Changed usage for {{closed}}

edit

Hello Cbrown1023. At some point you used {{closed}} with the "text" parameter (ie, {{closed|text=Rogue deletion omg. ~~~~}}). This will no longer work correctly in the future, because the "text" parameter will contain the entire discussion (to wrap it in a coloured box). Instead, please use {{closed|Summary}} or {{closed|1=Summary}} (for complex summaries). Thanks. —{admin} Pathoschild 00:11:56, 05 February 2008 (UTC)

My first attempt at translating Donate

edit

I started by transalting the parts not already translated at Översättningar/Donate. But as I can not have a look at the live result I do not know if the translation is ready or not. I also need to review in detail the parts that had been translated already, which also for me is needed to do on a live version.

I then tried to get the preliminary translated pages to the right places on wikiedmia and meta and to update the Donate status page on meta and came to a complete loss. Please correct my mkistakes and guide me on how it shold be done. Anders Wennersten 08:26, 25 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

For the live version on the Wikimedia website, you needed to remove the <pre> and </pre> tags first. (Check them now: wmf:Donate/sv, wmf:Donate-options/sv, and wmf:Donate-thanks/sv.) You should also make sure you link back to the source whenever possible to preserve the GFDL and show who translated the text, for example putting "from m:Översättningar/Donate" in the edit summary.
As for the status template, it seems you updated it correctly. Regarding its placement, it normally goes at the top of the translated pages. However, Donate is a weird translation request, an example of a normal/correctly formatted one would be something like Translation requests/WMF/Board of Trustees/fr.
I hope this helps. Cbrown1023 talk 20:31, 25 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
I have now completed the translation at Översättningar/Donate whith the help from of the "live" versions of hte preliminary translations. I woukld appreciate if you can help me with tranferring these versions in the right way to the right place and also update the status template. I must admit the technicalities for handling these translations are above my technical competence level, so I am glad you can help with the handling issues. edit

Hi!!

It looks like you're online and active, and I thought maybe you'd want to create an article for a movie that I'm watching that isn't in Wikipedia:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0406706/

Here's a mention in the New York Times

http://movies.nytimes.com/movie/307414/Devour/overview

If you're not into creating, could you please pass this along to someone it is? This is a weird but creepily cool movie.

Thanks!!  :-)

I think I own this movie, but never ended up watching it... or maybe I did but wasn't watching it completely. :P (It definitely looks cool.) We actually do have an article on that movie though, see Wikipedia:Devour. Feel free to expand it and add more information! Cbrown1023 talk 19:53, 7 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hmm, we should probably also change the |selected_currency= to "HKD" (Hong Kong Dollar) because if I remember correctly, that's one of the places where "yue" is most spoken. Re: Donate

edit

Is there any way to get rid of the Gill Sans MT font used on WMF:Donate/vi? The font doesn't support many accented Vietnamese characters, and although most browsers can substitute in glyphs from other fonts just fine, Internet Explorer can't, so a lot of Vietnamese visitors won't be able to read Jimbo's quote, for example. – Minh Nguyễn (talk, contribs) 21:05, 8 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm sure, which font would you prefer? Also, we need "Projects of the Wikimedia Foundation" for wmf:Template:OurProjects-vi (used on wmf:Donate-thanks/vi). Cbrown1023 talk 21:08, 8 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
I guess it's best to make it match the rest of the page, which is specified as Verdana, Arial, sans-serif. (See the related Bug 12673 for server error messages.)
Working on this. Cbrown1023 talk 01:08, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
I think Az and I did it.. check them out, wmf:Donate/vi, wmf:Donate-options/vi, and wmf:Donate-thanks/vi. (We used "Helvetica, sans-serif" like on the bug report you linked.) Cbrown1023 talk 01:23, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
"Projects of the Wikimedia Foundation" is Các dự án trực thuộc Quỹ Wikimedia. Also, would you mind changing the Wiktionary logo on this template to Image:Wiktsister en.png? I'm User:Dustihowe, and I also edit on the English Wikipedia. I noticed that Wikimedia doesn't seem to be that busy, and I'm not sure as to how many Admin's are here on Wikimedia. Are you looking for more? Dusti 01:54, 13 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Dutch translations at Foundation wiki

edit

hi Cbrown, can you please update wmf:Onze projecten, because I did a complete update at Translation requests/WMF/Over Wikimedia. And also please revert this move. This is certainly a typo, since the plural of "project" is "projecten" in Dutch. Thanks, SPQRobin (inc!) 13:16, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

"Over Wikimedia" is actually the wmf:Over Wikimedia page, so I'll update that page and not wmf:Onze projecten. :P I have reverted the page move like you said. Cbrown1023 talk 15:55, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Mailing list

edit

Hi, I am wondering who is in-charged of [Wikispecies-l] mailing list. People have used it to spam (e.g. [10][11]). According to Mailing list#Other, I should contact the admin using the email wikispecies-l-owner lists.wikimedia.org but I don't think that will help, since these spams started since May 2007.

