Welcome to Meta!
editHello, Zblace. Welcome to the Wikimedia Meta-Wiki! This website is for coordinating and discussing all Wikimedia projects. You may find it useful to read our policy page. If you are interested in doing translations, visit Meta:Babylon. You can also leave a note on Meta:Babel or Wikimedia Forum if you need help with something (please read the instructions at the top of the page before posting there). Happy editing!
Invitation to share your ideas on Wikimedia’s Innovation Idea Wall
editDear @Zblace:
Thank you for being part of our, the Innovation team at Wikimedia Deutschland's, journey in developing a new innovation format for the Movement this far (you can read more about it here:Re-imagining_UNLOCK). As we are moving along with our process, we would love to hear your ideas on how to address the challenges that you have helped us identify – challenges that are keeping us from fostering innovation in our communities.
To facilitate collaborative ideation, we have created an Innovation Idea Wall—a virtual space where you can freely scribble down your ideas whenever you find a moment of inspiration. We believe that by putting together the collective wisdom and creativity of Wikimedians like yourself, we can unlock new possibilities for innovation in our Movement.
To access the Innovation Idea Wall, simply follow this link [1]. You will be directed to our concept board, an online whiteboard, where you will find the instructions on how to get started. We assure you that the process is easy to follow along. In brief, we have formulated some questions that we invite you to brainstorm on – any idea is welcome! Your opinions matter greatly to us, as we firmly believe that Wikimedians possess the firsthand knowledge and expertise needed to identify the necessary improvements in our approach to innovation.
We look forward to watching this Idea Wall grow over the coming weeks. The idea wall will be accessible until July 3rd.
Best regards, Sissela Björk (WMDE) (talk) 16:03, 12 June 2023 (UTC)

The Wikimedia LGBTQ+ User Group is holding online working days in May. If you’re an active Wikimedian, editing on LGBTQ+ issues or if you identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community, come help us set goals, develop our organisation and structures, consider how to respond to issues faced by Queer editors, and plan for the next 12 months.
We will be meeting online for 3 half-days, 14–16 May at 1400–1730 UTC. While our working language is English, we are looking to accommodate users who would prefer to participate in other languages, including translation facilities.

Help with translation
editHello Zblace, I am User:T Cells from the Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos campaign. I'd like to thank you for your translation support in the 2020 edition. The campaign was a huge success and that would not have been possible without your support. The Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos 2021 starts on the 1st of July and we need your help with the translation of the campaign page and the central banner text.

