Something wrong with TranslationsVolBot
editUsers choosing "Language - Chinese" in this form are wrongly categorized into "yue - 粵語 - Yue Chinese" on the translation hub page. Pls fix this, thx. :) --Kuailong 12:23, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'm pretty sure I know what the bug is and how to fix it. I implemented a temporary fix and will fix the bot once the banners come down. I will go back through the page and put users under the correct heading. Pgehres (WMF) 17:34, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

Mobile Readers Survey
editHi there. I just see the mobile reader survey central notice went live. However I noticed that Singapore is not included - I suggest that to be included because it has a large proportion of Chinese and English native speakers. - The Mobile Readers Survey is actually not mine. I was asked to keep an eye on its allocation, but you should contact Cbrown1023 or Mani Pande with questions. Sitesupport URL in small wikis
editAbout this changes (and similar in other small wikipedias).
New donation URL] with parameter "uselang={{CONTENTLANGUAGE}}" leads to a combination of Russian and English texts (and nothing else - in the Udmurt language). This situation is typical for all "small" Wikipedia editions on languages of "small" ethnic groups in Russia ( av, ba, bxr, cv, ce, kbd, krc, kv, koi, lbe, lez, mhr, mdf, mrj, myv, os, sah, tt, udm, vep, xal, ).
Fundraising pages rarely translated into such "small" languages. However, wiki-users and readers of these Wikipedia editions usually speak and read Russian. It would be convenient and well, if in the absence of translation in such language, to substitute a Russian translation. Because I see that text of fundraising page for Udmurt (and others) is still partially displayed in Russian, I think that it is possible to make such a substitution for the other texts? It might be easier to replace the "uselang=ru" in these wikis?--Kaganer (talk) 09:28, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

We are going to try and implement a fallback system for the appeals so that they will get the language if we have it, fallback to Russian, then to English. - We want to use the fallbacks that are already used for messages. They are configured in the Messages file for each language. For example, for av and ba, in the files MessagesAv.php on line 17 and MessagesBa.php on line 23, you can see that
$fallback='ru';
is already set. This should keep everything consistent inside Mediawiki and allow the i18n and localization teams to keep us up to date with the correct fallbacks. The appeal fallback system will be deployed on donate.wikimedia.org. - They should use "//upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/foundation/2/20/CloseWindow19x19.png" now instead (which will not disappear). This is the URL that the "Insert close button" will add to the banner (although I know most people just copy the code from old banners). Kaldari (talk) 05:48, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Pgehres. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Pgehres~metawiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