I'm a bureaucrat at Wikispecies. If possible, could you assign me as the admin for that mailing list so that I can moderate it? Thanks, OhanaUnitedTalk page 15:49, 18 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

You should really try to contact the list admin, found at the bottom of here. If that person is inactive, your best bet would be to talk to Cary Bass or Brion Vibber who have the ability to configure mailing lists. Majorly talk 16:05, 18 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Majorly is precisely right. :-) You should contact Cary or Brion so they can set you as moderator (you can later set others), but be aware that they are in Egypt now so they might not respond straight-away. I've been on that list for a while now and you're right, I haven't seen anything but spam and the owner is very inactive. :-( Cbrown1023 talk 18:02, 18 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Both Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese are done. Btw, you should add Frank Schulenburg's picture onto English page OhanaUnitedTalk page 21:24, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

It doesn't fit the formatting, and it's not high-res either. So I'd rather not add that specific picture. :-) Cbrown1023 talk 21:25, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Also, Ohana, you missed the latest updates that I pointed out on your talk page. Cbrown1023 talk 23:27, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Of course I missed it. That's because you didn't make that update until I finish translating. Anyways, those 2 pages have been updated but if you continue treating volunteers like this then I strongly suggest you to take some leadership courses. OhanaUnitedTalk page 00:44, 2 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
I was referring to Rebecca and Tomasz, you confused me because you switched columns on me and I was about to run out the door. Sorry about that, and please be polite. I always make it a point to be polite to you (and everyone I work with), please don't take it as a personal insult — it was merely an accidental oversight. Also, it's rather annoying as a coordinator when I have the source being updated by numerous people (notably Erik :P) without discussion and then the translators keep updating it when the request is closed. Then, I can't even talk to them and tell them that the request is closed because then they will feel like they are unwanted. Cbrown1023 talk 01:05, 2 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Misuse of Venetian language - please correct!

edit

Hi, some days ago I translated Donate/vec, then I asked for it to be published. Now I see that it was published, yes, but a couple of smart guys like User:Massimiliano Lincetto and User:Nick1915 introduced a LOT of errors in the text! The biggest of these errors is the use of the digram "zs", that was NEVER used by any Venetian author, in the past or in the present time. Try reading Goldoni or any other author on the Venetian Wikisource. ZS is simply a modern invention of some years ago, that nearly no one in Veneto uses, neither linguists, nor writers, in a few words used by no one except these few guys that pretend to simply ignore 700 years of written tradition. I've corrected the page, please upload it. If you want someone else to confirm what I'm saying, you can write on [12]. In the meantime, can you hide that page? vec.wiki already has a bad reputation due to the "zs thing"... Thanks. Candalua 12:48, 9 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • What does it mean "2 translators to 1"??? Try asking someone else, at least!
Massimilian and Nick are native speakers and have a lot of experience in translating.
So what? I'm a native speaker too. Are they linguists? Are they professors? I don't think so, yet they assume to know more than the scholars that contributed to the GVU manual (all well-known professors and writers, look for Manlio Cortellazzo on google and you will find a lot of important publications, while this Michele Brunelli who invented ZS is a young guy with little academic background). Candalua 15:58, 9 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • What sources do they have???? can I have a look at them, please?
No, it's what Arria and I found on w:Venetian language: Dizsionario: Dictionary of Venetian language and its varieties which has zs in the name.
Oh, so the "Dizsionario" is the Bible, isn't it? Well, it was written by the same guy (Michele Brunelli) who invented this absurd ZS, so it's no surprise that his dictionary agrees with his theories, don't you think? Instead, try visiting [13] or [14], two publications in Venetian language. For a good online dictionary, visit [15], and you will find that there is no ZS. Candalua 15:58, 9 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • Before taking decisions, please see my sources, for example: [16]. It's a writing system that does NOT contain zs, proposed by a group of linguists and writers, and edited by the Regional Council of Veneto ("a cura della Giunta regionale del Veneto", as you can read on the first page). Can the other 2 translators provide a more valuable source? I don't think so.
Candalua 14:58, 9 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Modern languages change quite a bit, you can't assume that they won't. The article you linked is from 1995, over 10 years ago. Nick says it's an old dispute, let's not let it cross over to here. Cbrown1023 talk 15:24, 9 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
This is nonsense. Are you saying that in only 13 years our language changed so fast that suddenly all the people use this new system? (Please note that Venetian is not taught in school, except for poems, traditional songs etc. that are currently taught using the traditional writing system.) Languages change, ok, but it takes much longer. And anyway, the Regional Council did not approve any "change" in the writing system after 1995, as far as I know, and you didn't provide anything to prove your theory that the language is "changing". So, this is not about "languages change". This is about "a few people pretend that our beautiful language has to change". Candalua 15:58, 9 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Minor edits to Donate/mt & Home/mt

