Global rename

Global rename is not really a global user right. I think the place user requests for this flag should be changed to Meta:Requests for adminship.--GZWDer (talk) 05:17, 17 September 2014 (UTC)

Not relevant: it has global effects and belongs to SRGP. Besides, even "steward" used to be a "local" group; maybe global rename will at some point need to become a global group. --Nemo 06:26, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
Factual correction: The local steward group is still in use. The "global effect" logic is also not clear to me, as CN admin and massmessage sender rights are also not to be requested on a "Global permissions" page. Vogone (talk) 08:56, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
I didn't say it isn't, but it's also global now. CN doesn't make edits/actions and massmessage only does edits any unregistered user could make. Global rename is in fact an escalation of privileges traditionally held locally by no less than bureaucrats... the distinction may be a bit fuzzy and it's not set in stone, but it's sufficiently clear to warrant SRGP I think. --Nemo 09:01, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
Hm, I thought "used to be" was an indicator for the past. Sorry if I misunderstood that then. Vogone (talk) 16:19, 17 September 2014 (UTC)

We need help with the structure in the Spanish Wiktionary

it's about the lack of the edit option in main entries (languages) and the subordinates (etymology 1, 2, etc.)
which basically means we are now forced to open the entire page every time we need to make a little change somewhere.
for new users it's annoying, for active users it's just mind crippling (and I'm being polite).

take the example "a" in the Spanish Wiktionary. there are 18 entries with up to 5 etymologies each... now picture an active user, who's already trying not to forget a big list of things to do... and then he has to work around this?

the topic is recurrent, but we always give up because the whole Spanish Wiktionary bases on the Template:XX-ES, and there is apparently no way to add an edit option to it.

does somebody have the time to look into it? we would be grateful!

If you want to be able to edit the pages, you'll have to write only section titles with the templates. You can't write the sections in templates (with <h3> or ===) if you want to edit the pages.
We used to have the same issue on fr: (and with every sections!), this is what we did:
Old fr Current fr

{{=xx=}}

== {{langue|xx}} ==

So I suggest you do this:
Current es Suggested es

{{ES}}

= {{lengua|ES}} =

{{XX-ES}}

= {{lengua|XX}} =

PS : using one template for all languages helps for migrating from the old layout, and it also means that only one template is required for every language (this is written in Lua, with a list of languages behind, see wikt:fr:Modèle:langue, wikt:fr:Module:langues and wikt:fr:Module:langues/data). thx for the help! :)
i hope, we can work with that --Ninud (talk) 11:39, 18 September 2014 (UTC)

2014 Global South User Survey

Hi everyone. My colleagues and I at the WMF have been planning the run a Global South User survey during the fall of 2014. You may take a look at the background, goals, and target countries and languages at the survey page. You may also take a look at the questions, and help translate them if you know any of the target languages. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! --HaithamS (WMF) (talk) 16:33, 16 September 2014 (UTC)

@HaithamS (WMF):, would you like to share your survey plans on wikimedia-l? I noticed this announcement just by coincidence. Or did you announce it on other mailing lists? --Jcornelius (talk) 11:37, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
+1 to Jcornelius. @HaithamS (WMF): would you mind if I share this with AffCom and also with Mexicans and Argentinians to try to get feedback prior to application of the survey ? Salvador (talk) 04:57, 19 September 2014 (UTC)

Absolutely not. Please feel free to share around wherever it seems to be adequate. Thank you!--HaithamS (WMF) (talk) 14:42, 20 September 2014 (UTC)

Graphs on Meta & Mediawiki.org

Graph extension has been enabled here on meta and mediawiki.org to give users a chance to experiment with it before/if we launch it on all wikis. See examples, description, and comments here. --Yurik (WMF) (talk) 21:39, 23 September 2014 (UTC)

Suppressing Wiki Loves Monuments?

Is there some code for Global CSS/Global JS to suppress the Wiki Loves Monuments bar across all wikis? Thanks! It Is Me Here t / c 12:18, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

@It Is Me Here: Add #wlm-banner {display: none;} to your Special:Mypage/global.css. --Glaisher (talk) 15:40, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
