WMB once again took part in this year's commemoration of the World Hearing Day,[1] actively supporting the activities that engaged the editing community in creating and disseminating Wikipedia articles about hearing health.[2] The campaign's objective was to enhance Wikipedia with accurate, scientific information and had several supporter organizations involved. The goal of the activities was to improve Wikipedia content related to hearing, auditory health services, hearing tests, and preventive and treatment interventions. Participants were also incentivized to translate Wikipedia pages of these topics from English into other languages.

In total, we had more than 500 edits from 72 editors, that created or edited more than 150 articles. More than 51 words and 400 references were added, resulting in more than 1 million views.[3][4][5][2]

Survey on the needs of Research Groups at Wikiversity

WMB has conducted a survey on the usage and needs of Research Groups using WikiEducation tools on Wikiversity.[6] The objective was to diagnose, improve, and expand the use of these groups with Wikiversity's infrastructure.

This activity aligns with the WMB strategy of reimagining the sociotechnical infrastructure of the Wikimedia Movement, providing insights to enhance Wikiversity's capacity to better accommodate a larger number of Scientific Research Groups in Brazil.

The research yielded qualitative information on the functionalities researchers find lacking and provided support for developing a technical structure to meet their needs. Quantitatively, 263 research groups were contacted via questionnaire and email, 63 of which already use Wikiversity.[6]

During the year of 2024, WMB strategy of fostering and diversifying partnerships for open knowledge in Brazil has been focused on the promotion of Wikiversity as a backbone platform for academic research groups to share open resources and conduct collective research activities.

As part of the initiative, we have made efforts to develop a tool enhancing the usability of Wikiversity by research groups, create an engagement plan with research associations, and implement a promotional strategy to involve at least three research groups. Key achievements include the creation of an automated Research Group Page Generator integrated with Wikidata,[7] improving accessibility for a broad audience. Quantitatively, partnerships were formalized with three research groups,[8][9][10] and an engagement plan was established to ensure the adoption, evaluation, and improvement of the tool, supported by direct meetings and follow-up from the WMB team.[11]