editScope and continuing discussion
editHey Zblace. Thank you for your concerns as they relate to the usage of Talk:Croatian Wikipedia Disinformation Assessment-2021 for discussion. After my note on scope, it seems the vast majority of discussion is centered on the Disinformation Assessment itself, which is optimal. If it wasn't, I might have considered leaving another note, but please remember that the point of talk pages are to discuss. If discussion strays a bit from the main page's topic, it may be a good idea to move it elsewhere (especially if it seeks to gain consensus for something, like a proposal, which would necessitate a proper RfC location and notices). And yes, you are correct in that Meta is not strictly organized; most pages are scattered across mainspace or Meta-space, and though there are large category/subpage networks that make navigation easier, there are no central guidelines for linking all pages to one index. However, when it comes to discussions that intend to result in Meta or global consensus, like RfCs or consultations, those are strictly organized and even listed on the main page. Reorganizing Meta-Wiki would be a very significant task that may be looked into someday, but I do not think criticizing Meta-Wiki as a whole is reasonable for not having active administrators strictly critiquing the scope of content on a Foundation assessment talk page. Vermont (talk) 16:19, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
- I hope you do not mind me answering in-line as you do write lenghty and not necessairly anything polemical and worth discussing IMHO. Thank you for aknowledging that I am correct about some things. We obviously and easily disagree on judging what is adequate for Meta or elsewhere, but unlike you I think more than one position is valid and reasonable to be voiced even when critical. That is just my non-anglosaxon culture in which things are more explicit and critique can be absorbed. Lets keep it at unresolvable differences. --Zblace (talk) 19:10, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
As I noted I do work a full-time job, and I have been only sporadically active lately because of it, and have not been able to read over and promote constructive discussion to the extent that I would like to. You are completely right; people who come back after three or four days to a discussion to find another multiple thousand words to read are greatly disadvantaged compared to those who followed it along throughout. And people who do not speak English fluently, the primary language of discussion on Meta-Wiki, are greatly disadvantaged compared to those who can easily understand the content, nuance, and peculiar phrases of English-language discussion. Vermont (talk) 16:19, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you. --Zblace (talk) 19:10, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
Regarding that which you refer to as "personal accusations", those are not accusations, those are statements of fact. Up until this point I had not fully described the situation to anyone other than other admins and checkusers. Now I believe I am obligated to do so. Vermont (talk) 16:19, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
- I am sorry this added to your workload, but I was not interested in discussing this on a talk page bewteen two of us as relation has jaded and your perspective is limited to your immediate interests of 'good-governance' in rigid interpretation of what/when/how/where Admininstrator-Sysop-Checkuser should act. --Zblace (talk) 19:10, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
As I understand it, back in early February of this year you wanted to see how the Simple English Wikipedia handled LGBT content, supposedly both for a then-upcoming meeting with T&S and for a possible translation drive. Your idea to test this was to create User:QueerSport (since renamed to QueerSEE) to create simple:QueerSportSplit. The username is a violation of username guidelines, and your new account was blocked on the English Wikipedia for it. It took a few days for your account to be blocked for the same reason on the Simple English Wikipedia. Vermont (talk) 16:19, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
- True I was not aware of that rule and was also not objecting to it much once I realized how rigid it is. --Zblace (talk) 19:10, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
In that few day period, the article you created was nominated for deletion due to its questionable notability. Your responses were immediately hostile and nearly all of your replies to editors in that RfD included personal attacks or blatant insults. Vermont (talk) 16:19, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
- That is neither the Truth, nor the whole truth and nothing but the truth...you fail to see havoc raised by the user who went across multiple Wikipedia, Commons and Wikidata projects acusing me of cross-wiki spam. Statements (and actions) that was later retracted, but was never apologized for and Simple and EN admins never aknowledged. Unlike on other projects. That was tolareted and no panelty or warning was given to that user + troll that was following *(that was blocked already on 6 Wikis, and that later took pride in taking me down with him into status of banned on Simple). --Zblace (talk) 19:10, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
At this point, for some reason, you thought it to be a good idea to email me trying to explain the situation. In this email, you made it clear that your intention was basically to run a experiment. These are your words:
"My intention was to test a bit how Simple Wikipedia could be used instead of EN Wikipedia for translation across different CEE Wikipedia instances (mostly curious how hard is notability for queer and regional content from South East Europe I plan for the upcoming CEE Spring 2021 translations)."
You also said, in the same email:
"I know it is not conventional way to prove something is problematic but I acted hastily after midnight as I wanted to have a proof for meeting with the Trust and Safety team..."
Later, you wrote this on the talk page of the account you made for this experiment:
"This account was briefly used on Simple Wikipedia for the research purpose."
Considering the above, I believe "social experiment" is an accurate description of your initial intentions. Vermont (talk) 16:19, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
- No. If you check Wikipedia for what is 'social experiment' it is not a random combination of test and research. Aside from that using the wording 'socila experiment' sounds very manipulative, while I did nothing of sort, but started building a page entries for queer content from CEE region across projects. I had no control group or was in any way being in control of conditions. If anyone it was you who could stop, pause or escalation of provocations and conflict, but you kept silent and only mentioned it once you decided to block me. Which I do not mind that much as Simple Wikipedia was disapointing and that is OK. I would have stopped using it anyway. I just did not listen to advices of people not to invest efforts there. --Zblace (talk) 19:10, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
Soon after, your new account was blocked as a username violation by another administrator. You then joined the RfD discussion on your main account (User:Zblace), continuing the personal attacks and insults against editors who disagree with you. Multiple editors asked you to stop engaging in these personal attacks and insults, including myself, and you blatantly ignored those warnings. (On a side note, the RfD was closed as keep and another editor in the RfD, one you were at odds with, was blocked for incivility on their part as well) Vermont (talk) 16:19, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
- It is funny that you call this person an editor (did you even see his pervious work and toxic behaviour all the way)...if you were to act on this after reading when and how he was responding I would maybe be less upset by how Simple functions, but no you only did it post-festum, when it was irrelevant for all and I already wasted few nights of good sleep over the supression of content and provocations made. --Zblace (talk) 19:10, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
I imposed a block on your account for incivility and personal attacks, leaving a note in the block summary for other admins to consult the CU team before considering appeal, as it does involve a sockpuppet of yours. Your responses to my block notice on your talk page are too convoluted for me to attempt to properly summarize here, so here's a link. Among other things, you accused me of "Anglo-centrism", attempted to pass off your conduct as deciding the Simple English Wikipedia has a bad "atmosphere", and claimed the project was not welcoming enough. To clarify, as at the time I did not respond: You are completely correct, we are not welcoming to people who engage in personal attacks and incivility.
Vermont (talk) 16:19, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
