About the meetup

edit

This is intended to include any interested Wikimedians who find themselves in Aberdeen or can make their way to Aberdeen on the day. Anyone who has attended previous meetups in Aberdeen - or Scotland generally - are encouraged to return to meet new faces! It will be a social gathering for Wikimedia enthusiasts, where we...

  • Have a cup of tea, coffee, or other soft drink, and a snack 9kindly sponsored by Wikimedia UK)
  • Chat about Wikipedia and any other topics we fancy!
  • Explore how we can encourage others to engage with Wikipedia and arrangements for future Aberdeen Wiki meet-ups.
  • Maybe edit a few Wikipedia articles or contribute to other Wiki projects.

This is mainly a casual social event. You can expect to meet some very keen Wikipedians and some newbies. However this is an open invitation to anyone interested in finding out more about Wikipedia, other Wikimedia projects such as Wikidata or Wiki Commons, projects re-using Wikipedia, and other collaborative wiki projects. Feel free to come along and raise these discussions!

We intend to host the event every month, always on the fourth Monday evening of the month, starting at 18:30. However people are free to arrive later or leave early, it is a relaxed social event.

Our venue will be Code The City's new HQ in the city centre. The building is going through refurbishment. For now we will use the downstairs space - which means a steep flight of steps. CTC is working on a funding bid for better access which they hope to fix as soon as they can raise the necessary funds. There is a doorbell on the front door which is up two steps.

The Soap Factory, 111 Gallowgate, Aberdeen

The Soap Factory is located on the 11, 18, and 727 bus routes, and very near to the 19 bus route. There are linking bus connections from Aberdeen Railway Station and Bus Stations for those travelling from outside Aberdeen. There is a large carpark across the street. We will be able to accommodate bicycles inside the venue. There is good WiFi and plenty of room to meet and have a chat, and a decent sized screen for demonstrating new skills and techniques or what we have been up to.

Attendees
