Wikibooks-nl

edit

Hello Az1568,

Wikibooks-nl is an active community (5 active sysops), besides is the Dutch community big enough to handle all their projects. We don't need a watchdog, who is not speaking our language. We can handle our own affairs. Kind regards Londenp 07:25, 16 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Londenp, I'm sure that Wikibooks-nl has a great and active community, but just because we are called the Small Wiki Monitoring Team doesn't mean that we only monitor small projects. If you haven't already please take a look at the SWMT's definition of small. Also our team is made up of many different users who are able to speak other languages, so hopefully a language barrier won't be that much of a problem. : ) --Az1568 08:23, 16 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Slight vandalism on mi

edit

Hi. Saw that you recently created an account on mi and that you are a member of the monitoring team. There was an instance of spamming on mi:W/w/index.php - I have blanked it and protected it so that you can take a look at the original edit, and blocked the user IP. Mi: is effectively Bureaucrat-less, so any advice would be appreciated. We don't get a lot of vandalism luckily. Cheers Kahuroa 18:48, 25 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Az1568, I've removed the files your marked for deletion on kl: (Greenlandic Wikipedia), but didn't edit MediaWiki:Sitesupportpage, since that page doesn't appear to exist on e.g. en: - did you mean "MediaWiki:Sitesupport" or some other page? - Kaare 21:33, 10 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi!

edit

Thanks for showing up in pms :) we do have occasional attacks. People kind of try to deface the site by entering a "W/index.php" page. Not a big deal, but annoying :) That's as much as we got, this far. Some less relevant activity was about copying material from it.wiki, but that looks more like "political noise" and happened just twice, as far as I remember. Let us know if there's any help we can give you :) --Bèrto 'd Sèra 13:01, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello (Salam), I was just welcoming you to the Chechen Wikipedia, saw you have signed up. I am a beaurucrat there, I have been beating up the Vandals lately. There have been a numerous amounts of vandalism on MediaWiki pages always saying nice job, check out my site and it was listed by different IP's whom I blocked all coming from Russia (after www.whois.sc them). Maybe you can do something about it? It is everyday the frequency and it is rather annoying while worrying about other things on the wiki. "Asosiy:" at wikiuz_p?

edit

I wonder if you might be able to address my question in the Uzbek Vikipediya as to the reason for the prefixing of "Asosiy:" to (virtually?) all interlinguistic links as well as certain others (e.g. in the NewPages list). I created a stopgap dummy to get back to the English Wikipedia from the Uzbek mainpage, and also to get to my Esperanto userpage from my Uzbek one, but surely this sort of piecemeal solution is not the way to go. But I can't seem to raise a live body at the Uzbek wiki to even tell me what's going on let alone do anything about it. --Haruo 09:42, 14 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Interesting.. Do you have any examples? as I can't seem to find any pages with an Asosiy: prefix. Also, you should try asking one of the dev's (Brion or Tim) as they may be able to answer your question better than I can.--Az1568 19:26, 18 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

An offering for our new administrator from your comrades... (our budget is smaller than Commons)

Az1568, congratulations! You now have the rights of administrator on Meta. Please take a moment to read the Meta:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat, and Meta:Requests_for_deletion, but also Talk:Spam_blacklist and Talk:Interwiki_map), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings, or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care.

A tip: add this page Meta:Administrators' discussion index to your watchlist, it tracks the latest activity to various sections of many of the important pages.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-admin @ irc.freenode.net. You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading although it doesn't always completely apply here at Meta.

Please also check or add your entry to Meta:Administrators#List_of_administrators and the Template:List of administrators.

However I have to add that this one really does please me. Thanks for all your work in the past and I look forward to working together on Meta :) Cheers --Herby talk thyme 08:10, 26 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi

You'll have better luck in your Babelbox on :fy: if instead of

{{User en}}
{{User fy-0}}

you use the syntax

{{Meidogger/Taal en}}
{{Meidogger/Taal fy-0}}

I might have made the change for you, but the first and last time I tried something like that, somebody got all bent out of shape. I considered transcoding the templates into your preferred name, but there were only two of you redlinked to the :en: syntax. Plus as soon as we get over 10.000 pages, you won't care about us any more! I don't know if templates count, but I'm not taking any chances.

