"World Famous People" Edit-a-thon
editWikimedia Armenia organized a new competition-edit-a-thon contest entitled "World Famous People" on April 9-23 within the framework of Wikiclubs. The aim of the competition was to create new articles about people of different nationalities in the Armenian Wikipedia through joint teamwork, trying to ensure the geographical diversity in the created articles.
The competition was divided into three stages, each lasting 5 days. Each stage was dedicated to people with different specialties. Teams of 5 people formed by Wikiclubs took part in the competition. Each Wikiclub could represent more than one team. The participants accepted the idea of the new project with great enthusiasm and took an active part in it.
In the first round, participants wrote articles about the Americas concentrating on travelers, sailors, and inventors, in the second stage, they wrote articles about writers from Africa, and in the third stage, they wrote articles about politicians, artists, and artists from Asia, Australia, and Oceania.
A total of 53 participants from 11 teams took part in the competition. The articles created by the participants were reviewed by their Wikiclub coordinators. During the competition, the participants were provided with lists related to the relevant topics.
As a result of the contest, 480 articles were created by the participants in the Armenian Wikipedia, with a total size of 3,747,874 bytes. During the edit-a-thon, 64 articles about women were created by the participants. During the competition, emphasis was placed on teamwork, the quality of the articles created, the quantity, the volume of work done, and the relevance to the topic of the competition. As a result of the edit-a-thon-competition, 142 new articles were created in the Armenian Wikipedia about the people of the Americas, 157 articles about the people of Africa, and 181 articles about the people of Asia, Australia, and Oceania.
