Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat

Meta-Wiki has a small active community. When a normal user requires the assistance of an administrator or bureaucrat for some particular task, it is not always easy to find one. This page helps users find one when they need one; asking specific admins directly via their talk pages is one way to elicit a fast response. It is only for assistance required at Meta-Wiki, help for other wikis needs to be requested at those wikis.

2600:1003:B400:0:0:0:0:0/40 (talk • contribs • deleted contribs • logs • filter log • block user • block log • GUC • CA) is an IP range used by now globally banned User:Shāntián Tàiláng, once again. There are no other editors on this range, and they've just tried to evade their ban again (see earlier report). — SURJECTION / T / C / L / 17:42, 24 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

There does need to be a process for first-party appeals of global bans - the current one of a request for comment necessarily involves evading the ban. I thought about deleting the RfC and blocking on-sight when pinged, but I didn't partially because of involvement concerns and partially because of that. * Pppery * it has begun 17:44, 24 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
The system is broken if RFCs are a means to do this. Anyone who has had to deal with this user will realize that they will do this obsessively (such as every single month) and ping everyone involved. It's basically harassment. — SURJECTION / T / C / L / 17:46, 24 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
On the other hand, what are such users supposed to do to appeal their ban? Their only recourse would be to email stewards@wikimedia.org. Leaderboard (talk) 17:53, 24 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
^-- that likely. And unless there was some egregious error that we determine during the ticket triage, prepare for a long wait. The appeals queue is quite deep, mostly from with LTA users. — xaosflux Talk 19:04, 24 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
I suppose a systemic governance failure could be reported to UC4 as well..... — xaosflux Talk 19:05, 24 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
I nominated it for speedy deletion. — xaosflux Talk 19:06, 24 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Could someone please update global bans#Overturning a global ban decision to describe the correct process the stewards want to use for first-party global ban appeals then? Not that I expect Shāntián Tàiláng to be unbanned (despite having opposed the request), but procedural fairness matters. * Pppery * it has begun 04:11, 25 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Anyway I've blocked the IP now, since we all seem to be in agreement that the IPs edits aren't the proper process. * Pppery * it has begun 04:12, 25 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Event organiser rights for Ariba (DCW)

edit

Hello, I'm requesting for permanent event organiser rights to support event management at DCW alongside my role associated with the DCW Conversation Hour. I'm part of the DCW's executive board, and have had the event organiser rights since November 2024. Thank you. [IP address redacted. —DerHexer (Talk) 15:04, 1 April 2025 (UTC)] 14:40, 1 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

@User:Ariba (DCW), can you confirm that this request is coming from you? It seems you may have been logged out when you made the request. Ternera (talk) 14:41, 1 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
I confirm this is me and I also request to hide the IP address. I believe it happened unintentionally. Sorry for the inconvenience. Ariba (DCW) (talk) 14:46, 1 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
