Welcome to Meta!
editHello Melamrawy (WMF), and welcome to the Wikimedia Meta-Wiki! This website is for coordinating and discussing all Wikimedia projects. You may find it useful to read our policy page. If you are interested in doing translations, visit Meta:Babylon. You can also leave a note on Meta:Babel or Wikimedia Forum (please read the instructions at the top of the page before posting there). If you would like, feel free to ask me questions on my talk page. Happy editing! Nemo 20:48, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
And welcome on Meta, as well! :-D --Nemo 20:48, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

Thank You
editMoushira :) On behalf of Wikimedia France I would like to thank you for your cooperation during the last fundraiser and we look forward for more fruitful and successful fundraisers over the next years. Thanks again :)-- Anthere 20:59, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
Hi there,
I noticed that you created the above page, but I am wondering if you noticed Wikimedia_Chapters#Existing_chapters on the main WM Chapters page? I don't know if you're trying to gather information from that, but it has a fair bit of information on it.
Hope this helps,
The Helpful One 16:39, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
- Sure, you're welcome! :) I've boldly moved the page to Wikimedia Chapters/Overview, to remove the extra unecessary spacing after the / - I hope you don't mind! Thanks, The Helpful One 16:52, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
- You're certainly welcome! I noticed on your user page that you put your email in a funny format to avoid getting spam, we have a special template that allows you to do this as it basically makes the @ sign an image instead of a symbol. I updated your user page here, and I hope you'll agree the small change makes it easier to understand. The Helpful One 17:01, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
- Ah, I realised that the convention for naming the pages is Wikimedia chapters (small c) as you can see here. I have therefore updated the page accordingly and it now is at Wikimedia chapters/Overview - get there eventually eh? ;) The Helpful One 17:07, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

Re: CentralNotice for WMPL
editMoushira,
thanks for letting me know—there seems to have been a misunderstanding in our communication. I'll have somebody change that in a couple of minute—thank you! odder (talk) 19:26, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
Re: Help request
editHi Moushira,
I have started the translation of the Arabic Language Initiative strategic plan. I hope I would be able to finish it and be ready for proofreading after 2 days.
--HaythamAbulela 15:57, 3 June 2012 (UTC)
- I have finished the page and set the status to proofreading, I would recommend anyone other than I to proofread it so the proofreading quality is reliable.

“User Profiles”
editHi Melamrawy, thanks for your note at Lila’s talk page regarding the “user profiles” [1]. You’ve pointed to mw:Talk:Structured profiles as a starting point for discussions regarding content and naming of the corresponding feature. Do you think there would be useful activity, if I start a conversation there? As User:Sänger S.G already mentioned, this page hasn’t seen any activity for more than a year. I’m not sure whether a phabricator task would be better instead. Regards, —MisterSynergy (talk) 07:05, 14 March 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the note @MisterSynergy:, the topic has been relatively silent for a while, and there are even older discussions like mw:GlobalProfile. The current setting of userpage needs more research, and more discussion that factors in community feedback. Phabricator is fine, but the discussion there focuses on what to do with Special:UserProfile, rather than what else to replace it. Lets try to revive the conversation in a constructive way, the conflict is not turning on/off the images or the entire page, we need to define alternatives that efficiently serves how best we want our userpage on mobile to look and behave like. By next week, I would like to post old mockups and previous iterations to to help with discussing alternatives what a userpage would include. Definitely, we need to add all links to previous discussion in mw:Talk:Structured profiles to add context, but this is the most recent page on the topic, and where the current layout of mobile userpage stemmed from. Let me know if that makes sense. Always happy to further discuss :)--Melamrawy (WMF) (talk) 09:50, 14 March 2015 (UTC)
- @Melamrawy (WMF): Sounds well! As a wikipedia user who has never been involved in any development activities yet, I find it very difficult to get in touch with WMF officials/developers regarding issues like this one. I guess that for users like me it’s generally very difficult to make suggestions. It would be extremely useful, if a central wiki page was available (on meta or mw?), that included a rough overview of a project timeline plus links to important past discussions and contact points of the responsible project managers/developers. For many users it would be nice if there were not to many technical details on such a page. If pages like these were available for all major WMF projects (or are they already?), people would perhaps stop to show up as Lila’s talk page as soon as a problem arises. So, in conclusion: yes, please collect such a page, include some information (purpose of the feature/project outline, why it is significant within the mobile edit campaign, responsible WMF officials, project timeline, important discussions, etc.). Let me know when it is available, then I would comment there. Regards, —MisterSynergy (talk) 15:46, 14 March 2015 (UTC)
- @MisterSynergy: Thanks for (and agreed on) your comment and suggestions. I am preparing a newsletter for mobile project, and we are working on enhancing the "storytelling" aspect of products, to put things within context and expand the information beyond technical details. Thanks again for sharing clearly, ideas to enhance communications. For the record, am your liaison for mobile projects, someone you can always reach out to when in doubt :) Cheers. --Melamrawy (WMF) (talk) 12:07, 18 March 2015 (UTC)