I have made some minor edits to these pages. This was because there was a "small" change in the Maltese grammar by the Council of Maltese. Can you please update them. Translating into Spanish

edit

Hello Casey, Thanks for the response. Per your suggestion, I went to the home page. Then I click the "Español" link and it takes me to http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Portada. I see that the content under "Últimas noticias" is in English, so I thought I could translate that. However, I cannot figure out how to do it. I tried following your link to http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Translation_requests/WMF/Home/es then clicking on the "edit" tab at the top. However, when in edit mode, I do not see any of the English content. Thanks, Burt

Hey Burt. The news items are setup a little differently. ;-) To translate them, visit Translation requests/WMF/News-es. If you need help (wiki syntax can be confusing), feel free to leave a message here or poke me on Yahoo! Chat. Cbrown1023 talk 19:48, 16 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Translations into Romanian

Since our last messages I continued to translate various pages. Besides the m:Translation requests/WMF/Home/ro (including the attached News pages) I translated Translation requests/WMF/Staff and am working on Translation requests/WMF/Board of Trustees which are listed as requests with priority.

I am not sure what else is needed. Some of the translation requests are old and others might even not be useful (for instance the file regarding chapters would be required only if a certain community wants to create a local chapter. Just let me know if you want me to continue and how.

Your reversion

edit

I have seen the image's description page. It does not explain why it is relevant on the Tell us about your Wikipedia page. It's just two people. A caption isn't even given on the page explaining as to why the image is there. Perhaps you could clarify? —Anonymous DissidentTalk 22:26, 25 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well, you were incorrect... it's not "completely irrelevant". I can't see how an image of Wikipedians is not acceptable for a page about Wikipedians giving feedback. In response to "a caption isn't even given", maybe you should add to the content by adding a caption instead of deleting items? However, if you can find a better illustration, feel free to replace it. Cbrown1023 talk 01:51, 26 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
I highlighted the lack of caption as part of my argument; I assert that there is no acceptable caption in the context of that page. The two people are Wikimedians, yes, but they are ostensibly just two people in a library on a page entitled "tell us about your Wikipedia". It is my opinion that such an image is not related to the topic, and should not be there. I don't plan to engage in a conflict over the image, and don't care if it remains, but I really think that it is superfluous on the page. —Anonymous DissidentTalk 06:10, 26 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Allow me to butt in into the conversation. Apparently, I found that in ALL Job opening description pages, under "About WMF", they forgot Wikispecies (yes, they forgot it again...) OhanaUnitedTalk page 04:14, 19 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
They didn't forget it. For example, we don't include Wikiversity, Meta-Wiki, or Incubator either (or the MediaWiki software). Only the most widely trafficked/largest are on there. If not, the page would get too big (it says "including", so one wouldn't assume it's a full list). A full list can be found on Our projects, which is linked from the sidebar and many other pages. Az1568 (talk) 04:41, 19 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Still, there's a big difference between Wikipedia Main Page's sister project and Meta's sister project. Lately I am pissed about this bug OhanaUnitedTalk page 03:58, 20 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Oh crap, did I just hear that Brion Vibber hired 2 new developers? (growl) OhanaUnitedTalk page 13:38, 20 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Brion didn't, the Foundation did. :P See [17] for more info. Cbrown1023 talk 19:42, 20 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
So do I need to translate again? OhanaUnitedTalk page 02:44, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Oh, it's no problem at all. It's not that there was anything wrong with the translation. ;-) We just make sure that we have the translations reviewed by at least one other person before we publish them. Fundraising translation

edit

As you have requested me so at Thai Wikipedia, I am translating it. :-) However, I am a bit confused:

