Your feedback is requested

edit

Hello Ladsgroup, We are conducting a poll of global renamers and stewards regarding some future toolings related to some rename requests. Your feedback is requested at the poll on VRT WIKI. Best regards, — xaosflux Talk 00:18, 17 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Xaosflux Hi, I don't think I have access to that wiki. I am a global renamer but not VRT agent. Amir (talk) 13:27, 17 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the note, will check in to this - it is about the topic I've had on the global renamers mailing list. — xaosflux Talk 14:45, 17 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Inactive bot account on da.wikipedia

edit

Hi! I'm going through accounts that have bot flags on the Danish Wikipedia. And there I have observed that your bot account da:User:Dexbot has not been used for several years on the Danish Wikipedia. I will remove the bot flag in 30 days if you don't report back that you plan to use it. Otherwise, the account can regain bot flags by notifying Wikipedia:Bot status request if you need it again. Consider adding more info to new_wikis_handler.py

edit

Since "Timezone" is typically also requested for new wikis but not done as part of "Create" tasks, could you please consider adding that to your new_wikis_handler.py script? (Also, as a minor stylistic issue, I think it makes more sense to put "Project name" above "Namespaces", since the latter tends to depend partially on the former [i.e., Project and Project_talk].) - dcljr (talk) 05:39, 26 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Dcljr Hi, feel free to make MRs for it and I'd be happy to review and merge them. See mw:Gitlab Amir (talk) 00:56, 29 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, but I can't really do that. I've never used GitLab and (frankly) don't want to take the time to figure out how. Could you do it? - dcljr (talk) 00:45, 20 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
https://gitlab.wikimedia.org/ladsgroup/Phabricator-maintenance-bot/-/merge_requests/12 Also https://gitlab.wikimedia.org/ladsgroup/Phabricator-maintenance-bot/-/merge_requests/11 already existed for Timezone but I didn't notice until I filed 12. * Pppery * it has begun 23:56, 20 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

fawiki as pilot wiki for WMDE TechWishes' sub-referencing feature?

edit

Hi Ladsgroup, I hope you are alright!

You might have seen the recent village pump posts regarding the new sub-referencing feature developed by WMDE Technical Wishes (e.g. [1]).

We are currently looking for a small number of pilot wikis to continue further development for the next couple of months while already receiving feedback from communities working with the MVP. We would like to ask fawiki to become a pilot wiki for the new feature. Do you think your community would be interested in piloting? Where do you think should we start a discussion about it?

Thanks and best regards, Johannes (Johannnes89 in my volunteer capacity). --Johannes Richter (WMDE) (talk) 11:49, 19 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Johannes Richter (WMDE) Hi, I can definitely ask the community, if they like it, we can go ahead. Do you want me to start the conversation there? Amir (talk) 19:34, 19 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, that would be great!
We are currently fixing some Visual Editor workflows for sub-referencing and some RTL bugs (and also want to implement the feedback we're currently getting after to our global announcement). The pilot wiki phase will probably start in six weeks, when most of this current work is done. We'll closely work with 3-5 pilot wikis to further improve the feature and hope to deploy it globally by the end of this year. Johannes Richter (WMDE) (talk) 09:30, 20 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
started the discussion. Amir (talk) 18:50, 20 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks a lot! I'll respond there to provide some further information :) Johannes Richter (WMDE) (talk) 09:25, 22 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Johannes Richter (WMDE) So far it's going well fa:Special:GoToComment/c-Ladsgroup-20240820184300-نظرخواهی_برای_فعال_کردن_این_قابلیت once a week or two passes, we will close it. Amir (talk) 09:29, 22 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I saw the positive responses, great! Do you think it's not even necessary for me to add more details to the discussion about our our plans for pilot wikis (like the ones I mentioned above)? Johannes Richter (WMDE) (talk) 09:33, 22 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I don't think it'd be needed Amir (talk) 09:37, 22 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ok :) I'll watch the discussion in case any questions to WMDE arise (and you can of course always ping me / Johanna). Johannes Richter (WMDE) (talk) 09:41, 22 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Johannes Richter (WMDE) ICYMI, It's overwhelmingly in favor of deployment. Amir (talk) 10:36, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks again for initiating the discussing! I've watched it frequently and was very happy about the overwhelming support. As I said above we're currently working on some RTL fixes (e.g. footnote numbering for sub-references) and also some VisualEditor workflows. Once that's done and the pilot wiki phase is starting soon, I'll leave a note on the discussion board, also explaining how we could work regarding feedback and unexpected bugs :) Johannes Richter (WMDE) (talk) 13:04, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Asking help from Persian Wikipedia to help test our first deployment?

edit

Dear Ladsgroup, I recently posted to the Farsi/Persian Wikipedia to ask if the community would be interested in piloting an interface change on moving the Wikidata Item data object from the General section of the sidebar menu to the In Other Projects section, as part of Phabricator:T66315.

I was recommended by colleagues at WMDE to reach out to you as both an Interface Admin and Community Leader of the Persian Wikipedia to ask for your own thoughts or feedback on this topic, as well as possibly signal-boosting or drawing attention to the post. As we have only received 2 (positive) comments so far, I do not feel this is enough community support to proceed yet.

If you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Kind regards, -Danny Benjafield (WMDE) (talk) 11:38, 22 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Danny Benjafield (WMDE) Hi, I honestly don't think people in Persian Wikipedia would care much about the difference. Larger wikis might but I don't think for us it matters much. I don't think a consensus would be needed here at all. Amir (talk) 22:24, 25 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your reply and insight, we will add fawiki to the list of pilot wikis. Best, -Danny Benjafield (WMDE) (talk) 06:22, 26 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
