Edinburgh Wikimedia Meetup Number 20

The meetup will be an informal gathering with no formal agenda, but please feel free to add any topics that you'd like to raise for discussion.

About the meetup

This is intended to include any interested Wikimedians who find themselves in Edinburgh or can make their way to Edinburgh on the day. Anyone who has attended previous meetups in Glasgow or Edinburgh encouraged to return to meet new faces! It will be a social gathering for Wikimedia enthusiasts, where we...

• Have a bite to eat and a drink.
• Chat about Wikipedia and any other topics we fancy!
• Explore how we can encourage others to engage with Wikipedia and arrangements for future Edinburgh Wiki meetups.
• Maybe edit a few Wikipedia articles or contribute to other Wiki projects.

This is mainly a casual social event. You can expect to meet some very keen Wikipedians and some newbies. However this is an open invitation to anyone interested in finding out more about Wikipedia, other Wikimedia projects, projects re-using Wikipedia, and other collaborative wiki projects. Feel free to come along and raise these discussions!

We intend to host the event on every second month, always on the last Saturday of the month, starting at 11:30 am. However people are free to arrive later or leave early, it is a relaxed social event.

Although the location opens at 11:00 am the event will start a little later at 11:30 so the cafe's staff have some time to setup after opening.

Location

The Shrub Coop cafe (Zero Waste Hub) is extremely accessible via train for those travelling from outside the city via Waverley station, and via bus for Edinburgh residents. It offers food, drinks, and WiFi and gives us plenty of room to meet and have a chat.

Despite its likely future closing/relocation it will still be at is current location until at least the end of April. As such we will still be meeting at this location for the March meetup.

I would note that https://www.shrubcoop.org/news says they are closing the Cafe and their website has the text "Our venue in Bread St will close down before April", so that might mean the Shrub Coop cafe closes before the 29th of March.       1. I have confirmed with the Shrub that they will still be open and ready for us on 29 March. Beyond the end of April however is less certain and it seems like they might either move location or close after May 2025. So we will still be meeting at the Shrub for this meetup but we will need to discuss where to meet next time. Discott (talk) 17:19, 16 March 2025 (UTC)