Thank you for working on the translation! Sorry it's confusing. :-(
  • In English version, why does the text "project" highlighted in yellow? What is that mean? How does that effect the translation work in Thai?
The word "project" was added to the English version after translations were started, it was just a note to translators who already started that the word was added. You can remove the highlighting in the Thai version.
  • In English version, number 61-69, 74-79, 83-89 and 103-109 are missing. What are them? Why they are not on the page?
They don't exist, they just skipped some numbers when creating the source.
  • In English version, number 92, it says "check and stock". Is Wikimedia Foundation in a stock exchange? If so, it is not a non-profit organisation, is it? Also, I assume you meant "cheque"... so cheque or what?
Stock: Sometimes people donate stock to the Foundation. For example, someone might buy some Google stock for the Foundation to give as a donation.
Check: Yeah, check and cheque are synonyms. (Check is more common American English.)
  • In English version, it mentions the chapters which the donor may contact. However, there is not any in Thailand yet. Shall I slightly add some notes a bit or skip that number?
You can still translate it. It will list one of the existing chapters of the Wikimedia Foundation who agreed to special contract for this fundraiser.

Thank you for answering my questions. I hope to translate more in the future for benefit of Thai language. (even I am now not finished yet!) --Passawuth 12:54, 28 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

:-) Does all that make sense? Thanks again for translating, Passawuth! Cbrown1023 talk 21:58, 28 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thank you :-) However, the "default money" one what do I have to do? When converting to Thai money, it has something like "cents" at the back. Also, can I change the amount of the money? The whole number Baht without decimals cannot be as same as those in dollars. (Do you get what I say?) --Passawuth 13:42, 1 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Also, please forgive me, stock like:
  • supply of goods
  • the value of the shares in a company that have been sold
  • the share that somebody has bought in a company
Which one? I'm bad at economy... :-( --Passawuth 13:45, 1 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I think stock most closely means "the share that somebody has bought in a company" in this case. For the "default amounts", it does not need to be an exact conversion. Just do whatever makes sense (or has the same value roughly) for Thailand. Cbrown1023 talk 14:14, 1 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

With the help of other Thai users, finished! However, I am a bit confused. The amount of money in this page is still in USD, but on the translation page I wrote Thai Bath. Also, [19], [20] and [21] are not yet translated. Where can I translate those pages? Thank you. --Passawuth 14:02, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

We'll work on translating the other pages later (they aren't as important as the ones you've already translated), we'll start that translation process this weekend (I hope). About the currency, I don't think PayPal accepts that currency. If it does, tell me, and I'll update it. Cbrown1023 talk 21:27, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Some phrases added to the end of the page, should I translate it? I guess no. Vinhtantran 03:30, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

The ones at the end of the page should be adjusted depending upon what Vietnamese uses. For example, since Vietnamese uses the đồng, you would change $ to VND/₫. If they use different “quotes” than English uses, you'd change that as well. Cbrown1023 talk 12:02, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Minor problem in Chinese translation again

edit

First of all, thanks for your effort of sovling the problem I mentioned last time. However, I still have one more question. In the translation page, "Wikipedia" is translated to "維基百科", and this is the name which Chinese would use. However in the banner, most of them remains "Wikipedia" instead of "維基百科". Is it deliberately not translate the word "Wikipedia" for all languages, even including non-latin lanaguages?

That's because we are using Meta ({{SITENAME}}) for the sitenotices, so that they will not say "Wikipedia" when we enable it for the sister projects. Cbrown1023 talk 15:30, 8 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Also, both "Wikipedia" and "維基百科" appear at the same time in sentence 4: "當您需要維基百科的時候,Wikipedia總在您身邊。——現在維基百科需要您的幫助!". As that version makes the word "Wikipedia" appearing 3 times, I have suggested another version: "當您需要維基百科的時候,它總在您身邊。——現在它需要您的幫助!". Please replace 維基百科 with Wikipedia when necessary. Thank you! -- Kevinhksouth 13:53, 8 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fundraising 2008/core messages/uk

edit

Hello. Could you, please, help to fix a problem in translation into Ukrainian. Now it says «Підтримайте Вікіпедія — неприбутковий проект.» However, we have cases in Ukrainian language, so according to grammar rules it should be «Підтримайте Вікіпедію — неприбутковий проект.», as written in message #6. By the way, it's necessary to update Ukrainian version according to changes marked in blue. Thanks — NickK 16:08, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