Hope all is good & just noticed the SWMT bit about newbies? I know I'm "new" but new again (!) is that ok? I've been following some spammers cross wiki (& learning some languages :)) - cheers --Herby talk thyme 07:19, 29 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hey. :D Yeah, the reformat kinda came along with the introduction of the global groups. (I think you'd be fine in either the active or new section...it sorta has an IRC use pov to it, to be honest.) It's to give us (and stewards) a bit of insight on how active users are in the SWMT, for example assigning global rights or if we wanted to find someone to discuss current crosswiki issues with. --Az1568 07:38, 29 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
At present I tend to be following bot reported link placement FWIW & I think I'm "active" on 70+ projects. When I'm around I tend to take a look at RC tho finding somewhere to report something can be a challenge :) (I tend to ask Comet!). Global rollback would be very useful & if/when anything happens to global blocking other than stewards.....:) --Herby talk thyme 07:42, 29 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
*nods* It's always great to have Comets around :) I'd say he's a real asset to the crosswiki team. Global rollback is one of the more exciting new features...SUL has sorta lost it's "newness" for us at least (Can't think of a proper word atm ;) ) GR policy/implementation is currently being discussed on the stew list and foundation-l as of a few days ago, since we never had anything like it before. :) --Az1568 07:56, 29 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Spamming recentchanges on dawiki

edit

What are all those deletions on dawiki about? --Palnatoke (this is not my primary wiki, so please contact me on dawiki) 05:29, 31 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello Palnatoke. I asked Az1568 to help delete the old 'boardvote' messages to prepare for the 2008 board elections. These messages are now implemented in localization files and translated on translatewiki.net, so that they are much easier to translate and update, and every user will see their preferred language no matter where they vote from. The translations have been updated and moved into the localization files, but the old messages on various wikis are overriding these and will display incorrect information to voters in the election starting tomorrow unless they are deleted.
I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused by the deletions. —{admin} Pathoschild 05:43:49, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Test Wikipedia Test sites

edit

Hi, On the page for admin tools in test.wikipedia.org it says no for irc and oversight for the site Wikitest. I have just installed both of them. Would you mind to update it? Thanks. --Truetech (talk) 22:38, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Ajax sysop (new version of obsolete script)

edit

Hello Az1568. You were using "Getmoredata.js", which adds a list of subpages (and a block log for user pages) on the deletion form. That script has been replaced by the better-written and more extensible Ajax sysop. I switched you to the new script (see a screenshot comparing outputs); if you prefer to use the old script, I'll add the source code directly to your script file since it will no longer be maintained.

You'll need to refresh your browser (CTRL+R in Firefox) to see the new version. If you find any bugs or have suggestions, please let me know. :) —Pathoschild 00:53:47, 07 October 2008 (UTC)

Corrupt police officer

edit

Blocking for an unacceptable username? That makes you a corrupt police officer :)

Thanks for that (I forgot all about blocking the username, I just deleted the page and moved on). Cheers, Daniel (talk) 02:48, 11 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Heh, no problem. Looks like I'm a bit absent-minded as well :P ...managed to block RyanCross in the process. >_< (Sorry about that Ryan) --Az1568 02:55, 11 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Benefactors/id

edit

Hi, you might need to update the wmf:Donate/Benefactors/id page also. Thanks! :) ~REX (talk) 09:25, 10 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Heh, updated. Thanks for the reminder. :) --Az1568 (talk) 09:33, 10 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! :) Another one, it seems that the Special:ContributionHistory/id page has not been automatically updated? For example, it still uses "Earlier donations" instead of "Daftar sebelumnya". And when I click, it shows page in English, not bahasa Indonesia. ~REX (talk) 10:23, 10 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I noticed that too... I'll probably need to contact a dev and see what they know. --Az1568 (talk) 16:59, 10 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

la fundraising message

edit

Hi Az1568, It's great that you published la, but there are two small issues that I hope you can fix, one I don't have an explanation for, the other is my fault.

(1) For reasons I don't understand although message 7 says "Sustine Vicipaediam: Inceptum quod lucrum non petit." it was published as "Sustine Vicipaedia: Inceptum wuod lucrum non petit." with the "m" incorrectly missing from Vicipaedia.

