Online Wikipedia courses
editWikimedia Armenia has organized Summer Wikipedia training from 1 July to 31 July 2021. The training was especially for teachers, but it was also for everyone who wanted to join the Wikimedia community.
The program is divided into two parts - the training itself and the editing part. The second part ends on 31 of September. In this part, after the training, the participants must continue editing Wikipedia themselves. Of course, the community and the trainers are always ready to help them. At the end of September, the active participants will be awarded certificates.
The participants were divided into 7 groups. 4 trainers worked with their groups. They organized their meeting mostly via Zoom, met 2-3 times a week. The meetings lasted about 2 hours, the duration depended on the topic and the number of questions asked by the participants. Besides Wikipedia, the participants also get acquainted with other Wikimedia projects like Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata.
112 people applied for participation, out of which 84 participants have joined our community. And 45 participants have been actively editing from the beginning of the training till now.
During the first part of our program 217 articles were created, 2,399,509 bytes have been contributed in Armenian Wikipedia.
At the end of the training, a meeting with everyone was organized including the trainers and the president of Wikimedia Armenia. The aim of this final meeting was to encourage the participants to continue editing and participating in our future programs.