The notice gets "Вікіпедія" from {{SITENAME}}. In order for it to work on the sister projects, I need to know what it will be for each of those names:
  • Вікіпедія = Вікіпедію
  • Вікісловник =
  • Вікіпідручник =
  • ВікіНовини =
  • ВікіЦитати =
  • Вікіджерела =
Thanks! Cbrown1023 talk 16:17, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
You can use {{grammar:accusative|{{SITENAME}}}} instead. There is difference only for Вікіпедія/Wikipedia, for all the other projects it's the same. Thanks — NickK 16:25, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Done, it takes 5-15 minutes to update. I don't think it worked, though. If it doesn't, send me a message here and I'll try another solution. Cbrown1023 talk 17:02, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
But grammar:accusative is defined only for Вікіпедія, Вікісловник, Вікіпідручник, ВікіНовини. For other projects Ukrainian names are not defined yet.--Ahonc 18:00, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I will do:
{{#switch:{{lc:{{SITENAME}}}}
|вікіпедія = Вікіпедію
|wikiquote = ВікіЦитати
|wikisource = Вікіджерела
|#default = {{SITENAME}}
}}
Does that sound okay? Wiktionary, Wikinews, and Wikibooks do not change and the sites have "SITENAME" configured. Wikiquote and Wikisource do not change either, but they do not have the sitename configured. Cbrown1023 talk 19:13, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Okay I did that, let's see if it works well. Cbrown1023 talk 19:29, 9 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Misspelling in Thai translation

Hello, I was wondering if you can help changing the Thai translation #2. Currently it shows as

Estonian translations of Fundraising 2008 core messages

Hello! I hope this is the right place to post this. The community of Estonian Wikipedia would like to see the (text of the) banner a little smaller (it is believed to be too intrusive). If this is not possible, then it doesn't matter. Secondly, the desired text of the button is Anneta (=donate). Maybe you just haven't had time to correct it. And finally, is it possible to change the red color of the button to something else (like gray)? --Jaan513 15:45, 11 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Thank you for the translation implementation. It turns to be one small mistake. The original count of chapters in line 123 was 19, but if there are already 21 of them, then it is not correct to use “зь 21”. The right variant is “з 21”. Could you please fix it? By the way, it is possible to use just “з” with any number, even 19 (“зь 19” is just more preferable), so it will be ok to change 21 to any other number in future if any. Header Norwegian bokmål

edit

Perhaps easier to communicate directly with you here instead on Jon Haralds page (and in English instead of Norwegian ;o). Core messages/nb is already up to date, but #22 that reads "velgjørere" for "benefactors" has not been copied/implemented in the heading as it shows on pages like http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Donate/Now/nb. Same goes for #27 "gjennomsiktighet" for transparancy".

Sorry about the confusion here, but when I first posted to JHS I did not realise that these headers already excisted at core messages/nb. Regards, Finn Rindahl 09:21, 25 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Updated #22, #26 and #27. --Az1568 (talk) 11:11, 25 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. It does not seem to be working though - the only page where the changes are displayed are http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Special:ContributionHistory/nb , the others http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Donate/Now/nb etc still show the old version. Might be some cache thingy. Finn Rindahl 11:52, 25 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Still not updated on other pages, so I doubt it's a cache issue. Has the template been subst'ed in a previous version? Finn Rindahl 18:38, 25 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hmm.. it displays fine for me. Maybe you need to purge/clear your browsers cache first? --Az1568 (talk) 19:14, 25 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I've been purging since 11:11 ;o). http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Donate/Now/nb & http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Special:ContributionHistory/nb does not show the same heading for me. Finn Rindahl 19:20, 25 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure what it would be then. All I can suggest is that you either keep trying, and hopefully it'll fix itself, or try viewing the page another browser. :( --Az1568 (talk) 19:32, 25 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
No problem, as long as it renders as it's supposed to for everyone else I'm happy ;o) Finn Rindahl 19:40, 25 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Validation-error text

edit

It seems that the parameter 'validation-error' (you must enter a valid amount) has not been added to the various donate/now/xx pages - do we have translations for that somewhere or do we need to set up another translation request? Finn Rindahl 16:43, 28 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