(2) The second one is a typo that is my fault: Message 5 should have read: "Vicipaedia: Vitam Molliens." with a double "ll" in "Molliens".

I hope you can fix it. If not I understand... Thanks, Rafael

Fundraiser translation updates

edit

Hello Az1568,

I have a question and I think you can answer that. If not, could you pass this message to the right person? I was wondering if someone could re-publish the following four translation pages to the Dutch Fundraiser website: Fundraising 2007/Video met Jimmy ondertiteling, Translation_requests/WMF/Local_chapters/nl and Fundraising 2008/core messages/nl. All these translations have changed. I've mostly corrected spelling errors and untranslated words. Thanks in advance for updating the Dutch part of the Wikimedia Fundraiser website! Tvdm 14:00, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Done (Except for the video, which I'll ask Brion to do). Thanks for your help. :) --Az1568 (talk) 20:56, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hello Az1568, thanks for the updates. From Fundraising 2008/core messages/nl, only the message of the audio PSA's (string 115) hasn't been updated on the site. Please re-update string 115 from Fundraising 2008/core messages/nl again to update that string. Thanks in advance for the efforts! Tvdm 10:37, 22 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello

edit

Regarding this edit, I blanked it so that I could move Template:Sb it to Template:Sandbox; unfortunately it has too much history.--MrIPAddress 19:41, 21 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

That wouldn't be a good idea since their both very different templates, and you can't move a page to an existing page anyways. --Az1568 (talk) 20:06, 21 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Buttons for nn

edit

I saw there remains some red links here http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/User:Cbrown1023/Fund2008/status in case you haven't noticed the text for the nb and nn buttons are identical so Image:2008_fundraiser_banner_button-nb.png (also for micro and small) may be used for nn as well as nb. Regards, Finn Rindahl 20:19, 26 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I've changed the buttons to nb. Thanks. --Az1568 (talk) 20:32, 26 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Another minor detail, http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Donate/nb shows an wrong version of #73... Is there some page where I'm supposed to post messages like this, this is the third talkpage I've been using to nag about the norwegian versions ;o) Finn Rindahl 20:46, 26 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Fixed #73. You can either post on User talk:Cbrown1023 or here, since we both manage the fundraiser translations. (Usually, if Cbrown isn't around, I'll leave an answer on his talk page ;) ). --Az1568 (talk) 20:55, 26 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
OK, another one for you: The text at http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Donate/Now/nn reads Støtt Wikimedia~ and not Støtt Wikimedia!Finn Rindahl 21:00, 26 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Oops, fixed. :o --Az1568 (talk) 21:13, 26 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

More nn stuff

edit

Sorry, but some new requests for changes appeared after publishing. It's quite a lot of places, mainly since someone came up with "ideell" as a better tranlation of "nonprofit". This is the diff, concerns #2, 6, 50, 71, 72, 80, 81, 97, 99, 100, 102, 117, 120 and 123. Regards, Finn Rindahl 19:06, 27 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I might be able to fix this myself now [2], just have to have a look around and find the right pages ;o) Finn Rindahl 11:08, 28 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yep :) --Az1568 (talk) 16:54, 28 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I simply traced your steps to find the relevant pages, but I wonder: is there some index of which core messages # that belong in which templates?Finn Rindahl 17:02, 28 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hmm.. something like wmf:User:Az1568/fund_notes? --Az1568 (talk) 17:08, 28 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yep :) --Finn Rindahl 17:14, 28 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Could you (or someone else who's watching this page) add the missing #11 for /ja, /he and /fa, and also check that I copied /ar correctly. I'm really having troubles with those fonts and rtl. Thanks, Finn Rindahl 23:22, 28 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sure. :) --Az1568 (talk) 23:29, 28 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

...And even more nn stuff: There seem to be a problem with the sitenotise for lang:nn, it was working just fine after you istalled them, and mardethana made some small changes at my request that displayed as they should as well. But now the text is suddenly back to English. Any idea what might have happened? Finn Rindahl 07:50, 29 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm not really...sure. Looking into it tho - I'll poke the dev team in the morning if I don't get it working. --Az1568 (talk) 09:17, 29 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
