DC Neighborhoods
editPeter - I appreciate the popular and widely used map of DC neighborhoods you made. However, I'm curious what your source has been for drawing the lines? I'm a resident of Petworth, but your map shows my home (and half of Petworth) in 16th Street Heights. As far as I can tell, your lines for Petworth correspond to Tax Neighborhood designation, but not to City Neighborhood designation or any locally popular definition.
Note, for instance, that your lines exclude the Petworth Library from the neighborhood, although most of my neighbors would agree that's the center of the 'hood.
Thanks!
- Fair point! What are the City Neighborhood designations, though? I've never heard of them, and have a hunch that they at least weren't around when I made the map! --Peterfitzgerald 15:57, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Logo variants
editHi Peter,
thanks for the effort you took to create variations. Could you put them into James proposal section on the Logo talk page?
Cheers --Der Reisende (talk) 16:00, 19 December 2012 (UTC)
Balloon
editHi Peter, I have updated the gallery with your proposal, but it still looks small, probably because the letters are taking so much space. Do you think you could make them smaller? Thanks! --Micru (talk) 19:32, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
- Ha! I just did that ;) Great minds... --Peter Talk 19:32, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
- He, he :) Yes, that one looks much better. Thanks for the concern!--Micru (talk) 19:35, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
More colors for balloon logo
edit- Could you please do several versions of it in official Wikimedia colors and in turqoise-green-blue palette as here? Ain92 (talk) 10:23, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
- I tried the turquoise-green-blue palette per your suggestion, and I think it looks nice, but still not quite as nice as the more "crisp" green scheme. I tried playing with the "WMF colors," but I don't think those work at all with the balloon. They look like they belong on an angular Wikidata style logo, not a curvy, whimsical design like the fantasy balloon. I also have concerns that those colors are usually used for meta projects, not content projects. --Peter Talk 17:43, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
- Please look at black and white versions of both variants and you'll see that the rightmost (yellowish) part looks more pale then its analogue in "cyan" version. Similar things happens with 32- and 16-pixel icons. Ain92 (talk) 17:56, 18 August 2013 (UTC)
- Funny you should mention this--I just right now uploaded a slightly different color for the right front band. Does it look better? I think it stands out better in the favicon version in particular, where I have also enlarged the basket. --Peter Talk 17:59, 18 August 2013 (UTC)
- Well, the difference is so slight that I hardly noticed it. The basket enlargement is more evident, however. Ain92 (talk) 20:14, 18 August 2013 (UTC)

Balloon logo variants
editHi, Peter.
I'm really sorry to have to tell you that there is an issue with the balloon logo variants. While the legal team isn't done with its review, they've disqualified the variants of the fantasy balloon. The new shape of the baskets make the design less distinguishable for trademark registration purposes. Likewise, they say we need to avoid the color blue on this design. They do say that we can include the Lenka Stabilo font with the original balloon design if we want for the final vote.
Again, I'm really sorry to have to bear bad news. I think the new designs are pretty stunning. --Maggie Dennis (WMF) (talk) 23:44, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
- No problem, I've responded here. --Peter Talk 03:08, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- I appreciate your willingness to submit a new variant, Peter. :) Legal has finished its review now, and we're going to launch the new vote as soon as you have that prepared, I believe, since 00:01 is horrible timing for poor User:Rillke, who has been helping with this just because he's awesome. Please be careful with any modifications you do to the design. While the trapezoid basket is a major issue, I asked about the rectangular version and was told that it can't be used, either. Can you please drop a note on Rillke's user talk when you're done? I'm going to be away from my keyboard for much of the day, I'm afraid. --Maggie Dennis (WMF) (talk) 12:31, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- Excuse me, but what do the legal team say about the suitcase instead of basket? Ain92 (talk) 19:44, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
- I took Maggie's comment about the rectangular version to refer to the suitcase. --Peter Talk 19:45, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
