Wikivoyage as thematic organization
editHi Stefan, I was wondering if there still any development going on for Wikivoyage to becoming affiliated with Wikimedia? --Saqib (talk) 15:18, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Saqib. Yes. I hope you got my email last month. The one I sent to all association members. There were some news inside. I can resend it to you, if necessary. I met some guys of the committee. The by-laws review is in process. We've just been asked to answer some questions and we did it ([[Talk:Wikivoyage Association/By-laws here...]). So everything is ongoing. Would be nice to have more members. I am going to writre a message on all the lounges next week, when I write more about our new map features and the location database, and ask people to support the association. Only that way we can support the whole project and focus our energy.
- I am quite busy with my real job. Besides there is a lot of communication around Wikimedia to follow, there is a presentation for Hong Kong to be prepared and I am going to buy a flat. So sometimes in can be quiet around me. A clone of mine would be helpful sometimes.... :) Will you be in Hong Kong?
- If you have any ideas (or things that happened on en: or other languages that I missed) ... just write to me here or via email.... Thanks for the support. I am going to keep you all up-to-date... Many greetings from Germany. -- DerFussi 18:00, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
- Glad to hear everything is in process Stefan. Why don't you directly ask active Wikivoyage contributors to join the association? We've got many new contributors and I believe few will show interest in the association. And yes, I'll be in Honk Kong along with my wife but sorry to tell you I don't have any idea what to present in the presentation. By the way, good luck with buying apartment. :) Greetings from Pakistan. --Saqib (talk) 20:00, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
- I think I asked on en: travelers Pub already. And I was in contact with some frequent contributors via email. When I spread the Message about the location database and the new statistics I am going to ask the contributors again... Tanks and many greetings to Pakistan. DerFussi 20:07, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
- Stefan, would that not be good idea if the association website shall be rebuilt but without using MediaWiki? --Saqib (talk) 20:26, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hmm. We could do it. I can create wbesite. Its kind of side business of mine. But we need a place for our meetings and votings/resolutions. A wiki is quite usefull for votings because you can not remove old edits and its editable for members only. And everybody can maintain it without any knowledge of using a CMS or something like that. But there is one thing we can do.... Running a "normal" HTML website on the association's domain and using the wiki for the internal stuff. This one sounds nice. Any idea about content/design? Maybe we can colect some ideas on the assoc wiki. I am going to spread the idea out to the members? What do you think? -- DerFussi 17:59, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
- Stefan, we can use WordPress. They've some nice themes being used by many organisations and plenty of plugins which can be used during the election periods. As far online meetings are concerned, I would say IRC is the right choice. Let me know what do you think and I'll suggest you few WordPress themes. --Saqib (talk) 19:03, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