Dashboards
editI hear you're planning to start a list of dashboards. I feel your pain: there are so many of them and no easy way to learn about them. I'm still discovering new ones every so often.
That's why I started a list of dashboards this week; it's at Metrics. Of course, just today I discovered that there's already a list of metrics; it's at Research:Data/Dashboards. We should work together on combining and expanding them. First issue: should we organize the list by dashboards (like I did at Metrics) or list individual metrics (like they do at Research:Data/Dashboards)?
In the longer term, Analytics is planning Wikistats 2.0, a project to create a single metrics infrastructure and single dashboarding framework. The task is on phab:T107175. If we produce a good list of existing metrics, that could help them assess which ones they need to bring over to the new framework and in what order.—Neil P. Community support for feature development
editHi. I left a note at Talk:Requests for comment/Related Pages#Community support just now.
While I'm trying to reserve judgment, briefly looking at mw:Reading/Web/Projects/Related pages and mw:Talk:Reading/Web/Projects/Related pages, "related pages" seems to be another feature similar to Gather and UserProfile: implemented without any community support or consultation by some portion of the mobile team and consequently loathed by members of the Wikimedia editing community for violating core principles and requirements.
Am I missing something here? This anti-pattern is incredibly harmful, in my opinion. There's always a kernel of a good idea in these features, but the implementation is consistently so horrible that it "scorches the earth" and makes future iteration and development significantly more difficult. (cc: Jkatz) --MZMcBride (talk) 23:24, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
- Hello, MZMcBride! Hope you are doing well. The pattern is/was true, where things were pushed without a clear community ask for it (you forgot to mention mediaviewer in your list, btw;)), I am not saying this is a healthy practice, but assuming good faith, we could possibly agree is that the reason why this happened is because a)Not every community member is able and willing to articulate and share their ideas about product or tools that they need or even want to suggest (sometimes it is as simple as a language issue), b)We don't have a clear methodology of how to empower communities members to be able to suggest ideas. Wait, we have community wishlists that has been around for over a 10 years now. True, and finally community tech is moving forward with some ideas, however, we also need to explore broader ideas, that go beyond asks for admin tools or watchlists functionalities, and that help our communities and our projects grow. So what happened with related pages? It was pushed without anyone asking for it. Now it is in beta. Some people have used it and shared their opinion. It might be useful for small wikis. It might be useful for Wikis where read more isn't a frequent section in their articles. At that stage, is the best decision to step back and cancel all plans, or at least have a conversation about how to move forward with a tool, that has been running and tested, and is clear to understand what it actually does? I am sure you have seen that, but the team has also started this, which I am not claiming that it will solve all our problems, but worth trying as an approach to talking early about ideas before implementing or building any software. I hope anything of what I said does make sense to you, somehow :) --Melamrawy (WMF) (talk) 15:17, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
Hovercard on French Wikipedia
editHello ! I was on twitter, saying how much i like the hovercard system, and i asked my friend if the hovercard would be eventually launched for all users, even the ip. They told me that you're the one who could help me :) Is there any prevision like that for WP.fr ? Thank's for your work on Wikimedia ! GrandCelinien (talk) 22:02, 18 August 2016 (UTC)
- Hm, j'imagine c'etait Benoit qui tu a dit :). Glad you like Hovercards, as of now it is a beta feature, would you like to help us start a conversation on French Wikipedia, so that we can enable Hovercards on stable as a test.
