Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Achomi

submitted verification final decision

Discuss the creation of this language project on this page. Votes will be ignored when judging the proposal. Please provide arguments or reasons and be prepared to defend them (see the Language proposal policy).

The language committee needs to verify the language is eligible to be approved.

  • Check that the project does not already exist (see list).
  • Obtain an ISO 639 code
  • Ensure the requested language is sufficiently unique that it could not exist on a more general wiki.
  • Ensure that there are a sufficient number of native editors of that language to merit an edition in that language.

    This proposal is on hold:

The language represented by the code lrl is probably eligible, but there is practically no content in the Incubator, and there are a lot of arguments here, and also at w:en:Talk:Achomi language about what this language and its name are supposed to be. Please form an editing community and decide about these things. After that, the request can be reconsidered. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Amire80 (talk) 2024-10-10 (UTC)
  • The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
  • The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
  • The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:
What Value Example / Explanation
Proposal
Language code lrl (SILGlottolog) A valid ISO 639-1 or 639-3 language code, like "fr", "de", "nso", ...
Language name Achomi Language name in English
Language name اچمی Language name in your language. This will appear in the language list on Special:Preferences, in the interwiki sidebar on other wikis, ...
Language Wikidata item Q4699526 - item has currently the following values:
Item about the language at Wikidata. It would normally include the Wikimedia language code, name of the language, etc. Please complete at Wikidata if needed.
Directionality RTL Is the language written from left to right (LTR) or from right to left (RTL)?
Links Links to previous requests, or references to external websites or documents.

Settings
Project name "Wikipedia" in your language
Project namespace usually the same as the project name
Project talk namespace "Wikipedia talk" (the discussion namespace of the project namespace)
Enable uploads no Default is "no". Preferably, files should be uploaded to Commons.
If you want, you can enable local file uploading, either by any user ("yes") or by administrators only ("admin").
Notes: (1) This setting can be changed afterwards. The setting can only be "yes" or "admin" at approval if the test creates an Exemption Doctrine Policy (EDP) first. (2) Files on Commons can be used on all Wikis. (3) Uploading fair-use images is not allowed on Commons (more info). (4) Localisation to your language may be insufficient on Commons.
Optional settings
Project logo This needs to be an SVG image (instructions for logo creation).
Default project timezone Asia/Tehran "Continent/City", e.g. "Europe/Brussels" or "America/Mexico City" (see list of valid timezones)
Additional namespaces For example, a Wikisource would need "Page", "Page talk", "Index", "Index talk", "Author", "Author talk".
Additional settings Anything else that should be set
Once settings are finalized, a committee member will submit a Phabricator task requesting creation of the wiki. (This will include everything automatically, except the additional namespaces/settings.) After the task is created, it should be linked to in a comment under "final decision" above.

Hello @Achomia:, currently incubator:Wp/lrl doesn't have anything, you need to start that test project before continuing anything here. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 09:08, 13 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose, aco is invalid as this code doesn't exist. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 02:00, 12 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Agree. --117.136.54.21 23:01, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As I said at Talk:Language_committee, the easiest solution is to take lrl as the code, which has a population of three million or 210,000, according to Wikipedia, and not worry about two dialects with less than 10,000 speakers each. I don't know anything about whether the distinction between language and dialect here are controversial, but there are many cases where we have multiple projects for what some would consider dialects; English and Scots, Egyptian Arabic and Standard Arabic, Serbian and Croatian, etc. The fact that you see them as one language isn't necessarily going to rule here.--Prosfilaes (talk) 11:30, 25 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Oppose ! The point is not to sacrifice the whole as a whole; as I said before, the lrl code is one of the dialects of the Achomi language, not the name of the whole language; Secondly, the aco code will only be used for the wiki project and the necessary references will still be to lrl (as long as the file naming error files are reviewed by those websites) So aco is the only Achomi Wikipedia prefix, not just reject lrl (still referenced)Tashbad (talk) 15:12, 25 July 2020 (UTC).[reply]

Your suggestion violates what LPP said, please do not do so anymore. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 20:57, 25 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Liuxinyu970226 No, as if you do not realize or that prejudice has blinded your eyes!

aco will be just the project wiki code. The reference to the inappropriate lrl code is still ongoing.

If you are sure that lrl should be a language independent of Achomi then request to create it but you have no right to disrupt Achomi Wikipedia! I warn you for the last time, Stop sabotage! Achomia (talk) 07:18, 26 July 2020 (UTC).[reply]

@Achomia: You don't need to "warn for the last time, Stop sabotage", because you're the man who don't discuss but make edit wars, the actual man to stop is you, not me. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 14:43, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