Help test better mass message delivery
editHi. You're being contacted as you've previously used global message delivery (or its English Wikipedia counterpart). It doesn't feel so great to be spammed, does it? ;-)
For the past few months, Legoktm has built a replacement to the current message delivery system called MassMessage. MassMessage uses a proper user interface form (no more editing a /Spam subpage), works faster (it can complete a large delivery in minutes), and no longer requires being on an access list (any local administrator can use it). In addition, many tiny annoyances with the old system have been addressed. It's a real improvement! :-)
You can test out MassMessage here: testwiki:Special:MassMessage. The biggest difference you'll likely notice is that any input list must use a new {{#target:}}
parser function. For example, {{#target:User talk:Jimbo Wales}}
or {{#target:User talk:Jimbo Wales|test2.wikipedia.org}}
. For detailed instructions, check out mw:Help:Extension:MassMessage.
If you find any bugs, have suggestions for additional features, or have any other feedback, drop a note at m:Talk:MassMessage. Thanks for spamming! --MZMcBride (talk) 05:24, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
Beginning of MassMessage, end of EdwardsBot
editHi. You're being contacted as you're listed as an EdwardsBot user.
MassMessage has been deployed to all Wikimedia wikis. For help using the new tool, please check out its help page or drop a note on Meta-Wiki.
With over 400,000 edits to Wikimedia wikis, EdwardsBot has served us well; however EdwardsBot will no longer perform local or global message delivery after December 31, 2013.
A huge thanks to Legoktm, Reedy, Aaron Schulz and everyone else who helped to get MassMessage deployed. --MZMcBride (talk) 02:36, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
Please visit this page if you wish to contribute to a centralized discussion about a Wikimedia genealogy project. Thank you! --Another Believer (talk) 22:06, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
Superprotect letter update
editHi DerFussi,
Along with more hundreds of others, you recently signed Letter to Wikimedia Foundation: Superprotect and Media Viewer, which I wrote.
Today, we have 562 signatures here on Meta, and another 61 on change.org, for a total of 623 signatures. Volunteers have fully translated it into 16 languages, and begun other translations. This far exceeds my most optimistic hopes about how many might sign the letter -- I would have been pleased to gain 200 siguatures -- but new signatures continue to come.
I believe this is a significant moment for Wikimedia and Wikipedia. Very rarely have I seen large numbers of people from multiple language and project communities speak with a unified voice. As I understand it, we are unified in a desire for the Wikimedia Foundation to respect -- in actions, in addition to words -- the will of the community who has built the Wikimedia projects for the benefit of all humanity. I strongly believe it is possible to innovate and improve our software tools, together with the Wikimedia Foundation. But substantial changes are necessary in order for us to work together smoothly and productively. I believe this letter identifies important actions that will strongly support those changes.
Have you been discussing these issues in your local community? If so, I think we would all appreciate an update (on the letter's talk page) about how those discussions have gone, and what people are saying. If not, please be bold and start a discussoin on your Village Pump, or in any other venue your project uses -- and then leave a summary of what kind of response you get on the letter's talk page.
Finally, what do you think is the right time, and the right way, to deliver this letter? We could set a date, or establish a threshold of signatures. I have some ideas, but am open to suggestions.
Thank you for your engagement on this issue, and please stay in touch. -Pete F (talk) 18:30, 26 August 2014 (UTC)

Per your GS nom
editI hope that you can read between the lines of my comment on your nomination for GS rights. I think that an RFC would be beneficial, especially with regard to the Wikivoyage migration as a community to WMF. — billinghurst sDrewth 12:02, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks. I agree. Actually I dont need a global permission. I even have no time for that. But a helping hand for some mediawiki settings/blocks/speam deletings on the small language versions seems to be useful. -- DerFussi 12:46, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
Wiki Loves Pride
editYou are invited to participate in Wiki Loves Pride!
- What? Wiki Loves Pride, a campaign to document and photograph LGBT culture and history, including pride events
- When? June 2015
- How can you help?
- 1.) Create or improve LGBT-related articles and showcase the results of your work here
- 2.) Upload photographs or other media related to LGBT culture and history, including pride events, and add images to relevant Wikipedia articles; feel free to create a subpage with a gallery of your images (see examples from last year)
- 3.) Contribute to an LGBT-related task force at another Wikimedia project (Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, Wikivoyage, etc.)
Or, view or update the current list of Tasks. This campaign is supported by the Wikimedia LGBT+ User Group, an officially recognized affiliate of the Wikimedia Foundation. Visit the group's page at Meta-Wiki for more information, or follow Wikimedia LGBT+ on Facebook. Remember, Wiki Loves Pride is about creating and improving LGBT-related content at Wikimedia projects, and content should have a neutral point of view. One does not need to identify as LGBT or any other gender or sexual minority to participate. This campaign is about adding accurate, reliable information to Wikipedia, plain and simple, and all are welcome!
If you have any questions, please leave a message on the campaign's main talk page.
Thanks, and happy editing!
Help on Commons
editGuten Morgen. Can you help us with some "copyright expertise" for a couple of german files at Commons? Please see here (comment by Strainu on 15.07.2016, 21:15 (UTC)). Vielendank. --Wintereu 05:08, 16 July 2016 (UTC)
- Guten Morgen. I have to admit. I am not familiar with German copyright concerning this kind of images. I can read about it but it will take some time because my wiki time is very limited. -- DerFussi 07:56, 18 July 2016 (UTC)

The Community Wishlist Survey
editHi,
You get this message because you’ve previously participated in the Community Wishlist Survey. I just wanted to let you know that this year’s survey is now open for proposals. You can suggest technical changes until 11 November: Community Wishlist Survey 2019.
You can vote from November 16 to November 30. To keep the number of messages at a reasonable level, I won’t send out a separate reminder to you about that. /Johan (WMF) 11:24, 30 October 2018 (UTC)
Grazie ancora e a presto,

