la devastazione dell'infrastruttura e la grave carenza di cibo della striscia di Gaza. Esprimiamo profonda preoccupazione per la sicurezza e il benessere degli attivisti del movimento Wikimedia e suoi alleati all'interno del territorio palestinese sotto assedio. Assicurare la sicurezza e il benessere degli individui alla base del mondo della conoscenza libera è prioritario; la conoscenza non può essere libera se richiede il sacrificio della sicurezza umana.

Nelle parole del compianto Desmond Tutu, "Se resti neutrale in una situazione di ingiustizia, hai scelto la parte dell'oppressore". In linea con il nostro impegno a sostenere la dignità umana e la giustizia, promuoviamo fermanente la pace e una risoluzione equa.

In segno di solidarietà, alcuni dei sottoscritti gruppi hanno adottato i colori della bandiera palestinese all'interno dei rispettivi loghi, seguendo l'iniziativa della comunità della Wikipedia in arabo, come simbolo di sostegno a seguire la giornata di azione del dicembre 2023.

Invitiamo tutti i gruppi Wikimedia, affiliati, alleati e volontari a unirsi in solidarietà con l'umanità e a pretendere un cessate il fuoco immediato e duraturo per interrompere la tragica perdita di vite umane e la distruzione della memoria culturale palestinese. Inoltre, invitiamo la Wikimedia Foundation a intraprendere misure proattive per assicurare la sicurezza di volontari, comunità, alleati, istituzioni della conoscenza e della memoria in Palestina che contribuiscono alla diffusione della conoscenza.

Richiediamo urgentemente che la Wikimedia Foundation dia priorità alla diffusione neutrale di informazione, nonché alla documentazione accurata e tempestiva dell'attuale disastro umanitario di origine umana e della distruzione di memoria culturale.