- Whatever. You are amazing bunch...I am wrong from acusing you of being predominantly monolingual anglophones. We agree to disagree. --Zblace (talk) 19:10, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
After the short discussion on your talk page had settled, you placed the following sentence at the top of the page:
"EXPECTING MARGINALIZED PEOPLES TO DISREGARD THEIR OWN EMOTIONS TO CALMLY EDUCATE YOU IS THE EPITOME OF ENTITLEMENT."
Again, to clarify: You were not blocked because you are part of a marginalized group. (the same marginalized group I am also a part of) You were blocked because your conduct was completely unacceptable and would have resulted in a block on any project with any semblance of a civility policy. Using your identity groups to attempt to whitewash your conduct is incredibly offensive to people who are actually subject to such discrimination. Vermont (talk) 16:19, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
- I think there i sno point in arguing this with you as we basically disagree in complexity of what happened and what is adequate. I am happy never to touch Simple (until it maybe becomes what it claimed to be), so we should be both well off keeping distance. --Zblace (talk) 19:10, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
I believe this is an accurate summary of events leading up to and shortly after your block. When you described my comment on the Disinformation Assessment talk page relating to your past issues as "in-correct" and "not-documented", it seemed necessary to write a proper summary that people can read to understand the issues involved. Apologies for the length, I did not want to give a partial summary.
Regards, Vermont (talk) 16:19, 24 June 2021 (UTC) Vermont (talk) 16:19, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
- Even with this lenght you omitted order and time of your (in)action as well as what was happening on other projects over related content + mentioning any other user names. Painting me conflictual and problematic in (your) understanding of black-and-white norms is for sure something I will always opose as a simplification that comes from the central place of power and priviledge *(regardless of ones sexual practices/identities) as this is a matter of cultural, social and communication norms for which you think should be calibrated to your pitch. I really hope you do not move into more projects and insist on your understanding of 'civility' as the cetral, if not only and ultimate norm.
BTW, just to let you know in LGBT+ UG you do not have impecable reputation from way before interacting with me, it is just that others are 'civil' to not raise that.
Regards, --Zblace (talk) 19:10, 24 June 2021 (UTC)
- Hey Zblace. I have a relatively short response to your comments above.
- This is indeed relative. --Zblace (talk) 11:44, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
- I had a very positive opinion of you, and even considered you a colleague/friend, before the incident on that RfD.
- This is also part of the problem. You have narrow attention focus (on incident) and limited interest in wider context (basically, RfD only)...you fail to realize that my effort and work is a cross-wiki, cross-cultural and my frustration with you as authority is that you ignored incidents that other users were making for me before and during this RfD. But that is your priviledge of following the 'by the book' rules and remaining ignorant of effects of their actions of at least 5 other wikis (among which are super complex and sensitive ones like HR and SH Wikipedia). --Zblace (talk) 11:44, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
- I'm hoping you remember our positive and productive email conversations prior to that incident; you even contacted me directly about the RfD issue, and before I saw what you had written there about other contributors I had every intention of helping you.
- I have no idea how was I to get that you were to help me? You never said anything. Including objections to my 'hasty' experiments...or maybe you think help is something you give after things are obvious? Pardon me for sounding cynical, but it is hard not to be now, as I feel this leans to patronizing, rather than collegial/friendly input you reference above. --Zblace (talk) 11:44, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
- However, after revieiwng your conduct, which involved numerous personal attacks and outright hostile statements, including but not limited to accusing editors (multiple of whom happen to be LGBT+) of being homophobic, calling people "inadequate", referring to another editor as "hysterical", describing those who disagreed with you as "voices of suppression", directly stating that Simple English Wikipedia editors are fascists and colluding with fascists, and other issues, there was no other option but to place a block on your account.
- I will not comment on generic interpretation and description of my own words, nor about WHEN and HOW you finally took action, as I thing both leave a lot to desire for to be considered well done work. You did next to nothing to remove or even warn people who did problematic actions and inputs across projects and also somewhat on that RfD. In that respect you acted not as well intended custodian, but a meer policing authority. --Zblace (talk) 11:44, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
- We have a civility policy on the Simple English Wikipedia and we (yes, the block was not only my idea) enforce it. My attempt with the above decriptions of your conduct was not to argue about what happened, but to state the chronological order of events leading up to your block. Your responses to me here do include some rather unkind and untrue statements (namely, accusing me of, as a result of me supposedly being anglo-saxon, being unable to view other sides of an argument. Again, I'm an Ashkenazi Jew, and regardless you cannot base an argument purely off another person's race.) involving assumptions and subsequent insinuations about my race, which is uncivil and offensive to an extreme degree, but I do not want this to be a further issue.
- Again I will not comment on what is not linked to exact cite, since it is your interpretation. If you feel I was discussing sexual orientation or race, you are totally wrong. I was discussing only queer as non-normative and anglo-saxon communication culture *(neither is dependent on your actual geneology or behavioral characteristics). Again this was your narrow interpretation of identity politics to which I do not subscribe. --Zblace (talk) 11:44, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
- I want us to return to communicating productively and positively, as that would be most beneficial for continued constructive contributing on issues of joint interest.
- You are welcome to communicate as you wish and (ab)use your authority as you wish. I have little motivation to spend even more time discussing this directly with you without moderator and other people that have broader interests and deeper incentives to research and understand than just make vague remarks of 'civility'.
- You Admin collective on Simple thinks I am problematic and that was the way to handle the situation. I think that Simple is problematic project and would no longer contribute until it is questioned and restored with its initial focus on non-native speakers and would de-center monolingual English natives. --Zblace (talk) 11:44, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
- And I do not like having my only contact with people being in an administrative, conduct-related capacity. A common saying is prevalent across some projects: focus on content, not contributors.
- I am sure that worked well to old-school pragmatics to create many of Wikis till know, but I am really into people-centeredness and this is where our perspectives are radically different. --Zblace (talk) 11:44, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
- That's a sure way to avoid personal attacks.
- I know almost nothing of you. All of my comments were to your (non)actions when performing power. You offered zero advice or assistance in your non-admin role. --Zblace (talk) 11:44, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
I want to work with you on this, and return to the point in our personal discourse where we could freely discuss issues of joint interest without the overbearing presence of insinuations of ulterior motives or personal attacks. I hope you agree with these intentions. Best, Vermont (talk) 02:33, 5 July 2021 (UTC)
- As stated before...I can not deal with this 1:1 as I feel like I am supposed to educate you at the cost of my emotional and intelectual labor, while you are both casual and in power and I am marked with a reference of a ban in a the Wiki you are responsible for. If there is capasity in WMF's Community Ressilaince team to deal with this I will do it, but not on my talk page and under your terms.
By the way I am also to move this to your page as I failed to answer in the classical way. --Zblace (talk) 11:44, 6 July 2021 (UTC)