We have it, see Fundraising 2008/core messages/missing. Cbrown1023 talk 17:22, 28 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Really?!? what number is that? We just got #11 "You must contribute at least..." which is 'validation-error-minimum' but I can't see texts for 'validation-error' Regards, Finn Rindahl 17:32, 28 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
*slaps self* Sorry, I haven't been thinking straight lately. ;-) No, we don't have a request for that yet... maybe a #12? Cbrown1023 talk 17:35, 28 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
OK ;) Just wanted to check before adding any more of those ready #11s, if it was possible to add both those parameters at the same time it would save a few clicks. But I'll get on with the rest of them now, could you add a new translation request then? Finn Rindahl 18:02, 28 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I poked Naoko about that. She'll ask around and see if we'll need another request for that string. --Az1568 (talk) 15:01, 1 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
But we'll probably end up waiting until we get the next round of sitenotices to request it, so that the updates are clustered together. Cbrown1023 talk 18:53, 1 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Have we not got something like this from previous years? - I mean "you must enter a valid amount" isn't excactly poetry...Finn Rindahl 19:16, 1 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Notification that identification is required is now translated to Spanish

edit

Hello,

I've translatedin a subpage of mine (from -en to -es) the template used to require the identification. Now, I wonder if it needs proofreading or I can move it to the correct place. Thank you. Dferg (T-ES) 16:51, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

It wouldn't hurt to ask someone on IRC to look over the translation. However, you can move it to the proper place whenever you want. :-) Cbrown1023 talk 01:00, 18 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Done - I've moved it to the correct page (I've asked permission on IRC) Best regards Dferg (T-ES) 17:11, 18 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fundraising 2008/core messages/uk

I am writing again as Ukrainian wiktionary users have found a grammar mistake in the following Fundraising messages.

Message #4 (Вікіпедія завжди тут, коли Ви потребуєте її — тепер вона потребує Вашої підтримки.) must be for the sister projects:

And message #3 (Вікіпедія сподівається на Ваш благодійний внесок: будь ласка, зробіть його сьогодні.) must be for the sister projects:

Fundraising/yi

edit

I don't see the purpose of your repeated reversion of the status of the Yiddish translation. Unless you are proposing to finish the translation yourself, it is not going to get finished.

Currently all the banners appear in English. In what way is that better than having the most common ones appear in the local language?

Unless there is a possibility of further translations taking place, the most sensible option is to publish the existing translations.

--Redaktor 21:58, 21 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

The translation wasn't "done" as the status you put suggested. Perhaps if you had used an edit summary (you used none) saying something like "the translation will not be finished, just publish the sitenotices", we would all know what you were talking about. We can't read your mind. :-) However, it's sad that all of the existing work has gone to waste since you won't finish the translation. Cbrown1023 talk 23:53, 21 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
1 Apologies for not using the edit summaries.
2 Thank you for having the translations published. If any untranslated messages become visible I may translate them. But it is very time-consuming, and there are other things to do!
--Redaktor 19:07, 22 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
You're so close to having the whole thing completely done. :-) When you have time, all that's needed is: 71, 73, 92, 94, 96a, 97, 99, 100, 101, 111, 113, 114, 115, 116, 117, 118, 119, 120. Then you're done. :D Cbrown1023 talk 21:07, 22 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

he.wiki Personal Appeal translation

edit

Hi, Jimmy's appeal sitenotice in the he.wiki has a problem: the comma "," should be in the end of the second row, not at the begining of the first. Currenty:

אנא קיראו:
פנייה אישית מג'ימי ויילס
, מייסד ויקיפדיה

should be:

אנא קיראו:
פנייה אישית
מג'ימי ויילס, מייסד ויקיפדיה

Also, the "Collapse" is not translated. Shoud be

הסתר

and "Expand" should be

Quality Wiki

edit

What does it do? And someone (probably you) registered today as CBrown, might be a good idea to verify if that's you. OhanaUnitedTalk page 03:42, 27 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, that was me who registered. :-) (It was just so that I had that variation saved as a global username.) Quality Wiki was a site created to showcase the initiative by the Foundation to boost quality on the sites. I think it was intended to be used as a workplace for discussion, but things have gone sorta stale since then. The only content is what you can see on the Portal pages. The only real success from that initiative (I think) was FlaggedRevs which is installed on a few wikis. Cbrown1023 talk 03:34, 28 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Cbrown! On the Thai donation page, the Thai WP logo has projected out of the blue frame. It is because of the size of the logo - but can you resize it please? I'm not the uploader of the logo.