Roland not answering
editHi, Roland Unger is not answering anymore to my emails and message, do you know if is everything ok? Thanks in advance.--Ferdi2005[Mail] 13:48, 16 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Ferdi2005:At least I saw him working on Wikivoyage this weekend. We haven't beein in personal contact for more than a year. I am currently not very active on Wikivoyage and stopped programming. But at least I take a look at it almost every day. But due to his activity I assume that everything is ok. I will be on the road and almost all the time offline for the next 6 weeks due to one working travel and then holiday. -- DerFussi 16:09, 18 October 2020 (UTC)
test.wikipedia.org
editHallo DerFussi!
This action has been automatically identified as harmful, and therefore disallowed. If you believe your action was constructive, please inform an administrator of what you were trying to do. A brief description of the abuse rule which your action matched is: 0 copyvios
Danke dennoch nochmal!--Hellerhoff (talk) 08:37, 30 October 2020 (UTC)
The 2021 Community Wishlist Survey is now open! This survey is the process where communities decide what the Community Tech team should work on over the next year. We encourage everyone to submit proposals until the deadline on 30 November, or comment on other proposals to help make them better. The communities will vote on the proposals between 8 December and 21 December.
The Community Tech team is focused on tools for experienced Wikimedia editors. You can write proposals in any language, and we will translate them for you. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing your proposals!
18:25, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
We invite all registered users to vote on the 2021 Community Wishlist Survey. You can vote from now until 21 December for as many different wishes as you want.
In the Survey, wishes for new and improved tools for experienced editors are collected. After the voting, we will do our best to grant your wishes. We will start with the most popular ones.
We, the Community Tech, are one of the Wikimedia Foundation teams. We create and improve editing and wiki moderation tools. What we work on is decided based on results of the Community Wishlist Survey. Once a year, you can submit wishes. After two weeks, you can vote on the ones that you're most interested in. Next, we choose wishes from the survey to work on. Some of the wishes may be granted by volunteer developers or other teams.
We are waiting for your votes. Thank you!

Invitation
editHi, DerFussi.
Since Wikivoyage Association ended the affiliate recognition, I along with other users created a user group which is in charge of promoting the development and dissemination of various projects with less visibility including Wikivoyage. I'd like to invite you so you can share your experiences.
Otherwise, if you have questions can ping me and I'll answer you. :) Greetings, --Galahad (sasageyo!)(esvoy) 18:02, 29 January 2021 (UTC)

The Wikimedia LGBTQ+ User Group is holding online working days in May. If you’re an active Wikimedian, editing on LGBTQ+ issues or if you identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community, come help us set goals, develop our organisation and structures, consider how to respond to issues faced by Queer editors, and plan for the next 12 months.
We will be meeting online for 3 half-days, 14–16 May at 1400–1730 UTC. While our working language is English, we are looking to accommodate users who would prefer to participate in other languages, including translation facilities.

Queering Wikipedia 2023 conference
editWikimedia LGBT+ User Group and the organizing team of Queering Wikipedia is delivering the Queering Wikipedia 2023 Conference for LGBT+ Wikimedians and allies, as a hybrid, bilingual and trans-local event. It is online on 12, 14 and 17 May, the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia #IDAHOBIT, with offline events at around 10 locations on 5 continents in the 5-day span as QW2023 Nodes.
The online program is delivered as a series of keynotes, panels, presentations, workshops, lightning talks and creative interventions, starting on Friday noon (UTC) with the first keynote of Dr Nishant Shah entitled: I spy, with my little AI — Wikiway as a means to disrupt the ‘dirty queer’ impulses of emergent AI platforms. Second keynote is at Sunday’s closure by Esra’a Al Shafei, Wikimedia Foundation’s Board of Trustees vice chair, entitled: Digital Public Spaces for Queer Communities.
If you have been an active Wikimedian or enthusiast, supporting LGBT+ activities or if you identify as part of the larger LGBT+ community and allies in Wikimedia, please join us in advancing this thematic work. We encourage you to join online or in person with fellow Wikimedians if it is easy and safe to do so. Our working languages are English and Spanish, with possible local language support at sites of Nodes.
Registration for the online event is free and is open until Wednesday May 10th at 18:00 UTC, for safety protocol. Late event registration approval and event access denial is at the discretion of organizers.
More information, and registration details, may be found on Meta at QW2023