Unblock request
edit
Unblock request granted
This blocked user asked to be unblocked, and one or more administrators has reviewed and granted this request. Request reason: Hi! It seems that my account here was blocked on August 26th with Block ID is #457088, and from the conversation with stewards Martin Urbanec and Tks4Fish it seems to have been a result of me doing IP editing while being under a global lock - for which I was informed later by Martin Urbanec is not allowed. As I never got instructions on what is allowed or not and I did not do any destructive or controversial editing I would ask for a revision of this and unlocking of my account here. Thank you Unblock reason: Regardless, as you have agreed to a one-account restriction, so long as you do not violate that I see no reason to continue keeping your main account blocked as a CU-block. As, considering past confusion, it may not be clear: this means no IP editing, no creating other accounts, no editing with someone else's account, no editing with or creating role accounts, no requesting grants with other accounts, and no editing at all with any IP address, or account other than this one. In line with that, your other accounts will not be unblocked. Best regards, Vermont (talk) 13:33, 15 September 2021 (UTC) This template should be archived normally. Hello Z. I have removed some of your comments from the Grants talk page on the basis of violating our behavioral guidelines for discussions regarding funding. I understand there are concerns around admin conduct on hr.wikipedia. The claims you are making about admins on hr.wikipedia are both sensitive and significant, but cannot be meaningfully evaluated by the Community Resources team. These concerns need to be resolved within your community or reported directly to Trust & Safety if you have not done so already. I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 20:24, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
- No problem. Thrust and Safety team is informed of most if not all and so are HR admins. Also I am happy to share more details when and where this is useful, but unfortunatly there seems to be no quick and simple solution as it is either outside of scope of T&S or capacities of HR. Until UCoC has inplementation guidlines it is a bit of unresolvable situation. --Zblace (talk) 20:32, 28 December 2021 (UTC)

