List of wikis with unused files

Hello!

I made User:MGA73/UnusedFiles that is a page of wikis with unused files. I was thinking that it could be useful because it makes it easy to check if any of the unused files look like they should be deleted.

Ofcourse we can't just assume that all unused files should be deleted. But it should make it easier to jump to wikis and have a quick look.

Do you think anyone would use the list if I post it as SRM?

(I don't expect anyone to check them all but perhaps someone would have a look and check a few wikis and then remove them from the list. And after some weeks or months all wikis will be checked. Non-GS-wikis should be removed.) MGA73 (talk) 19:31, 27 March 2025 (UTC)

Happy you like it. And it is always good to start with a small category in case something goes wrong. Does it work on pages like b:ky:Special:ListFiles (I noticed via Proposals for closing projects/Closure of Kyrgyz Wikibooks) or does it only work with categories? --MGA73 (talk) 17:33, 30 March 2025 (UTC)

There is also a tool that lets you delete files that are on a list. That is sometimes handy too. If you want to try another category there are a few files in s:ta:பகுப்பு:விக்கிமீடியா காமன்சில் உள்ள படிமங்கள். I do not think I have any big categories right now. I checked User_talk:EPIC/Archive_2024_(2)#How_to_mass_delete and it seems the other script only works if you are a local admin (or that you know how to modify the script I guess). --MGA73 (talk) 17:45, 30 March 2025 (UTC)

Does User:DreamRimmer/MassDelete.js not let you copy a list of files into a box if you go to Special:MassDelete on the relevant wiki?

If not you could try to copy en:User:Animum/massdelete.js and change line 209:

/sysop/.test(config.wgUserGroups)
->
(/sysop/.test(config.wgUserGroups) || /global-sysop/.test(config.wgUserGroups))

Then perhaps you can go to Special:MassDelete on the relevant wiki and copy a list of pages to delete into the box. Creating a list of files should be easier than having to add the files to a category first. You can always test by putting 2 or 3 file names in the box. I made a list in b:vi:Thành viên:MGA73/Sandbox.

Thank you! That removed a lot of the files :-) Do you have any favorite wiki you clean up on? I spend a year on Japanese Wikipedia and the number of files dropped from 86k to 5k. I tried the other Japanese Wikis too but the admins there are not very active. Aha, lol. Can you add {{PD-ineligible}} to cs:b:Soubor:DOS-Edit.png and export it to Commons? It is protected so I can't do it. Sadly it seems most or all the files on cs:b:Speciální:Seznam_souborů have no license. --MGA73 (talk) 15:11, 3 April 2025 (UTC)

Awesome. But there are still wikis on my list: c:Commons:Village_pump/Proposals#List_of_wikis_with_files_and_GFDL-only_in_MediaWiki:Licenses_(change_GFDL_cut-off_date). I added 2 more files to the category. I thought it would be more... But now I started on kk:Санат:Unused file CC-license without source. There is a text on some files that the file is licensed CC-BY-SA-3.0 but there is no information about source to back up the claim that the file is really licensed CC. I was thinking that when the bot is done you could scan the category and check a few and if you agree that the license claim is not possible to verify then you could delete those too. --MGA73 (talk) 08:50, 9 April 2025 (UTC)

User:Hide on Rosé I noticed that you script is added to some categories. If you add a "nowiki"-tag in your script it should prevent it from ending in categories. Some of my scripts had the same problem. --MGA73 (talk) 13:16, 9 April 2025 (UTC)
