username
editHi, Ocaasi, did you know your username in Flemish means "second hand"? Lotje (talk) 05:26, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
- Lotje, I did not know that! I researched the definition and I can affirm that...I indeed 'have had a previous owner', 'have already been owned or used', and am 'unoriginally taken from someone else'. After all, I believe we are all digital stardust on loan to build a cosmic library of knowledge--and I didn't even get the word stardust myself, I stole it from Sagan. I'm proud to be worn-in, borrowed, and thoroughly pleasantly derivative ;) Thanks for that tidbit of knowledge, Jake Ocaasi (talk) 15:05, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
- Also I am proud to be worn-in, borrowed, and thoroughly pleasantly derivative. Lotje (talk) 10:00, 21 November 2014 (UTC)
Wikipedia Library
editWhether we can use Wikipedia Library access services to transfer some documents, which are now in the public domain, to wikisource? see ru:Википедия:Форум/Новости#New Wikipedia Library Accounts Now Available (November 2014). Sunpriat (talk) 15:28, 8 November 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Sunpriat! This is actually a very sensitive question so I'm glad you asked. When our partners make an access donation to us, we are clear in the expectations on every signup page that our editors will be accessing their site in accordance with the site's terms of service. The access, although coordinated by The Wikipedia Library, is provided directly between the website and the editor. As such, each editor using the site is doing so under the site's terms of use. This means that the answer to your question depends on the site's terms of service, and it also means that in some or even many cases the absurd conclusion is true: you cannot copy public domain content from that website to put on Wikisource without raising serious legal implications and perhaps risking our partnerships. As such, we should be careful and ask lots of questions before moving content en masse. A simple path is to ask the publisher for permission. I realize that having public domain content locked up behind a paywall is insane, and yet I cannot myself give permission for the intuitive and radical freeing of that content. I hope this helps explain the frustrating situation. Please keep asking if there are specific situations you think need attention. Best, Jake Ocaasi (WMF) (talk) 01:31, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

Coordinating a Russian Wikilibrary branch
editHi! We've met on Wikimania 2015 and talked about that you need coordinators, who knows Russian. Russian is my first language and I left you my visit card, you promised to send me details on email. My email is bekhruzbekochilov@yahoo.com. Can you send me it, please? I am really interested in your project and want to help. Thank you in advance --Ochilov (talk) 17:52, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
Hi
editHi, I'm from WMUY, I've seen the add "New Wikipedia Library Accounts Available Now (December 2015)" in the Village Pump of es:WP, but I see no link to the page where request these accounts. Could you please link me? Thanks. --Ganímedes (talk) 10:09, 11 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Ganímedes, each publisher has its own signup page. The name of the publisher links to the signup page, so Brill goes to W:EN:WP:Brill. Cheers! Jake Ocaasi (WMF) (talk) 17:58, 11 December 2015 (UTC)

A paper on personal attacks in English Wikipedia
editHi! You're receiving this message because you signed up as a participant to the m:Research:Detox project. We just wanted to let you know that some of the researchers on the project have released a paper that uses machine learning to analyze some aspects of the nature of personal attacks in English Wikipedia. The paper can be found on arxiv here. If you get the chance to read it, we'd love to hear your thoughts over on the m:Research:Detox page.
Wikipedia Library and JSTOR
editHi. I came here via a clickable wikilink at Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Library/Databases saying, "Contact a Wikipedia Library representative to set up journal requests in your community". I edit in WP across lots of topical areas and I often end up on registration-needed JSTOR web pages when trying deal with {{citation needed}} tags. I see that JSTOR is listed at a source for which access is available via WP Library. How do I go about getting registered for JSTOR access? Wtmitchell (talk) 03:00, 15 November 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Wtmithcell. You can just go to the page WP:JSTOR and signup. JSTOR is very popular so we may have a waitlist at the moment, but the same is true for all of the other databases on that page. Just click through to their signups. Cheers, Ocaasi (WMF) (talk) 21:08, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

1Lib1Ref not translatable…
editHi,
There is something wrong with the translate markup on The Wikipedia Library/1Lib1Ref. Could you please take a look ? (we're about to launch communication in France and it would be better to have the updated page translated in French).

Translate markup
editHi, I´m trying to translate some 1Lib1Ref pages, like The Wikipedia Library/1Lib1Ref/Connect, The Wikipedia Library/1Lib1Ref/Resources/Organizers Guide and The Wikipedia Library/1Lib1Ref/Case Studies, but the translate markup doesn´t work. Can you review it?. Thank you in advance. --Rodelar (talk) 15:08, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
- Hello Rodelar, thank you for your help with the translations. I've tagged and marked the pages for translations --AVasanth (WMF) (talk) 16:36, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you @AVasanth (WMF): I´ll translate them too. --Rodelar (talk) 23:57, 15 January 2019 (UTC)