Pozdrav. -Vipz (talk) 11:11, 3 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Vipz super. Rantanje nije problem. Sve najbolje. --Zblace (talk) 11:52, 3 April 2022 (UTC)

Your request at my Wikimedia Commons talk page
editDear @Zblace. On 2022-04-15 you asked me at Wikimedia Commons to unlock your talk page on the Croatian Wikipedia, where you're currently blocked from editing. I suggest we continue here. Since the block was issued *because* of the words said on that very page, I am reluctant to go against the will of the complaining administrator(s): first, I would feel responsible for everything you say if the communication problems continue, and second, I may not be impartial because of our previous (on- and off-wiki) collaboration on attracting and keeping new editors on that Wikipedia. Here's my best offer: you post here (in Croatian) whatever apology or request you want posted, I relay it to your hrwiki talk page, and we go on from there. I suggest we all move on (forgive and forget), in the hope that some lessons have been learnt on all sides of the recent conflicts in our shattered community. By communicating politely and respectfully, be the change you want to see there. Please. ponor (talk) 01:44, 18 April 2022 (UTC)
- Dear @Ponor if you think that is adequate, sure I am happy to do that both in English and Croatian. --Zblace (talk) 04:29, 18 April 2022 (UTC)

Wikisporadic Newsletter: September 2022
editWikisporadic, an Occasional Newsletter for our Germinating Community.
- Oral knowledge We held a session on oral knowledge and Wikispore as part of Options Space at Wikimedia Summit 2022 in Berlin, looking at options with several African affiliates to link out to cultural topics from Wikipedia(s). Some African communities are already doing oral knowledge documentation like the Nigerian community working on oral history as well as the growing Mozambican community working on oral history documentation in Makhuwa language. This is a way to provide more sources as well as digitize some oral parts of their history.
- Wikidata integration There is a plan to install the new UnlinkedWikibase extension, advancing the vision of Wikisprout and full Wikidata integration such as use in infoboxes.
- Movement strategy Using the Cargo and related extensions on Wikispore, work is underway to create a demo of Movement Strategy activities, adapting Baserow data from Wikimedia Summit.
- Halloween event As a Wikidata 10th Birthday event, there is hope to collaborate at the end of October with Wiki Cemeteries User Group on Grave Spore (see discussion), for maps and in-depth coverage of individual graves.

We need your feedback on a tool from the Wikimedia Summit
editHi! I'm contacting you as one of the participants in the Wikimedia Summit 2022, to kindly ask for your feedback through a 5-10 minute survey to evaluate 'Baserow' (note: the survey is on a Google form).
Baserow was a tool through which participants in the Summit co-created a database of Movement Strategy activities. We hope to learn from you how useful it may be to keep using it in the future to help document and connect on Movement Strategy work.
You are welcome and encouraged to fill out the survey in any language. Your feedback would be very appreciated --Abbad (WMF) (talk) 15:14, 16 February 2023 (UTC).

