WMA Writing for Open Source event
editHello Benedict! I learned recently about the WMA - Writing for Open Source and Contributing to OS through Articles event, and shared it in the "open source" channel of the Write the Docs Slack. A couple people there were interested and are asking whether the event will be online, and whether it will be recorded. Are these details already known? It would be nice to add these sorts of details to the event page so that interested people can prepare for it :) Cheers, Waldyrious (talk) 12:55, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Waldyrious, thank you for sharing this. Yes the event is online(Zoom) and the link will be included on the page closer to the event date. The page was sort of still in its draft mode initially but now the registration have been enabled and all interested participants can register on the event page. Once again thank you for your interest in this. Udehb-WMF (talk) 14:15, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
- Awesome, thanks! I've relayed this info to the people who had asked. As for whether the event will be recorded — is that something that's known already, or is that going to be determined later as well? Waldyrious (talk) 13:26, 24 July 2024 (UTC)
- yes the session will be recorded and uploaded on the event page afterwards - Udehb-WMF (talk) 14:56, 24 July 2024 (UTC)

Input method
editDear Udehb,
You seem to have enabled Input methods. This tool allows to type special characters onwiki. While typing English, the main symptom is Colons (:) are replaced with Modifier Letter Triangular Colons (ː). Pressing Ctrl+M (Cmd+M on Mac) should you help switching to normal input. 🙂

- Hi @Pols12, can you help me confirm if its fixed? as i tried replacing the Modifier Letter Triangular Colon with regular Colon Udehb-WMF (talk) 10:28, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
- Indeed, this edit is fine, thank you! 🙂 -- Pols12 (talk) 15:17, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
Internationalization
editSome advice about editing translatable pages:
- Each empty line create a new unit: there is no need to add
</translate>
to close the unit. Since the following paragraph is a new unit, we can start tvar names at 1 again, we should not continue previous numbering. - When you edit a paragraph, if you keep a significative content, please do not remove the unit marker (
<!--T:xx-->
). Else, already done translation are lost instead of being only tagged as “outdated”. - Headings should be distinct units, including equal signs: we should not add translate tags inside heading syntax in most cases. That allows to make anchored links works through translations.
- We should avoid trailing spaces between end of content and closing translate tag.

- Thank you so much @Pols12, this is really helpful Udehb-WMF (talk) 18:18, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
