Focus month(s)
editI am curious if holding Wiki Loves Pride in multiple months makes the most sense, or if we should just focus on June. Thoughts?
--Varnent (talk)(COI) 04:26, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
- Maybe outline when nations celebrate pride/LGBT history? Certainly June in the United States. As a "soft launch", you might consider focusing efforts on a few specific nations. Maybe start with a few in June, then see if you can build additional momentum with other nations in October, after seeing what was and was not successful in June? --Another Believer (talk) 22:13, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
- I just returned from Mumbai Pride, which happens in February. Summers in India are dangerously hot so they do it during the best weather. I do not think it is entirely right to say that pride events are traditionally held at any given time a year; whatever this group does need not be connected to any country's own pride calendar. Blue Rasberry (talk) 15:34, 19 February 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, I think it should be decided whether "WLP" would be more successful as one massive push, much like Wiki Loves Monuments or Wiki Loves Libraries, or if it can just focus on different countries/regions at various times of the year. --Another Believer (talk) 23:46, 19 February 2013 (UTC)
- What about, as a sort of evolved form of the original concept, if Wikimedia LGBT focuses on one month, but then supports a WLP structure that Chapters, Thematic Orgs, WikiProjects can then use any time of the year. That allows chapters to do things in their country when it is most appropriate, and gives Wikimedia LGBT a specific time period it can focus its efforts on - again - even though it would be providing support to any WLP efforts all year-long. I'd need to rewrite that in a better explanation, but I hope you get where I'm going with that thought process. Is that a possible compromise including all the input? --Varnent (talk)(COI) 23:53, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Pride 2014 at English Wikipedia
editGetting the ball rolling with the following pages:
My understanding is that there are planned events for NYC and Seattle as well. I have setup appropriate categories and templates as well, to be used going forward. Any assistance with outreach and organizing events in your city would be much appreciated. --Another Believer (talk) 17:55, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
See Grants:IdeaLab/Wiki Loves Pride 2014. Any comments, feedback, concerns appreciated. Thanks! --Another Believer (talk) 17:56, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
Artwork?
editAny assistance with generating artwork and other visual content for Wiki Loves Pride would be helpful. Banners, wiki globes, ads, etc. Once created, we can have a Commons category, commons:Category:Wiki Loves Pride. --Another Believer (talk) 17:58, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
de.Wikipedia
editNot sure if there is a way to incorporate this page/link somehow: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wiki_Loves_Pride. --Another Believer (talk) 18:25, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
Participants page
editIs the participants page meant to be general, or specific to the 2013 campaign (which was pretty much nonexistent)? In other words, should the 2013 references be updated to 2014, or removed altogether? --Another Believer (talk) 04:10, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- Resolved. --Another Believer (talk) 05:00, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
Spanish translation
editPlease see this comment regarding the inability to insert translations for two headings. The translator provided the translations, but was unable to include them in the page:

Contextualize
editHi. I support this cause but I'd like to offer a minor criticism here that might be getting overlooked. The name 'Wiki loves Pride', specifically 'Pride' mostly makes sense in context of American LGBT movement. It has been shortened from LGBT pride to now just pride in colloquial use. Outside the US, the message here is very likely to be lost - pride alone is too ambiguous and vague to carry the same connotations. At first reading, and without context, I thought this was alluding to one of the seven deadly sins, ostentation or even a group of lions. The dictionary does not list any inferable reference to the LGBT community when one looks up pride. I'm sure this might not be a problem in US, but if this project/campaign is copied in any other country, there is high likelihood of confusion, not to mention translating this in other languages would compound the problem several fold. I hope this helps. Regards. Theo10011 (talk) 13:18, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
- Theo10011 The US and Europe use the word "pride" to mean "LGBT issues". India uses it as well. Hong Kong uses it, as does Brazil. Australia users the word. I think that "pride" is the word claimed by LGBT people everywhere to mean "LGBT issues".
- There is no doubt that America is disproportionately influential in LGBT activism. Even in Europe pride is celebrated on Christopher Street Day, which is an American concept.
- Do you have any leads on other words which could potentially be used? With acceptance in all those places I listed, it seems to me that at least "pride" is a workable option. Are you suggesting that it ought to be "Wiki Loves LGBT Pride"? Blue Rasberry (talk) 12:14, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Bluerasberry. I can see your point but I might dispute a couple of examples you provided - As an Indian, there was momentary confusion as to what pride was being celebrated here - it could be nationalistic, ethnic or any other form without some form of descriptor. Even the couple of examples you do provide, mention either Gay pride or LGBT pride in original sources. My thinking was directed towards translating this in a dozen or so languages - my concern was the literal translation for 'pride' might make things confusing in other languages. Anyway, I just wanted to bring it to someone's attention. Thanks. Theo10011 (talk) 14:36, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
Page formatting help
editI was trying to cross-link pages and saw this Meta Wiki Love Pride page has odd formatting in size and code that I cannot fix. Can anybody else do it? It may be an easy fix for a member of our community who knows a little more about coding than I do. FULBERT (talk) 10:32, 2 June 2018 (UTC)
Wiki Loves Pride 2022
editAre there activities planned for Wiki Loves Pride 2022. In South Africa we (WikimediaZA) are planning to run a series of edit workshop with LGBTQ organisations in June. However, we want to do this within a bigger campaign. Bobbyshabangu (talk) 04:37, 19 May 2022 (UTC)
- Editors at English Wikipedia have started collaborating at en:Wikipedia:Wiki Loves Pride/2022. I'm not aware of any in-person activities scheduled yet. -Another Believer (talk) 04:41, 19 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Bobbyshabangu, @Another Believer, Thanks for starting this discussion. We are planning to organize the (first) LGBT+ history month in Francophone Wikipedia. Details here: Wiki Loves Pride/History month and Mois des fiertés 2022. The goal is to organize online and offline edit-a-thons, document and share LGBTQ+ relevant topics. It will be great if we coordinate our efforts for the greater visibility of our different activities. John Samuel 05:57, 19 May 2022 (UTC)
- Awesome! let me know if there are office hours or meetings in progress to organise this. Also, if you need to contact me directly, you can do so via bobby.shabangu@wikimedia.org.za Bobbyshabangu (talk) 00:31, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
LGBT and Wikipedia
editOver at English Wikipedia, I've thrown en:LGBT and Wikipedia into the main space to see what happens (seems to me there should be an entry about the intersection of LGBT + Wikipedia). I've disclosed having a general COI on the talk page. I invite editors to help expand and improve.
Thanks! -Another Believer (talk) 19:07, 20 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Another Believer Thanks for starting this page. It's very important since many local Wikimedia chapters and user groups have worked on improving the LGBT+ related content on Wikipedia and Wikimedia projects. I have added some Wikipedia for Peace events held with EuroPride and World Pride events. John Samuel 18:30, 21 January 2023 (UTC)
Wiki Loves Pride campaign on different Wikis
editWiki Loves Pride campaign encourages development of LGBT+ related content in celebratory, coordinated and collaborative way.
It is important especially for smaller language instances to fill this content gap and make sure basic information exists. For many small wikis it is only point in the year when LGBT+ contributors may experience also that they are part of greater global movement and might recognize allies among other (straight and LGBT+) peers.
It seems that different wikis (example: GR) and their users might react differently on the proposal of localizing and executing the global Wiki Loves Campaign.
I would be interested to discuss what are the points of concern and what could be minimums to retain safety, inclusion and ideally productive atmosphere. Please join in discussion using your native language on the Forum as it offers GoogleTranslation feature. Quite a few people have already done so. Thank you! Zblace (talk) 06:18, 12 October 2023 (UTC)