Personal Invitation to the Open Innovation Café of Wikimedia Deutschland
editHello @Zblace:
This year we are setting out on a journey to build a new format for the Wikimedia Movement, a safe space that will foster innovation and allow members of our community to experiment with and build new ideas for Free Knowledge. This is why we would like to extend a personal invitation to you to join our Open Innovation Café where we want to tell you all about what we are planning and how we would love you to be involved!
We are reaching out to people, affiliate representatives and Wikimedia community members who specifically indicated in some capacity that they are either working on or interested in innovation in the Wikimedia Movement and/or recommendation no. 9 “Innovate in Free Knowledge” of the Movement Strategy 2030. We will be a diverse, international group. The Café will be done in English and will be hosted by us. There is no preparation required, simply drop in as you are.
When and where will the Open Innovation Café take place? We will be running two identical open cafés, so choose the slot and time zone that suits you best:
- Open Innovation Café 1 on Tuesday, March 7th, 10:00-10:30 am CET: Access the Zoom call through this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86860546924?pwd=UWhGeHVSM1B1NzRybWJtQnEyN3NHdz09 Meeting ID: 868 6054 6924 Passcode: 752756 Add event to your calendar
- Open Innovation Café 2 on Wednesday, March 15th, 6:00-6:30pm CET: Access the Zoom call through this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86403799400?pwd=R3JLVlpENTlKNHFqQnVJRUpBV3J3QT09 Meeting ID: 864 0379 9400 Passcode: 859211 Add event to your calendar
We look forward to seeing you at the Open Innovation Café and diving deeper into this exciting, pan-Movement endeavor!
--Kannika Thaimai (WMDE) (talk) and Lucia Obst (WMDE) (talk) 15:09, 2 March 2023 (CET). Feel free to reach out to us at unlock@wikimedia.de
- Dear @Zblace:, We saw that you were not able to make it to our Open Innovation Café, but we have set up a page on Meta-Wiki documenting our Re-Imagining UNLOCK journey. So be sure to have a look at what we are planning and join any future discussions! In short: We are setting up a new innovation format for the WIkimedia Movement, but we cannot do this on our own!
- How can you get involved? We have created a quick 4-question survey (anonymous) that will help us in better understanding the needs and challenges of our Movement in innovating in Free Knowledge. This will form the basis of any new innovation format to take shape in the future. It would be wonderful if you could give us a few minutes of your time as we are grateful for any response.
- Many thanks for being a part of this journey. We are also happy to keep you in the loop of any future developments, outcomes of the survey and the next Open Café! Best wishes,--Lucia Obst (WMDE) (talk) 12:50, 16 March 2023 (UTC)

Queering Wikipedia 2023 conference
editWikimedia LGBT+ User Group and the organizing team of Queering Wikipedia is delivering the Queering Wikipedia 2023 Conference for LGBT+ Wikimedians and allies, as a hybrid, bilingual and trans-local event. It is online on 12, 14 and 17 May, the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia #IDAHOBIT, with offline events at around 10 locations on 5 continents in the 5-day span as QW2023 Nodes.
The online program is delivered as a series of keynotes, panels, presentations, workshops, lightning talks and creative interventions, starting on Friday noon (UTC) with the first keynote of Dr Nishant Shah entitled: I spy, with my little AI — Wikiway as a means to disrupt the ‘dirty queer’ impulses of emergent AI platforms. Second keynote is at Sunday’s closure by Esra’a Al Shafei, Wikimedia Foundation’s Board of Trustees vice chair, entitled: Digital Public Spaces for Queer Communities.
If you have been an active Wikimedian or enthusiast, supporting LGBT+ activities or if you identify as part of the larger LGBT+ community and allies in Wikimedia, please join us in advancing this thematic work. We encourage you to join online or in person with fellow Wikimedians if it is easy and safe to do so. Our working languages are English and Spanish, with possible local language support at sites of Nodes.
Registration for the online event is free and is open until Wednesday May 10th at 18:00 UTC, for safety protocol. Late event registration approval and event access denial is at the discretion of organizers.
More information, and registration details, may be found on Meta at QW2023
Thanks, from Wikimedia LGBT+ User Group via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:56, 9 May 2023 (UTC)

Wikimedians for Sustainable Development - December 2023 Newsletter
editDear Wikimedians for Sustainable Development,
As we bid farewell to 2023, we reflect on a year that has been an uneven year for our user group. While the journey has been marked by some truly inspiring events, most of our efforts have been largely uncoordinated and the user group hasn't been the support it could have been. Yet, there's a glimmer of hope and a world of potential for 2024.
Highlights of 2023:
- Newsletters Galore
- We kicked off the year with zeal, sharing updates and inspiration through four newsletters. The number of things happening in the movement is astounding, but we need to rethink the format of the newsletter going into the next year.
- Growing Strong
- The Wikimedians for Sustainable Development family welcomed 33 new members in 2023. Your passion and dedication continue to inspire us, and we look forward to nurturing this community spirit in the year ahead.
- Wikimania Talks
- Our voices echoed far and wide at Wikimania, where several members of our community took the virtual stage to share insights and ideas about everything from Wikipedians-in-Residence's to open data. Your contributions showcased our commitment to sustainable development on a global scale.
- Content Creation Magic
- Throughout the year, our extended community demonstrated incredible dedication to expanding the knowledge base on Wikipedia. Countless hours were spent creating and curating content that aligns with our mission, contributing to a more sustainable digital ecosystem.
- Campaigning hard
- We saw a large variety of campaigns, from writing challenges to editathons. The willingness to experiment with new formats and partners, as well as learning from past efforts, shows great promise for the future.
Acknowledging Challenges:
While we celebrate these achievements, we acknowledge that 2023 presented its fair share of challenges. A lack of global coordination reminded us that the road to sustainable development is not always linear. However, it is precisely these challenges that fuel our determination to work together more cohesively in the coming year and proof that the user group is needed.
Hopeful Anticipation for 2024:
As we turn the page to 2024, let's carry forward the lessons learned and the successes celebrated. We are optimistic that, with renewed energy and a collective commitment, we will overcome obstacles and create an even more impactful and connected Wikimedians for Sustainable Development community.
Here's to a year of collaboration, growth, and making a lasting impact on the world through our shared passion for sustainability. Together, we can turn challenges into opportunities and pave the way for a brighter future.
Wishing you all a joyous holiday season and a Happy New Year!
Warm regards, User:Ainali, User:Daniel Mietchen

As a member of the user group, you can attend this AGM by joining the association here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/134fW1N1yuQfsHURBfr8Moa3eAr3TBTzPoWEXqCCTrkg/viewform?edit_requested=true You will need to pay a membership fee to join the association, and your membership will be validated by the committee as soon as payment is received by bank transfer.
The membership fee is CHF 200 for external members who are not involved in the project. For volunteers who give their time to the project, the price is free according to their means. The indicative fee, based on what is charged by national chapters, varies between 12 euros for France and 50 Swiss francs for Switzerland. Natacha LSP (talk) 18:19, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Natacha LSP thank you for info I will try to remain active in voluntary actions from time to time, but would not be joining AGM as I can not really follow French and it would not be fair that I vote. -- Zblace (talk) 18:25, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you @Zblace for your answer ǃ Warm regards, Natacha LSP (talk) Natacha LSP (talk) 16:26, 17 January 2024 (UTC)

Sunday June 23 Strategic Wikimedia Affiliates Network meeting (WMF BoT statement on Movement Charter ratification)
editHello everyone!
The Strategic Wikimedia Affiliates Network (SWAN) is a developing forum for all Wikimedia movement affiliates to share ideas about current developments in the Wikimedia Movement. It expands on the model of the All-Affiliates Brand Meeting to help lay some of the groundwork for further Wikimedia 2030 strategy process work.
At this meeting we will focus on the recent statement by the WMF Board of Trustees liaisons statement on the Movement Charter in which the liaisons stated that they will be recommending the Board of Trustees not to ratify the final draft of the Movement Charter. The community and affiliate votes on the ratification are supposed to start on Tuesday, 25 June. This meeting offers a venue to discuss the situation and formulate the "next steps".
This month, we are meeting on Sunday, June 23, and you are all invited to RSVP here.
